In this video I look at and break down another one of Stanley's new Sweetheart tools and let you know exactly what I think about the No 60 1/2 block plane. If you have this plane please let me know what you think in the comments! Below are the links to all of the block planes I mention in the video.

9:45 as someone who uses planes often, I can tell you why the iron and lateral adjuster aren't machined closer in size to each other. It is because it is allowing for human error when adjusting the depth. Those particular planes where the depth adjustment and lateral adjustment are performed on the same knob/arm, you can very quickly set your lateral angle askew very quickly and accidently when you are trying to simply adjust the depth. That extra slop in the contact alleviates that from happening accidently. You have to actually continue to move the lateral adjustment in order to change angle.

Nice review sir! It is amazing to me that you have used this on 4 projects and not had to resharpen the blade. That is a testament to that line of steel. This is a nice looking tool that seems well priced. Nice job!!

12 Again Sports & Outdoors your spoons were one of the projects! I really hope they make more tools in the lineup. One day I will do a block plane shootout with all of the ones I have just to show everyone what’s out there and to help make a better decision in what will be best for them.

This looks like a good value. I have not used any of the newer planes so I have no experience with the set screw, it looks like a cheap fist and that should help to keep this block plane at a good price. I know I see some using the steeper grade planes, I am not sure what the benefit is but do know the lower grade ones are easier to push. This one used from Mexico is better then a new one from China!

Poorman's Stack the lower the blade the better for end grain and the higher the blade the better for figured wood such as curly maple. Also sometimes a certain piece of wood just might not like the low angle so it’s always nice to have some variety. With the bevel up style plane like this one and the low angle jack planes you can actually control the angle of the cut simply by grinding the bevel of the blade to a different degree. That’s what makes them so versatile. Instead of having a plane for every degree you might need, all you have to have is multiple blades and just swap them out.

I purchased one of these and tossed it in the bin after about 4 uses. I had no issues with the lever cap. My issues was the pin that locks the cap into position pulled out of it's thread and stripped the thread in the process.

@@matthewvick4930 Yea I've got the Luban 101 &102 ,Luban 066 , record no 311 ,Stanley no 90 x2 and also the Clifton low angle block which is the only low angle plane they make , love my little luban 101 tho in bronze ideal for just in the apron taking edges off , also got a soft spot for my record 311 as its an ex military so bit of history to it . I really need to stop buying tools but guess its better than spending money 💰 on other crap ,your channel is doing well buddy 👌

williamn01 I’ve never heard of the Luban brand but they look beautiful! The Clifton is such a stunning looking plane I will have to have one one day. I love planes with a story and I think that’s going to be the next route I go with the channel is adding a “hand tool history” side to it. There are so many unique tools out there and there’s not much out there about them so hopefully I can tell the plane’s story with it sitting right there.

No review of the shop fox but from what I have read the Stanley has a better blade. I do love the look of the shop fox though.

They are both nice plane's, but the only thing that spoils them is the aluminium level cap. It's cheap and nasty . Thank you for your video .

This plane is now no longer made,i have one and is very good for the job it is made for,but the little brass knob is way too weak and it broke very quickly,and the complaints dept for stanley is full of people who have broken the little screw and Stanley cannot replace the part.I managed to find a replacement screw which had the same thread ,and it now works well,and ii is easy to keep very sharp
@matthewvick4930
@matthewvick4930 5 месяцев назад
As far as I can tell the plane is still made. (My friend picked one up at woodcraft a few weeks ago). But you hit the nail on the head as far as the complaints go. It’s a bit ridiculous
