He will get there eventually. Hopefully he is still alive when the time does come. Just like Ken Riley finally made it this year and should have been in before he died.
Since it didn't get mentioned in "Best of the Rest," someone should comment. What NaVarro Bowman did in the 2013 NFC Championship with under 9 minutes left was the manliest play I've ever seen on a football field. Meeting Jermaine Kearse at the goaline, he ripped and tore the ball from the WR's possesion. "I am going to take this from you! Regardless of the cost! Because my team needs it." His leg was bent back & pinned underneath him. He was never the same player again, and he was a hell of a player. It cost him his career. It may not be an indelible image, in fact it was quite gruesome, but if Dwight Clark gets on this list for one play, Bowman at least deserves to be mentioned. Oh ya, he held onto the ball too, despite being in pain many of us will never know.
2:59 Frank Gore. 6:51 The Elephant, Charles Haley. 10:31 Dwight Clark. 15:12 Roger Craig. 18:49 Patrick Willis. 23:11 Steve Young. 26:27 The Million Dollar Backfield! 30:45 Ronnie Lott. 35:57 Jerry Rice. 40:39 Joe Montana.
@@Blove4592I can't respect Brady. Ruined the integrity of the game. Not only was he allowed to get away with it time and time again he was rewarded for it. It's the reason why Brady wasn't any good in college and sat on the bench for Brian Griese of all people yet dominated in the NFL from game 1
Hector Rodriguez the '81 niners made the top 10 list for turnarounds. BTW the '99 colts hold the title of the greatest turnaround in NFL history going from 3-13 in '98 to 13-3
@@AndrewWarrenPatriotsfanExactly. I never understood why they put Tom Landry at #1 for the Cowboys, but then they don't rank Bill Walsh for the 49ers or Vince Lombardi for the Packers. It makes no sense.
@@jordan12118 You mean in your opinion he's definitely better than Ronnie Lott that's dam sho not mines, And I'm pretty sure a lot more people feel the same way.
Nah, Brady is the Goat of QB's now. 9 SB appearances to 4. 6 championships to 4. Brady has a higher winning percentage than Montana. The only statistic in Montanas career that is greater than Bradys is SB average Passer Rating. Brady has more SB MVPs, league MVPs. Brady needs to average just 9 wins over the next 2 seasons to double Montana in total wins. Bradys needs just 5429 yards to double Montana in total passing yards. Which Brady will likely do.
If you still think Montana is better than Brady, you're just wrong. Objectively wrong. More yards, more tds, more MVPs, less int, higher passer rating, more wins, more playoff wins, more super bowl MVPs and most importantly more Super Bowl wins than any player in NFL history
one of my problems with lists like these is they seem to favor players who've played most recently are most vivid in everyone's memory. Older players who are in the hall of fame like Jimmy Johnson, Dave Wilcox, Leo Nomellini, Y A Tittle, plus great players like John Brodie and Charlie Krueger, played so long ago that no one remembers them. I'm 60, and growing up i remember my dad talking about them and how great they were. But no body really remembers them today which is sad. But i guess this is true with every team in the NFL.
Fun fact Patrick Willis is fucking shredded. My goodness he is jacked. And he was so fast as well. Incredible in pass coverage both zone and manning up. Also the intangibles were there, a leader of men, always was in a spot to make a play on the ball, and more importantly he finished plays as well as anyone. An all time physique who could cover the pass, could THUMP anyone running in the middle (my god he could lay the wood), had the speed to shut down the running game sideline to sideline, and a beloved teammate and leader while carrying himself like a true role model off the fan. P.S. Look at how JACKED he was. With that speed he just put people on their ass, after authority. What a great MLB
I'm glad they chose Joe at #1 over Jerry ...considering Joe was the reason they had a dynasty in the first place, and already won TWO SB's before Rice even was drafted ...
Dont worry, it's pretty much guaranteed that Frank Gore is a complete idiot's guide future first-ballot HOF in regards to his long, successful, enduring career. I know he's been gone from the Bay Area for several years and had a few good seasons with the Colts, but most NFL fans in general and 49ers fans specifically will identify him most as a Niner. I'm a Saints fan but even I recognize his best, most productive seasons were in San Francisco. Rickey Watters was a great RB with 49ers and with Eagles but he came across as egocentric, egotistical, pestering wannabe Muhammad Ali-gimmicks he did, except a lot of people didn't find it really funny. He got away with it for most part as a Niner, but in Philly they viewed him as an obnoxious, me-first punk who cared more about his stats then making a key first down when his team was driving late in the 4th quarter and he doesnt go all out and catch it. I think that incident I'm referencing happened in Philly vs. Tampa in a 1995 home game. Eagles fans respect you if you're a tough, hard-nosed player and you give maximum effort and leave the showboating pyrotechnics to a minimum. If you can back it up, you're allowed to be a bit brash, maybe cocky but dont make a habit out of it like TO or Freddie Mitchell did. If Roger Craig had put up maybe 1-2, perhaps 3 more 1,000 rushing seasons, he might been in the HOF. He's a light borderline HOF which sort of like Wes Welker I suppose, two great NFL players who had close to 10-year long careers with excellent stats but the final career statistics reveal if they had 1-2 very good seasons, they'd be likely HOFs but it never happened. Bob Baumhower, great Miami Dolphins DE and NT who played from 1977-86 and got voted to 5 Pro Bowls and played (and lost) in SBs XVII and XIX. If he had won just one of those SBs(perhaps SB XVII) he might've gotten in. Irving Fryar and Stanley Morgan of the late 70s/1980s Patriots teams also fall in that same category, too.
Jerry Rice is 1. If he played today he'd beat himself in statistics. The man did it for 20 years, came back in 12 weeks from a torn ACL and could probably suit up when he's 70 and play. He's the ultimate
It's funny that Damon Amendolara asks that we wait until Patrick Willis' career is at least half over before we put him on the list..Patrick Willis only played one more season after this episode aired.
Can someone explain why there is a handle on Y.A Titles football helmet? I know the fiberglass shield was a transition to face guards but in a time when anything goes I'm sure defenders would have loved to have had help grabbing a qb.
"We didn't have any short routes. We didn't have any West Coast, long handoffs. I'd rather take a stick in the eye than watch Bill Walsh's offense." - Jerry Glanville
Been a die hard 49er fan since the early 90's, so unfortunately I just missed seeing Joe Cool live, but caught Steve Young's prime as a kid. This is how my personal list would go: 1. Montana 2. Rice 3. Lott 4. Young 5. Willis 6. Craig 7. Clark 8. Haley 9. Gore 10. Kittle (I know it's early, but he's already on his way to being one of the greatest TEs of all time, definitely one of the most complete in history. I'll be biased with this last one and put #85 here)
I first saw the 49ers in Super Bowl 19. Being in Australia we didn't get any of the regular season NFL games at the time being pre-what you'd call cable TV so the first time I saw Joe in the Super Bowl I was hooked. I'm jealous you at least get to see the 49ers live.
@@trishave5639 I was still pretty young though. A lot of the games I remember most were in my teen years with Jeff Garcia and Owens, and then late high school early college we were horrible. It wasn't until 2011 that we really got good again there for a few years in my 20's. Now in my mid 30's and I can honestly say this could be something really special here for a long while if Lance ends up being as good as I hope he'll be. We'll see.. but we're in the mix again amongst the best in the league, and that's fun to see
My FAVORITE all time Niners team QB Steve Young '94 RB Garrison Hearst '98 FB William Floyd '94 WR Jerry Rice '89 WR John Taylor '88 WR Terrell Owens '98 TE George Kittle '22 OL Harris Barton, Jesse Sapolo, Trent Williams DE Nick Bosa '22 DT Bryant Young '96 DT Dana Stubblefield '95 DE Chris Doleman '98 OLB Charles Haley '89 MLB Patrick Willis '12 OLB Dre Greenlaw '22 CB Deion Sanders '94 CB Eric Davis '94 FS Merton Hanks '94 SS Ronnie Lott '88
I think Roger Craig should have been higher on the list at #5. He was the first running back to get 1,000 rushing yards and 1,000 receiving yards in a season, and he was also the workhorse of that great 49ers offense. He was so versatile and fit perfectly into Walsh's offensive scheme. It's tough to decide between Jerry Rice and Joe Montana for the #1 spot. A case can be made for both players to be in that #1 spot. Jerry Rice gave Joe Montana and Steve Young great careers, but the flip side of the coin is that without a QB like Montana, Rice likely does not set those records.
I agree Roger Craig should be number 5 he helped the 49ers win 3 Super Bowl rings and I think he had a bigger impact than Patrick Willis. Patrick Willis was a great linebacker but Roger Craig should be ranked above him.
Without watching... being an 80s kid and Cowboy fan.. 1. Montana 2. Rice 3. S.Young 4. Lott 5. Haley 6. R.Craig 7. Romanowski 8. D. Clark 9. J. Taylor 10. Rathman
Charles Haley spent half of his career in Dallas, he should have been in the Dallas top 10, he got more sacks in Dallas then in San Francisco, so yeah, also he changed how it was in the 90’s beating the 49ers in 2 straight nfc wins, that should also be noted
Haley really brought something to Dallas that was missing. Absolutely transformed that defense. There were plays he was unstoppable. Niners really lost out
The reason St Clair isn't on the list or meantioned because of the era he played in players got away with alot back he as an offensive lineman 6'9 275 there was things that he could do back then that you couldn't do today like block below the waist
I’m disappointed that Bill Walsh & George Seifert are left off the list We all know about Bill Walsh & his impact on the 49ers As a defensive coordinator & coach Seifert had an impact on that 9er defense. As a coach he went to 5 conference championship games (1989,1990,1992,1993,1994) and he won 2 Super Bowls in 1989 & 1994. The only time he missed the playoffs is 1991. Grossly underrated coach.
So the one thing that bugs me about these lists. In the top 10 cowboys they made Tom Landry #1. That's perfect was the entire identity of the cowboys for the first half of their existence. The problem is they established a rule that allows non-players on the list that they don't follow in any of the other Top 10 X-teams players. If they did Bill Walsh would be top 3 on this list, Bill Belichick would be on the Patriots' list, Chuck Knoll would be on the Steelers list, and Al Davis would be #1 on the Raiders' List
Explain to me how Terell Davis from the broncos is in the hall of fame but Rodger craig isn't. When he as more rushing yards, receiving yards and superbowl rings oh and tds
True Roger Craig should be in the Hall, but Terrell Davis was the best running back in the NFL from 1996 until his injury in 1999. As great as Craig was, he was never considered the best.
St Clair was an offensive tackle. John Brodie also should be on the honorable mention list as his number 12 was the first number retired by the Niners.
You can make the case that at least 2 West Coast quarterbacks were better than Montana (Young and Anderson). No wide receivers was better than Rice. And Lott is close to the top at his position.
1. Bill Walsh 2. Joe Montana 3. Jerry Rice 4. Ronnie Lott 5. Jimmy Johnson 6. Steve Young 7. Frank Gore 8. Patrick Willis 9. George Seifert 10. Million Dollar backfield
People actually would take Rice over Montana? Joe wouldnt be as good if he didnt have Rice? WTF? Give me a break. You can be the best WR ever, but if you dont have a QB to get you the ball, it wont matter. Larry Fitzgerald is a prime example. The guy exploded when Warner came to town, when Warner retired Fitz was below average... Then Palmer came into town and guess what? Fitz went back to being really good again... How about Randy Moss? Great years, then everyone thought he was done, gets traded to the Patriots and with a QB like Brady, Moss goes off. QB's get paid the most for a reason. I remember the Steelers had Le'Veon Bell and they were saying he needs to be paid all this money... Then Bell left and he has never reached the same level as when he was with the Steelers and guess what? Steelers doing just fine without him. They have Big Ben...
Yes that is not right for 33 R. Craig not to be in H.O F. He blocked for Mike Rozier and was drafted way after him. Rozier didn't have half the career that Roger did!👍
I’m not sure why but of all the sports dynasties, if the 49ers qualify, in all sports I hate the Niners the least. Other than TO I don’t remember any insufferable jack ass’s playing Meball.
