Can you people complaining about Interstellar not being on the list please shut the fuck up? Yes it was my personal favourite film of the year but it's Jeremy's bloody opinion and he can put on it whatever he wants.

Ross115 I agree. Interstellar is by no means "a lock" in any top 10. A lot of people like myself, did not enjoy Interstellar that much, while a lot of other people absolutely loved it. It's just one of those films. And the thing with any film is that it's subjective and can be interpreted differently by many people.

Edge of Tomorrow 8. TMNT (I know. I know. But I had so much fun with it) 9. Guardians of the Galaxy 10. Non-Stop (What can I say, I love Liam Neeson) I know many people will disagree with interstellar but that movie almost made me feel like it was made for me and I know there are people who don't like it or liked it as much as others but it really worked for me. If you disagree, try to keep it civilized because there are such things as differences of opinion.

The annoying kid, the manly yelling woman, the "Monster" we never even see the face of that they end up feeding worms and keeping as a pet? (real original) The worst part? One thing that edge of tomorrow doesn't get enough credit for are the ties to WW2 and d-day. - Aliens start invasion from germany - main battle in movie takes place on normandy beach (or beach similar in geographic location) - The realease date of the movie is the 70th anniversary of d-day. Need I go on?
@TrkJustin

So? That is not really relevant to the quality of the movie.

@Wired4Life2 9 лет назад
Ethan Reuben I liked Cap 2 okay, but I'm one of those people who sees the Marvel/DC comic book invasion as an inevitable detriment for the movie industry, especially since many of the films are pretty uniform and everyone will try to imitate them. I believe that RU-vid critics, not to mention the more-established critics, are having double standards when they praise every single comic book movie that comes out (even the average ones) and then anguish over the lack of originality and new voices in Hollywood. When Jeremy reviewed Birdman and only gave it (I believe) the Blu-Ray rating, I was disappointed because--even if the film wasn't his taste--he could've spoken on how Birdman utterly blasts straight through the cracks of the comic book movie invasion we have today and will continue to have for the next decade. It's for that truly relevant theme, plus the acting, writing, and look, that Birdman was my favorite film of 2014. If you ask me, the first Iron Man and Guardians are the best Marvel films out there. The Captain America films are next, but they're at the top of a very one-note stew. Not to mention, Captain America and (to pull from DC) Superman are just not interesting characters by themselves because their main trait (old-fashioned values and patriotism and invincibility save for Kryptonite, respectively) leaves little room for flaws that stem from their natural personas. Back to Captain America, it's not enough just to make the movie "a spy thriller with superheroes" because the world-building still takes too much precedence over actual storytelling. Worry about your world AFTER a story has been told. Cap 2 was entertaining, but what Marvel is doing is not good filmmaking at all. What I'm saying is: Less Cap 2 (world-building), more Guardians (storytelling). BTW, I absolutely love that Jeremy's favorite film of 2014 was Whiplash. Great decision. He tends to go too mainstream for the rest of the list, but the top of the list he goes for the true quality. Like last year with Gravity and 12 Years a Slave as the #1 and #2 respectively. Then again, 2011 came and he didn't even review Hugo or The Artist. At least Drive won the YouReviewers Awards.

Okay, I'm going to ask you since I pretty much agree with every other thing on your list, but what is it about Snowpiercer? I watched it, and while it wasn't bad, I don't get why it's getting as much praise as it getting. I just didn't find anything really extraordinary about it. It's smart for a dystopian, especially with how prevalent they are now, but overall I just felt utterly underwhelmed by it.

John King "but overall I just felt utterly underwhelmed by it." And that's okay. Like all art house films, Snowpiercer isn't for everybody. All film is subjective. I actually honestly feel like I'm the only person who loved Boyhood beyond the fact that it took twelve years to make. I mean, yes it was an outstanding feat in cinema history - but just the whole thing was perfect for me. A lot of people said it was boring, or meaningless, but I disagree. I think what I got from it is that life doesn't have a plot. Not everything has to mean something, not everyone you meet will be important to you later in life. Sometimes people come and go, things happen that you end up forgetting a week later, life isn't linear and everything is just what we make of it. It affected me on such an emotional level that I couldn't pinpoint until after it was over. I'm at the age Mason was at the end, which is maybe why it touched me so much. I don't know, but to me that was the second-best film of 2014. (My number one was the hardly mentioned, or even noticed, Comet)
@henry1690
@henry1690 9 лет назад
From the amount that I've seen from it (I've went through about half the film so far), it definitely feels very realistic. The characters are easily relatable, and seeing them actually grow before your very eyes makes a more natural flow to it. It wasn't one of my favorite films or anything, but I do have a lot of respect for it, even without the 12 years aspect.
@trignite
@trignite 9 лет назад
Jim Halpert I thought it was horrible, they aged so quickly that you didn't really get any good character development. It felt like it relied on people having nostalgia from when they were young and how it's depressing to grow old. I also didn't like any of the characters it was really boring I see why the movie needed to be long but they could of done more with that time by focusing more on certain time periods rather then doing time jumps every 5 minutes.

trignite Yeah, I kinda agree For the record though, I wasn't bored but I wanted the movie to be over when I was just halfway in. The whole film felt like one of those compilation videos people make for their family and friends during birthdays, weddings or whatnot. Those videos are sweet and nostalgic but they're only 15 minutes long at maximum. Boyhood went for 3 hours and I thought that it was too long. The whole thing felt very "jumpy" like it was sort of a summary rather than a story. There was no flow. I think that was the thing that bothered me most aside from the fact that I didn't really care for most of the characters except for Ethan Hawke's. Patricia Arquette did a great job of maintaining her character throughout those 12 years but her character didn't have any sort of development. Sometimes I wonder whether it's because I'm not American that's why I don't find the film endearing. I mean, I might not relate to the film as much as Americans do.

I feel like it's the other way around. People are being overly critical, because it's a Nolan film. I mean, it's fine if people don't like it, but saying you don't like a movie on the basis of its science, or because you could guess the plot twists, is rather ridiculous. I'm very sure that if Interstellar was made after The Dark Knight, instead of Inception, there would be considerable less criticism surrounding it. I just think everybody needs a Nolan break.

This is true and very understandable. But I mean for all Sony's crap and meddling in the film, the makers did so much right. Spider-Man. This was the perfect depiction of Spidey. Perfect movement, perfect wit, fighting style. Having a really cool goblin development in my opinion. He was ruthless, manipulative, scary, psychotic. Electro was powerful and scary, but he is at his core a henchman and that's what he did in the movie. Peter Parker seemed to cry the whole movie. Because his life sucks. Spidey ruined his life and they also captured that. Gosh I know I'm rambling but the more I talk about it the more I love it

My top ten: First off, some honorable mentions: John Wick (Very sleek and stylish action movie. Keanu is boss, and I really hope there's a sequel.) Edge of Tomorrow (A very pleasant surprise. Very original and entertaining. Great to see something fresh and new in an action movie.) X-Men: Days of Future Past (Great super hero film.) The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies (A very solid end to a great trilogy.) And now the top ten: #1. American Sniper (The only movie that brought me to tears all year. Phenomenal acting. Bradley Cooper is maybe the best actor today. I didn't feel as much for any other character than I did for his all year. Eastwood made this the most moving movie for me in a very long time. Incredible film, and say what you will about Chris Kyle, but I think he's a hero. All he ever did was protect and serve his country and fellow soldiers. He was a good man in my eyes.) #2. Captain America: The Winter Soldier (One of the best super hero movies ever. Period. It absolutely blew me away. It was my #1 for the longest time, and barely missed the cut. It's more than a great hero movie. It's just an awesome movie in general.) #3. Whiplash ('Nuff said.) #4. Interstellar (Nolan completely nailed the epic scope of this story in my eyes. An absolutely incredible film. I know people like to hate, and pick it apart, but for me, every single thing you can nitpick or criticize in the movie, Nolan matches it with something completely awesome and epic ten times over. Same thing can be said for DKR in my opinion.) #5. Nightcrawler (Also wildly original. Gyllenhaal's performance alone is must-see. Awesome movie.) #6. Guardians of the Galaxy (Marvel Knocks it out of the park yet again.) #7. Birdman (Wildly original, and absolutely fascinating movie. Every actor killed it as well.) #8. The Lego Movie (Fantastic, hilarious, and the best animated movie I've seen in a long time.) #9. The Equalizer (I probably like this movie much more than I should, but there's just something about Denzel that blows me away every time I see him act. In all honesty, I think that both John Wick and Edge of tomorrow are better action movies, but Denzel was just more powerful on screen than Keanu and Cruise. That made the difference for me.) #10. Draft Day (I know I'm probably the only person on earth who has this in a top 10 list, but I'm just an NFL draft junkie, and I thought the movie totally did it justice. Plus Kevin Costner was a huge bonus to the movie. For those reasons, it makes the list.)

Great list Jeremy! I Didn't see every movie this year but here are my top 10 movies of 2014 10. The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies 9. The Hunger Games: MockingJay Part 1 8. Captain America: The Winter Soldier 7. The Skeleton Twins 6. Snowpiercer 5. The Maze Runner (I know I know, why is it on this list? But holy crap was this film intense, and I thought the ending made complete sense) 4. The Amazing Spider Man 2 (Yes yes, It does have problems, but I still loved it) 3. Gone Girl 2. Interstellar *1. WHIPLASH* - Never before have I been so absorbed in a movie as Whiplash did to me! It had me on the edge of my seat and engaged from start to finish, from great camera work. Sharp, edgy and sometimes funny script, intense as shit, phenomenal acting from Miles Teller and J.K. Simmons, slick and pitch perfect editing, and most importantly great music! This may even be my favourite movie of all time, next to the Lord of the Rings Trilogy of course ;)

I'm really surprised! None of your lists have How To Train Your Dragon 2 on it. That film blew me away. Not often an animation movie can bring me to tears, make me laugh, have kick ass action and have terrific character development along with some great themes all at once. And the soundtrack is just so frickin' awesome! For me it really is, as Jeremy said, the Lion king of this generation. Anyway, 2014 was a great year for movies if you ask me! Looking forward to some new awesome shit this year :) Peace, fellow movie fanatics!

Maybe you're watching the wrong channel? Because that is mostly the kind of movies he watches and enjoys. If you were expecting this list to have different movies on it then I don't think you realize the kind of reviewer Jeremy is. I totally agree that there are tons of movies out there that barely see the light of day in mainstream North American audiences, but those films really aren't what this channel tends to talk about.

Your comment should come with a disclaimer that reads: Warning! I'm a pseudo-snob that feels a purely subjective top ten list should have a few foreign films in it or else the list is not credible. Just because it's different, doesn't mean it's good :)
@WKCuber
@WKCuber 9 лет назад
Why must you be so pretentious? Whiplash could wipe the floor with any foreign movie made this year. And low budget? Yeah the better be bowing to the glory that is X-men.
@jnbfilm56
@jnbfilm56 9 лет назад
07foxmulder i agree with you, i know that i sound pretentious, but believe me it wasnt my intention to degrade american movies i actually said in my comment that i love many hollywood flicks. What i was trying to say is that this list it cannot be trusted. So if i like foreign films that turns me into a snob or a hipster? How can you rely on his opinions when he only reviews blockbusters, thats my just my opinion. I know its very subjective and i accept that maybe i came to the wrong placer. I hope you guys as well as him give different movies a chance, and remember this, i never said a foreign or an independent film should be on top i just think the list its not fair.
