About a month before he died, my brother sent him a letter, asking for his autograph and how much he was an inspiration to him. Two weeks later, Robin not only sent him an autograph, but he also sent this heartfelt note explaining how happy it made him feel. We have it hung up on our wall in our living room, note and everything. I still tear up when I look at it sometimes. We miss you, Robin. ❤️

Robin Williams was a man who made everyone feel welcomed; at ease; as though they had a friend, or at least someone who understood. He was an American treasure, though God knows he made Scotland hold her head up, too. Excellent tribute, Mr. Walter. Well done.

Been having a really tough day today, it's a bittersweet reminder that even someone as great and hilarious as Robin Williams can have dark times just like me. I know it's weird but it gives me hope that even someone who carries such heavy baggage around can achieve amazing things. I think I needed this video today.
@B0rn2Gam3
@B0rn2Gam3 7 лет назад
That's a good way of looking at it. Optimism is something I feel is sorely lacking in the modern day so it's always nice to see someone looking for positives among all the negatives. Things only become hopeless if you truly think it is, so never give up that hope. I'm sorry if this got kinda preachy but I hope whatever is troubling you turns out okay, take care.

It's amazing how many people were affected by Robin Williams' performances, and pretty much very existence. Even I remember him fondly from Aladdin, Mrs. Doubtfire and Jumanji. This guy was so amazing with his work, and was also amazing as a person. It kills me that he ended up the way he did. Rest in peace, Robin. Everyone miss you already. BTW Walter, your speech in the end had me in tears. Even I barely managed to watch Robin Williams' movies ever since his death. You were right about everything you've said. :'(

David Pierdomenico World's Greatest Dad is probably the one movie of his that I absolutely hate, not his fault though. I've had so many people I know kill themselves and just to think of his character doing what he did and there not being that much resolution really made me sick. I actually got rid of the movie the day I first watched it. I know it wasn't Robins fault since it was the script amd everything but I still say its his only movie that I actually hate.

13:36-15:56 Beautiful words there, Walter. Words cannot describe how shocked I was when I heard that Robin Williams died, in the manner of how he died. His Genie character said "you ain't never had a friend like me". I personally felt like it is the truth. There will never be another one like Robin Williams, a person who was a huge part of my childhood. I hope he's in a better place.

How is it that everyone forgets Awakenings like no one talks about it?
@gamingntea
@gamingntea 7 лет назад
Although I agree with your statement that Awakening is an underrated flick in Robin's filmography, I believe it's nowhere near Mr. Williams' most underrated performance. That honor has to go to Moscow On The Hudson. Talk about unrecognizable. I grew up on Robin's performances as well and not for one second did it cross my mind that this Vladimir Ivanoff character that I'm watching is actually an American actor playing a role, much less a guy whose films had a key role in my upbringing. I also believe Mr. Williams' turn as Jack Powell has a place on this list, even if the movie itself wasn't that good. There's just something fascinating about seeing a 40-year-old man and believing for a fleeting moment that there's a 10-year-old child trapped in there.

I'll never forget the day I learned of his death. I was playing Tera when I noticed the chat was being spammed with Robin Williams is dead. I thought someone was just looking for attention, so I ignored it. A few minutes later I noticed it was still going on so I alt-tabbed out my game and went to wikipedia to see for myself and when I saw it was for real, my heart sank. I was so devastated that I couldn't even keep playing my game. I just sat at my computer bawling. What made his death worse for me was the suicide. The fact that I could relate (having depression myself) is what hit me the hardest. I'm one of many younger adults that grew up with Robin. I've been sad at the loss of many actors that I've grown up with and liked over the years, but I've never cried so hard as I did with Robin's. Even writing this makes me tear up. Though he had a difficult life, he did a great job of hiding it just to make the world laugh. RIP good sir, you were one of a kind that we may never experience again.

This is a great episode, and I am thankful to you for reminding me of movies I haven't seen in years. I have only seen "Hook," "Bicentennial Man," and "What Dreams May Come" since his death, only because I wanted to introduce my wife to the magic he brought into my life. As my wife is not originally from the USA, she didn't have much knowledge of Robin. Since his death, it's hard to watch any of his movies these days. Thank you for paying such respect to an man who touched so many hearts around the world.

Absolutely perfect number 1, for some reason Robin was just so amazing playing these flawed characters that were objectively villains but you can't help but sympathise with them. He did that same kind of thing again in one of the best SVU episodes, Authority. He played Merritt Rook and if you haven't seen it, that's one you need to see if you enjoyed seeing Robin tapping into that sympathetic dark character that he did so well

Walter, I know there will be a Top 5 Worst, but I do hope that Bicentennial Man avoids that list... While not one of his strongest, it was a very fine performance... And your closing speech... No 'word of a lie, bought a tear to my eye... My first experiences of Williams were the Old Days, Mork in 'Happy Days and 'Mork and Mindy'... As I grew up, I came to love his stand up, but his movies really showed the talent he had... He will always be missed... Criminally under rated by the Oscars... He was a Legend!

I was so badly hoping to see THAT movie at number :) Thank you for being honest rather than going with the crowd. And by that, i mean Robin being able to not only stretch his acting muscles, do something we hadn't actually seen from him before, by far. Not only that, but to do it well... near perfection. Shockingly enough, not many people are even aware that 1HP exists, but that's probably because younger audiences know Robin as the funny or family orientated man, therefore kind of pushing the media to not promote it as much they did when it originally came out. I hardly ever saw advertisements for it and when i did eventually see it, i was astonished at how intense, and amazing it truly was and still is til this very day. Had he not passed away when he did, i'm sure we would've seen much more similar works from him.

This was a sweet look back at one of the greatest performers -- and people -- of all time. Robin was one of my first inspirations as a kid, going back to Mork & Mindy. So when he died, and the nature with which that all happened became apparent, it really hurt. It still hurts. For a man, as you said in the video, that we never really knew, he felt like family, in a lot of ways. Aladdin is probably my all-time favorite of his performances. Mrs. Doubtfire, Good Will Hunting, One Hour Photo, Hook, et al, are wonders to behold, as well. But the Genie will forever be my favorite. The world is a sadder place, without Robin in it. But at least he left us a legacy of laughter and amazing performances to look back on and learn from.

Banasiak. You big ol' cup of softserv, you. Love the ending of this. I took Heath Ledger's loss hard, and still get choked up thinking of him, and what could have been. Meditating on his passing sometimes takes me to this place where I understand this whole thing called Film. Why people act, why performances are filmed, why we watch. Separate from the business side of it, sometimes I get the art and beauty of it, the "why." Good vids, man. I like what you guys do, and you all help me see the beauty and the art in Film.

I haven't seen a Williams movie since he died. The thing is I didn't cry when I heard the news, I went weeks without shedding a tear until on one of my late night Disney song binges I got to _"Friend Like Me"_ and just lost it. Gruber, Metatron, Alexander Dane, Professor Snape are the first four that pop to mind for Best. For worse I'd have to say the top two are: Detective David Friedman from Judas Kiss - www.imdb.com/title/tt0138541/?ref_=nv_sr_2 and David Weinberg from Dark Harbor - www.imdb.com/title/tt0129023/?ref_=nv_sr_1 And that has more to do with bad/weird scripts than his acting. It's hard to do a good job when the writing itself is not good.

i didnt expect one hour photo to be 1. it is a special movie for me. it's the only movie i stopped watching only because i felt so bad for the characters. cant explain it. and i have watched horror movies, it's not the same feeling.

Kristhor I'm gonna watch it right now. kinda scared tbh xD Robin Williams playing creepy characters is twice as scary than Jack Nicholson in the shining

I tried rewatching it but I got way too skeeved out. That shows how Robbin can make you love him in one minute and absolutely disgusted the next.

I believe the reason for that is because of how much everyone sees Robin as a beloved character. He's usually portrayed as this bright, happy, strong hearted fella who could do no wrong. Then One Hour Photo happened. He played dark characters before, but the feeling wasn't as strong in this movie. Having an actor everyone loves play as a very dark character is very chilling, like taking a childhood memory and stuffing it with horror. He was probably the only actor, who was a typecast and yet was amazing in doing roles many wouldn't see him in. Robin is one of my favorite actors and comedians and for good reason. ^^

As amazing as Robin Williams is in that movie, I think Nathan Lane kind of stole the show.

I am really happy with the top two. I did not expect one hour photo to even make the list. I've watched Good Will Hunting many times and always enjoy it. I've watched One Hour Photo once. I don't want to watch it and over analyze. It was new to one of the pay channels when I saw it, so it's been a long time. Been letting it simmer for years so that I can come back to it fresh.

Is there any people like me just while watching a few scenes extracts, even for a little while, just tiny seconds, listening Robin W's voice and looking at his facial expressions, with or without music in the background, but especially with deep and serious sad music obviously...starting to get a choke in the throat, you see ? I mean of course trying to stop yourself from crying towards emotion and this truely fascinating ability he had to strike us so hard and so easily in all of our emotion's colour-painting...to me, he was even greater again to make us cry than to make us laugh, sometimes and so much more than I thought when I was a kid !

Soooooo happy to see One Hour Photo as #1. I did not even expect it to make the list because it's not a well known film and people want comedy when it comes to RW. But this darker side suits RW very well. One Hour Photo is my favorite performance of him, also one of my favorite films.

This to 10 brought back some memories. Two memories that stand out for me is back in 04/05 when I first started playing world of Warcraft I joined a group to run some dungeons with and there was a mage named Genie. We ran two dungeons and decided to run a few more the mage named Genie asked the group if we had ventrillo voice chat, we did and he told us to hang with him in his vent channel turns out that mage was none other than Robin Williams. He was very nice, friendly and was making funny voices, telling jokes and such so we would all have a good time. The second memory is fast forward to 06/07 I was in the army and deployed overseas and Robin Williams had came to the base I was at to perform at a USO show. After his performance he hung out with all the troops there took pictures, chatted with us, ate dinner with us and such. I talked to him and brought up about running into him a couple of years prior in world of Warcraft and he remembered it and said that those were some fun dungeon runs we did. I didn't know him personally but I got to talk to him two separate times and got to meet him and he was one of the nicest most genuine people I've ever met

One of the things I love, that robot you see the kid carrying at 11:23, that is a Master Grade Zaku II Char Custom model kit, it was Robin's and he did put it together.

What Dreams May Come is the movie that really gets to me. It's such a visceral look into love and sadness, brought to life using visuals that tear into your emotions. I think of him when I think of the scene with his character and his wife in their house when it was brought to ruin. He was such an amazing actor, and I was stunned when I heard he died. RIP Robin.

I love goodwill hunting. I watched it for the first time recently in my psychology class (even though I've owned a copy of it for about two years. Never got around to watching it.) it's the first role that comes to mind when I hear his name. And my god, that park bench scene is fantastic.

I'm a bit surprised Awakenings didn't get a mention because that was not only a great movie, but a fantastic performance by Williams. Didn't expect One Hour Photo to be #1 but still a good choice.

I'm an English major, and I hate Dead Poets Society. It's not Robin William's fault--it 's just that the script was obviously written by someone who had no idea what it's like to work in the humanities.

I wrote a whole paper on it in college, but basically, William's character does not do any actual analysis of literature. He just reads stuff he thinks sounds pretty. It's a nice sentiment (and not entirely without merit), but it forces a very narrow view of the study of literature onto impressionable children without actually giving them any tools to help understand the information they are processing.
