Well yeah because in the novels, demons black eyes could reflect the stars when u look at it. But it would be near impossible to do that in the serials.
No more Orange juice She was a great portrayal of Elena (or how the writers wanted to portray IN THE tv show) but comparing her to other actors I know of, her acting is good, but not AMAZING. Kind of the reason why I never cried watching her scenes. Candice and Kat were AMAZING though!
@@fatoumatacisse3796 Poor argument. I agree that Nina Dobrev was amazing in the roles and I do not support @Karis H's statement, but one does not need to be an actor in order to criticise another actor's work
i love Bonnie Bennett but we should have seen more of her instead of adding the Originals to the story line! i like the originals dont get me wrong but i love Bonnie and Grams!!! grams will always be "Whitley "from a different world to me! that plus dead like me! we just needed more time with the Bennett's and not bring one in and kill them off type of scenario!
I'm upset that the show writers made Damon end up with Elena instead of Bonnie despite the fact that Damon and Bonnie had better chemistry. I've also always saw that she and Matt were a perfect fit in the first season but nobody else noticed that and this is the first time in 10 years that I've heard about their relationship in the book!!!!!!
they're not that good honestly. I read all of them but the characters aren't just annoying, but unrelatable. Caroline as she is at the very beginning of the show is basically who Elena is for most of the books and its just exhausting honestly.
Tbh, I kinda do, too, but at the same time, hearing how some things are just makes me feel like I wouldn’t enjoy it. Especially with Elena being so much like a human Caroline. I mean, I never really liked Caroline until after she became a vampire and I don’t really know how I’ll enjoy a book while hating the main character.
This is one of the few instances where the movie/tvshow is better. I finally decided to read the books because I love the show so much. I read the first 2 and finally called it quits in book 3 I couldn’t do it anymore. The characters are absolutely awful and difficult to bond with and imo the story was boring. I may try the Originals books at some point
@@LifeAsItIs478752 oh I just want to read it to see what other creatures exist tbh. I feel like as long as I dont compare the two I could think of it as a different story
@@clarenceparents4945 hahaha watch the movies that Nina Dobrev did before and after TVD. Her acting SUCKS. It doesn't matter what happened after S2. The script was the same for everyone. The fault isn't of writters. Nothing explains her annoying way to act. Elena was nasty even in the books.
So she was able to play them different, you can just TELL who was who.... I have a lot of tvd media in my phone and the auto face recognition even knows and separates images of katherine and Elena.
Human Caroline Forbes (Tv series) is like Elena Gilbert in the books. The book's Katherine is more like the confused and shy Elena of the series and Bonnie in book seems to be a bit unhinged. It just is.....painful
Thank you! Finally someone who think so, as well. I mean her appearance and her character fit book elena! And how ironic that they went with the next-door brunette but people ended up liking caroline's development more!
@@athenarivera8237 Bamon were soul mates ugh! I can't believe Julia didn't make it happen. Also, Stephen was made for Katherine, Elena soulmate is Stephens Doppelganger but he was killed for his blood.
Um, they tried making a show called The Secret Circle which was about witches and based on another book written by the Vampire Diaries author. It was cancelled after one season. It was actually pretty good, except the main actress
MichaelJ Compeltely disagree. Sometimes bad direction or writing can be the reason, but in this case she straight up couldn’t act, it was so painful to watch
I actually CRIED when Bonnie lost Enzo. Their relationship was EVERYTHING. And I hated that Bonnie always sacrificed herself and her happiness for everybody else.
I like the fact that Damon and Bonnie could JUST be friend’s and nothing more than that. Not every friendship has to have a romantic story to it. So the fact that Bonnie and Damon has a very good friendship that I loved because it shows the realistic ideas that boys and girls can be freinds
I'm so glad they added ''the original family'' because, tbh, it was the best thing that happened to TVD. Plus, I love the Originals a lot more and TVD had such a dissapointing last season
there is also the HUGE fact that when Elena dies, her angel side woke up and she had multiple powers through a different set of wings. how Damon turned back into being human again. (by a fox who gave him a flower and he ate it). the fact that Tyler and Caroline end up together in the books. That there was no Original family, Klaus turned Katherine because he was asked to by Katherine's ''nanny'' (if I remember correctly) because she was dying and somehow she knew that Klaus was a vampire (and a total loner and hermit). As mentioned below, the brothers were Italian and lived in the renaissance era, that they died in a duel, killing each other with swords. THERE IS SO MUCH that the show left from the books. SO EFFING MUCH.
Big Sigh yea 100% it’s probably my fourth favourite ship outta this series but this is my favourite ships 1. Damon and elena 😍😍 aka my fav 2. Elijah and Hayley 3. Jeremy and Anna 4.Caroline and Klous
@@evelynharber6077 That scene where he threatened her little sister in the book...man if they had put that in the series I doubt people would have liked him so much. LOL
@@samhart4205I mean don't get me wrong I loved Damon. He was my favorite, but he was still a lot more cruel in the books. That doesn't mean i didn't like him. But I have a feeling if they had put him forth like that in the series a lot less people would have liked him.
@@heatheralpert2294 It's funny you should say that. I find Damon in season one the closest to book Damon, that's why I love his character so much in season one. He's very unpredictable although book Damon has that and the suaveness of Elijah. He was a charmer as a human, and cultured learned Italian nobleman. I think Book Damon is very hard to resist 😂
I like katherine more too, she's right, she never turn off her humanity even tho she suffer so much and was on the run but Elena did and Katherine hated her for been such a hypocrite and for been pretentious,at least Katherine recognize been a bitch herself and own it.
idk if it’s just me but i hated when elena started to curl her hair rather than straightening it. it was like her thing? idk how to explain it. but the curled hair is katherines thing.
Elena’s curly hair is actually different from Katherine’s. it’s way different curls. Elena was soo pretty with straight hair and Katherine was soo pretty with curly hair. I personally hated Elena’s hair in season 4, it got better in season 6 and in finale episode but I think they ruined Elena’s look.
I kinda agree but I think that happened because of her becoming a vampire, she changed them in a wavy style and don't exactly curly like Kathrine's because she was something between her old self and Katherine to show us the difference between her being a human or a vampire and the fact that she is not like Kathrine. That's why when she turned as human again, her hair was strait!!. Idk if that makes any sence but I tried to explain it the best I could!!!! HAPPY NEW YEAR BTW
I can definitely say that The Vampire Diaries' writers did a great job when in comes to changing some aspects for the series, while still maintaining elements of their source material.
I liked the first 3 seasons. Season 3 was my fave because of The Originals. After that, the show went downhill imo. I think the season with Kai in it wasn’t so bad, it reminded me of the original essence of the show, like how it was seasons 1-3.
I think the reason why everyone hated Elena was because she didn’t have any character development. For example, Caroline started off petty, materialistic, and selfish but changed throughout the 8 seasons of the show into a caring, compassionate person. Elena started off nice but then she became more mean and selfish (having everyone else sacrifice everything to save her). And Bonnie was constant throughout the series: selfless and always protecting her friends. Damon was also a liked character because he started off an assh*le and then as he started falling for Elena he slowly became more and more like able and a good character. Katherine also started out this way and became kinda good
Remember when Elena said in season 6, “Bonnie Bennett, you have spent your entire life making sacrifices for me now it’s my turn, for you”. She is kind.
Elena’s character development is almost the opposite in the books. In the books she starts off very much like Caroline at the beginning and then becomes decent (but honestly, still annoying to me). Show Elena starts off pretty good and then becomes annoying.
You can honestly write a book on how different the book series and TV show are. Elena is blonde with blue eyes, Caroline and Bonnie are both redheads, Jeremy doesn't exist, Jenna is Judith, the town is named Fell's Church, Stefan and Damon are from 1490s Renaissance Italy and not the 1860s Civil War, the list goes on.
@@LolixBelle I don't know if I remember correctly, but wasn't she "half vampire" sort of? In one of the books, it was revealed a vampire had attacked her family and turned her brother, but left her and gave instructions to her family to give her blood sausages..?
katherine and stefan for life !! idc what anyone says they should have started dating in season 5 when katherine was dying and he should have kissed her and somehow because they are doppelgängers the kiss healed her from dying and they fell back in love with each other and get married
Stefan never met his doppelganger. Tom was Elena's doppelganger, but they never met either. Ditto, with Katherine. Just because they met, doesn't mean they were doppelgangers that were created in "pairs." They were born centuries apart. And Stefan/Elena were soulmates. The whole show is proof?
Sam Hart Elena and Tom (stefans doppelgänger) were born in the same century, they were the pair that was supposed to end up together, Stefan wasn’t supposed to live long enough to meet Elena
@@mothbbe333 Erm, that wasn't your original point? You're claiming that Stefan/Katherine to be doppelgangers of each other's "pairs." There's 400 YEARS between them? Tom/Elena were of similar age, because their birth coincided the way Tessa explained. And yeah. Vampirism, death, love and freewill does influence the meeting of dopplegangers. So, Nature CAN'T force the doppelgangers to meet more than actually any other two other people can. It doesn't dictate a dopples life.
@@random_meta She wasn't entirely pure and nice, I mean (spoilers) she did fake her own death when both Stefan and Damon rejected her and called her selfish for choosing both of them lol
@@carjohnsxn they didn't exactly reject her... But they did reject the threesome idea, lol I personally felt bad for her, because she just wanted to love, and be loved by both. She faked her death in order to bring the two brothers close, but it backfired when the idiots killed each other
I’ve never read the books but I just want to say: justice for Jocett. And I was pissed when Enzo died since Bonnie was ripped off of happiness for eight seasons.
Who else loves katherine more than elena????? Edit: the reason i think people like katherine more is because she never played the victim card. Elena always did even though sometimes she was in the wrong. I think people call elena a crybaby because a lot of her relationships weren't very deep and connected until she loses those people. For an example i felt like elena wasn't even close with jeremy until that scene when they get high and when he died. But both characters have been trough alot and they just deal with it in a different way. If anything like that would have happwnded to me i would cry and cry waaayyyyyy more than elena.
in the books elena dies trying to save damon and stefan from katerine's compulsion just to come back to life as a maiden and confront klaus. caroline got pregnant with tyler and he's a dickhead
You should of said how Stefan and Damon have different history. *Spoilers Ahead!* Like their not even American or from the Civil War but from Florence, Italy Renaissance era in the books.
@@snotterwt If you really want to read them, go ahead. Both stories are amazing. I read the books way before I watched the show and at the beginning I hated the show for all the differences (seriously, what they said in the video is nothing, they have nothing to do with each other except for the three main characters), but with time I learned to love both precisely because of their differences.
Doppelgangers don't exist in the novel. Elena and Katherine were born half angel half human. Katherine got turned into a vampire by Klaus before she could awaken her angel half. Klaus is also the only original from the novel that made it to the show. Elijah, Rebecca etc don't exist in the novel. Also Klaus isn't a hybrid in the novel, his just an original vampire. Also the original vampires weren't created by witches in the novel and the same goes for the werewolves. They are just as old as the witches in the novel. Also the originals are much more powerful in the novel to the point where witches can't do shit to them aside from angels since angel blood is toxic to them and the wood from the white oak tree.
@@mrkid2451 eh not really..it’s extremely confusing..Katherine has already explained why she hated Elena and that checks out lol (Elena got to live the life she always wanted- plus she got to have Stefan & everyone loved her)
Actually it wouldn't TVD is supposed to be supernatural show, drama, unrealistic so all these things from the books would make way more sense if they just included it.
V M I ageee if it would’ve had more supernatural beings it just would’ve been to much The books don’t sound good to compared on what J just watched and cried
Actually she went out with Damon for a short time but went running back to Stefan after she realized she made a mistake by leaving him. Ps Stefan caught Elena cheating on him with damonin the novel so he broke up with her but she goes running back to him after she realizes she made a mistake by leaving him. Bonnie and Damon become lovers in the novel after Elena ditches him.
In the books. Elena was shallow and mean because she was the most popular girl in school and she always got everything she wanted. When she met Stephan, she got humbled because he didn't want her at first and then when they were together she knew it meant taking a lot of public criticism to be with him. She started bad, but became more likeable.
@@saigie3908 I wouldnt say I hated him, but i didnt like him either. He was so hellbent on getting revenge on klaus that he never really served any purpose.
Reasons why I didn’t like most of the characters besides Bonnie: -Bonnie sacrificed herself so many times -She was selfless and wanted a happy ending -She DESERVED a happy ending - Nobody cared that Bonnie sacrificed herself so many times for THEM - She could’ve had her happy ending if it wasn’t for Elena being selfish most of the times, (and for Stefan killing her Endgame, but he turned off his humanity) - And she did had the choice to be selfish but she decided to save her “friends” - She’s a badass, and one of the most strongest characters - I love my Bonnie Bennet in the show she deserved EVERYTHING (I like most of the characters it’s just that I like Bonnie more than all of them)
madeinyusei - elena is selfish asf. She acts like she cares but in the end she knows everyone will do anything for her and often starts shit she knows she can’t finish but she doesn’t care because someone will fix it for her. Almost all the problems in the show result from her
Damon went through a lot and everyone around him telling over and over again that he doesn't deserve to be happy that he doesn't deserve Elena . The nature , universe and the people telling him he won't get to be with Elena. And always making Stefan the better brother , the hero, I think he deserved Elena more. His love for her was so real that the universe be damned. Hence the end was epic.
Abida Aminzai technically she didn’t cause the mess Tessa did because she created the immortality spell so without her Elena wouldn’t exist so no mess, but then you wouldn’t have a show
all the time in the show everyone would point out how "bad" damon is, how he's a monster with no feelings and how his selfish and always gets things his way but damon was actually one of the most selfless characters ever and its sad to see how people made such a huge bad image for him.
honestly, i think she didn’t deserve neither of the salvatore brothers. I’m not even done watching it, but she knew that if she chose one of them, she would lose the other and possibly ruin the bond of both brothers (not really bond bond, like “oh i love you smsm” but like you get what i mean) and with that information she STILL chose one brother and then went for the other like??? girl, you really don’t need no man. If she really cared enough to not, hm well idk, take that chance of ruining something, then she would’ve pushed whatever those feelings she has for both the brothers aside, Not just for the sake of her losing the other brother, but ruining the bond Stefan and Damon have for each other.
They weren't really a couple. In the books Bonnie really likes Damon and he is affectionate towards her and cares for her a lot but they never actually get together. He still wants Elena first and foremost.
Anahita E.m they were never a couple there lol they had a bit of romantic moments and close relationships but they never became a couple. He wanted elena real bad like her body and soul in the books.
I think that the books Damon doesn't really love Elena, he just want her because she looks like Katherine but with more attitude and to upset Stefan. For me, Bonnie is his true soulmate.
Even if the show was casted very differently, I think all of the actors did a hell of a job. Ian Somerholder, Paul Wesley, Nina Dobrev (it takes talent to play two very different personalities convincingly), and Kat Graham, and literally everyone else.
I read all the books, and I remember enjoying them. Then again, I read them when I was quite young. I remember loving the storyline where Bonnie and Damon get stuck in the Dark dimension, the kitsune storyline was pretty interesting too. The only changes I hated from book to Tv show was Bonnie and Damon being together (cause they had mad chemistry in the show) and the extra powers that the vampires had.
Evelyn Harber yeah, it annoyed me that they changed that in the show. I remember Damon could turn into a crow in the books, and Katherine was some kind of big cat but I don’t remember if it was a lion or tiger or something

The show should've stayed true to the source material. And the actors of Bonnie and Damon had great onscreen chemistry. I think the show was afraid their predominately all-white audience would not approve of their lead star being with a black woman, smh
My top 10 differences between the books and the show 10. In the books Klaus was the only original and not a hybrid 9. Katherine should have died in season one, and Elena should have become a vampire and then died killing Katherine 8. Stefan and Damon are hot italian boys 7. Elena is a literal angel after her death 6. The entire trip into the shadow realm, and the ensuing battle with the kitsune as opposed to Damon and Bonnie being trapped in a prison world and bringing back momma Salvatore and Kai 5. Jeremy is supposed to be a five year old girl 4. Tyler turned Caroline into a werewolf by getting her pregnant, and was literally evil 3. When the girls went to college Elena was human, and it was a fight with a society that pretty much worshipped and was looking to resurrect Klaus 2. Damon dies and is then brought back to life by Bonnie 1. Stefan is actually a likeable character in the books,
I bought the books and tried to read - got through the first 5 and well.... that took some doing on my part - determination rather than enjoyment. Had I read the books first, I'd never have even given a though to watching the show and would have missed out on one of my favourite shows ever.
I loved book Elena because she was NOT our typical "nice girl, super likely and there is nothing bad to say about her" type. The scene where she saw Stefano the first time, and he did not even look at her, was hilarious! This also left a lot of room for her to grow. Series Elena was just another boring stereotype of a protagonist. Also I fell in love with book Bonnie so I was not down with the series Bonnie. Don't know about the rest of the series tho as I stopped watching after 2 Episodes and just read the books again.
EXACTLY. and she wasnt even MEAN?? like i HATE when people say she was mean, she wasnt. book elena wasnt a bully or mean, she was just popular and confident and strong. she had her petty moments, but thats what made her realistic. she was still a caring person at the end of the day, but she wasnt a doormat, thats why book elena is >>>>

It's just very annoying to have everyone's entire world revolve around her, when there were so many other great characters they could've focused on. And all the while EVERYONE is trying to save her all the time, she's always like, "No, I want to help too, because I care about you!" So she just gets herself into more danger and her friends have to bail her out even more. EVERYONE was always sacrificing for her. Even when Elena was written out of the series, they STILL made it ALL ABOUT ELENA. The fact that Stefan and Damon were so insanely in love with her in the show was ridiculous. If they were going to make them be that in love with her, they should've made the viewers fall in love with her too. Then at least we'd understand Stefan and Damon. But clearly, a lot of fans hate Elena lol
@@Lee-qf9dz I liked how they portrayed Elena because if I was in the situations she was in, I wouldn't want people sacrificing themselves for me but they probably would try to anyways and I would do it for them just like she tries to. Personally I think they were trying to make it relatable. Obviously not everyone is going to relate to it and there could've been improvements but overall I thought it was pretty good. I don't think it was meant to be all about Elena either. I think it was meant to show how much Damon and Stefan care and that they would do anything just like her friends would and she would do anything for them. Plus there were things that didn't focus on her solely

As soon as I started this video, I thought, "Gee, I wish they had this for The 100" Naturally, I checked right away, and sure enough....there it is, a year old.
I don’t know why everyone is hating on elena: -She lost all of her parents (John and Isobel) (Her mom and dad) -Her Aunt Jenna -her brother MULTIPLE times -She has died like twice -almost been killed many times for who she is -Been through many break ups, (Matt, Damon, stefan) -Lost her best friend Bonnie so many times -and she burnt her house down in anger -Also been kidnapped a few times -thought she was going crazy So I’m sorry if I like elena, it’s just my opinion :P
Did you forget the part where she planned to kill of 2 originals + their sire line not even thinking about all the innocent vampire lives that were going to be lost? She killed thousands of people that were sired to Finn and Kol just because she wanted to get the cure to cure her vampire side because she couldn’t handle it. Katherine lost everyone so what’s the excuse for Katherine? Katherine has no one to help her but yet never turned off her humanity, burned her house. Smh I don’t get why people make excuses for Elena when it’s obvious she’s selfish
She lies to get what she wants, like she lied to Elijah and almost got his whole family killed off by Ester. She played the Salvatore brothers, on and off. She’s been hypocritical plus made everything about herself, Stefan Rebekah and Caroline called her out on it multiple times.
Forbes Caroline with Finn , it was actually Damon’s plan to kill them, not Elena. And Kohl, what was Elena supposed to do? Let him cut off jeremy’s arms and die? And when Ester told Elena about the plan, Elena didn’t keep it to herself she told the originals, what their mother was going to do, she just didn’t want to tell Elijah as it would hurt him.
EbonyStarDust she didn’t tell them, she let them drink the poison. They could of come up with another solution like they always do instead of killing of thousands of innocent vampires that were sired.
elena was so annoying in the show. i’ve never read the books, but in the beginning when she started having feelings for damon, she got onto him after he confessed. then, again when rebekah offered to take away stefan’s memories of loving her to save him the pain, she was offended and hated the idea. but when damon died, she took away her memories (selfishly.) not to mention that she’s always the damsel in distress. she also got upset when stefan told her she had never seen him when he wasn’t in love with her (therefore saying he didn’t love her anymore) but she slept with his brother.
