I work Local for FedEx and I can assure you that at least at my location, we care about your live animals! A reptile box went missing and my manager tore the entire building apart to find it. We make sure ya critters are well taken care of when put on the vans for delivery!

My first t was an aphonopelma seemani (striped knee), named her Sylvia. Still have her and now after her second molt in two years I'm gaining confidence in my keeping ability. I am waiting for fear not to get back from the expo to order a few more.

Used to be deathly afraid of the idea of tarantulas but this whole community have really changed my perspective! I currently have a T. Vagans sling and I have a GBB as well as a Salmon Pink on the way. I am so excited to learn more and get hands on experience with these beautiful creatures!

This guy seems so friendly! I just want to hang out with him and have some beers :P I sometimes feel intimidated by big men like this, but he has such a beautiful smile and he seems like he would be so nice and give really great hugs ☺️ He strikes me as a Hagrid type- may look intimidating on first glance, but is probably incredibly warm and loyal. Plus he and Hagrid both love big spiders and providing education about lesser known creatures lol

No dislikes so far. That's how it should be. My first T. was a Chaco Golden Knee sling someone just gave to me. That was about nine years ago and luckily, she became a cute, big and peaceful female and I still have her. Totally recommendable to begin with.

Good one again . If you're a new keeper or an old hand , I'd suggest a complete package from F N T . Got my first slings a month ago . Still nervous about them . Also Fear not will send you a short list of instructions . One says if you choose to unbox them in the bathtub make sure you plug the drain . Someone learned the hard way .

15 to 20.. hehe sure .... sure. .. 🤭🤭🤭 I breed ball pythons so my "20 ish" T's are so rewarding! So easy next to the Ball pythons, Reticulated Pythons and other species I work with yet SO fun rewarding and just wonderful. A breath of fresh air.

Awsome video as always. One thing I will add just from personal experience with ordering slings is I thought I was getting a 1/2 inch sling but it ended up being closer to 1 inch due to molting during shipping or they just put a larger sling in. Not a big deal but I have had to rethink the enclosure I was putting them in a couple times.

So I’m thinking about getting a Grammostola pulchra or Brazilian Black for my first tarantula. I’m an experienced jumping spider keeper, but I know that’s very different! I’m wondering if the Exo-Terra Mini 12x12x12 terrarium would be okay with a bioactive set up, considering I’ve heard from some sources that too much height can be dangerous for terrestrial breeds like this. I did see your video about beginner mistakes and am planning to retrofit the lid as you recommended. I’ve been loving your channel - it’s such an awesome resource! Thanks in advance!!

I‘ve got my slings in small plastic containers. If they start to be more active hunters, I change them to the small Exoterras. The 20x20x20cm cubes. If they grow, I‘ll change to the bigger enclosures.

Can you over-feed a sling and rupture it's abdomen?

yes, you can over feed a tarantula to where the abdomen gets swollen. then if it were to climb up the side of its enclosure and fall...there would be a higher risk of the abdomen rupturing

My first sling I picked up last week and it's a Brazilian Black (Grammastola Pulcra) and honestly, I adore the little one;) no idea if it's a male or female yet--it is just a baby sling but..at the same time, it's just very chill and too cool already:) looking forward to when they molt for the first time since they've been home--thank you for making a video like this, it DOES help alot since this is my VERY first tarantula and of course it's a teenie baby one at that lol. Also, your enthusiasm in your videos--too awesome;) I love the high energy:)

I have a worry about a sling of mine if anyone has any tips... I currently have 1 Obt sling, a Sapphire ornamental sling, and a juvenile Veryicolor. But I also have a Blue leg baboon sling. Now weeks and weeks ago my obt was getting ready to molt, at the same time, my blue leg baboon covered his burrow with substrate for a couple weeks. The obt molted and is fine, the blue leg finally came back out of his burrow and his abdomen is huge. I do not believe it molted. A week or two later up to today he still hasn’t molted, I only fed it once or twice because I worry about giving it more. It’s legs have also dulled in color a little bits I worry if it’s okay or not, should I be concerned and why is the most likely reason it showed premolt behavior but then emerges without molting?

That would depend on the size of the sling. I'd try 5 or 6 and see how it does.

@@luvzanyandeverything mine has continued to grow, 2 molts with me thus far. My arachnid family has also continued to grow- I got a Haploclastus devamatha a while back, she is incredible! I just uploaded a video in which she has an incredible takedown (in Animals Do the Darnest Things if you're interested). I've been debating whether to get a Mexican Jade Fuego next or two bullsnake babies... it's a tough choice!

Do you have any good videos on how to take care of a pink toe tarantula? I live in Arizona where it’s super dry and I’m having a hard time keeping the cage humid, and I’ve been feeding it mealworms a lot he seems to like those but not sure if it’s a good diet. Thanks!

I think I am broken or I broke my tarantula, I have a brachypelma boehmei and it's been 2 years, it is still a baby, it has molted 3 times but it is just a baby, I am happy she is still alive but I fear that she will never grow and I will never see those beautiful colors

I‘m always so worried about my slings, too 🥲 my Brachypelma and Tliltocatl species are like your B. bohemei, veeeeery slowly growing. Especially the females take forever to grow up 😱 I‘ve got a 7yo B. emilia that is still small. And my 11yo Hamorii is frequently molting 1-2 times a year. And still not reached the final size 😂 At the other hand the goliath birdeaters growing sooo fast 🤩 guess we need to be patient with the Mexicans 🥰

I've raised a few T's since spiderlings, over 4 years now. Most are mature now. One Rosie, my first, which I raised as a sling, in now a juvenile.....female, I believe.....but an Irminia, large camel back, cancereides, Salmon pink bird eater, A Henzi, and Albicepts, Mexican Red Knee. I also have a few which I adopted from breeders and pet stores. Another mature female Rosie, and a Green Femur Euathlus. Also, a 7 legged Seemani, but very healthy mature female.

And I am 1 year into the hobby. I went from owning 1 Avic which matured out to a male (R.I.P. Fluffy), and now I am at 18 of various species. All NW so far, but I hear a P. Met calling my name.

So I'm not thinking of getting a pet spider... Though I have had a lot of thoughts of spiders today... Spider man. Spider webs. Then my manager brought up a place with spiders. I know when you talked about feeding a spiderling, I was thinking that a spiderling could just get a big bug and keep it in its web and eat as it gets hungry... Then you brought up the rotting thing. What do you feed the crickets to keep them alive until it's time to feed your spider?

Hello. I actually have arachnophobia and I am working on getting over my fear over spiders so I said, what better way than having my own baby. So I got a guatamalan tiger rump. This helped me learn more about them and reduce my anxiety and I hope to provide the best for my sling! Wish me luck!

Stay off of T's kids...All I wanted was a Chalcodes to get over arachnophobia. I now own 6 tarantulas and currently housing 2 of my friends...tarantulas are addictive!

My hesitancy of ordering online is the massive markup & shipping cost. My first Tarantula was free and I've recently added 2 slings to my collection. 1 curly hair and 1 pumpkin patch. $35 for both and a half hour of driving one way. That's it. I'm cheap. 😂

Hi Richard, (or anyone who can help), I saw a juvenile today that I think is a pink toe. Are there brown pink toes? I thought they were black. What worried me is that it fell off a leaf about 50 centimeters from the ground. And now I don't know if it's slightly red abdomen is hurt or if that's who it is. Could you enlighten me? It is very smart.

So this will sound funny buuuut: I have only kept old worlds, since 2007. It started with an adult OBT a buddy in the Army got (wife freaked pet shop wouldnt take her, I adopted and fell in love with her personality)- since then I have done all Poecies, most of the Africans, and a few Asians- and all purchased as juvies or adults. Back story aside, I recently adopted a few slings (a C. Cyan - my first new world ever[quite backwards I know ^^, decided if I was getting one it would be sling up - and am wondering what those small little clear rectabgle boxes/enclosires are called? I am used to Exoterra's for my big girls and boys! When we git our Sling/s (we added a Tanzanian Dwarf to keep the OW trend going), always wanted to try them out in a communal but want to get used to personality first (a must for any OW, take note!), and both slinfs came in/with the little tiny clear rectangle/cube terrariums, but I would like to find some for sale in various shapes/sizes, as I am now unfortunately in love with slings. This is now a problem especially, (and thank the Tanzanian of the two ironically- personality). Unsexed but its quite the little zippy charector! Lol. I would like to add a few more of those as they grow, at various stages pre exoterra, and for other future slings to have preset homes. The Tanzanian Bronze will most likely only be rehoused one more time, two at most, unless I get more for a communal approach. If I do though, it would moat likely not be that one particularly because of risk (its now used to *its own space being its own*.) All T's demand respect- but OWs especially. Even the craziest like one of my P. Murinus (of all the OW's, right?!?!?), I could if I wanted: work in there with her, and she would just watch. (I wont Im not dumb. But shes used to me. I just know better because she can teleport/swap moods as fast). Thanks in advance!
