I have Parry-Romberg syndrome I guess too rare to mention but I should qualify as one of "these people" No you can not imagine the pain, but that is okay because it's insulting when people try or feel sorry for us it makes us feel less human and that hurts worse. We don't want to be told we are brave. we want to feel like we are normal.
@xbl155ful
@xbl155ful 6 лет назад
ReisterJP First I m sorry if saying 'these people' offended you, it was a poor choice of words, I just meant generally I felt sorry for all the people in the video. Secondly, no I guess I can't imagine the pain you or anyone else feels and I know it's impossible to fully comprehend and I believe it would be a lot worse than I could ever imagine. Third, no they are not normal, because normal means you take things for granted, normal means you can walk anywhere and not have people looking at you weird and asking 'whatever wrong with you' and yes I've experienced adults coming to me asking me what's wrong with my son when I was in public with him numerous times when he was alive. Normal means you don't have to worry about if places are wheelchair accessible or make sure you have the right medication and equipment with you at all times to function, normal means having independence and freedom. No, everyone that has a rare disorder is beyond normal in what they have to experience.The odds are never in your favor yet you have to be brave, resilient and preservere against it.

I think it's one the THE rarest, too. Like, aren't there currently only two family on the entire planet that have it? I wonder if putting them into medically-induced coma's frequently would help? Like where you're given a steady dose of (usually Phenobarbital) a barbiturate to keep you in a coma for x amount of time. Surely they couldn't stay awake through ANYTHING. Like some drug used in high enough doses must shut them down.

I had a step daughter , that had Aquagenic Urticaria. I ended up in the hospital 3 years ago with a very rare autoimmune disease , it is called, Transverse Myelitis and Neuromyelitis Optica. Transverse myelitis usually affects both sides of the body below the affected area of the spinal cord, but sometimes there are symptoms on just one side of the body.

To anyone who has a disease:If somone thinks your a freak or different because of how you look or sound like,then they're wrong.Your unique and beautiful in your own way and if nobody can see that then look at yourself in the mirror.If you still feel the same way then,look a little closer,get a better mirror because if somebody tells you that your ugly,a mistake,or hideous than go straight to them and tell them that they were wrong because they have to know that they were and still are wrong.

Naatta - It's amazing what genetics are helping us uncover. My little brother was very severely disabled (he passed away 18 years ago at the age of 10) and as a result, I grew up surrounded by families with severely disabled kids. I remember thinking it was weird to see families that didn't know how to buy a custom wheelchair, lol. But one of the other kids from my mom's support group who passed away was the only kid ever known to have his particular genetic flaw. They've not heard of another one since, either, and he passed on 15 years ago.

@WatchMojo if you ever make another video on rare diseases, it would really mean a lot if you could include Oculo-Dento-Digital Dysplasia (ODDD), in your video. Only 1 in 10 million people are diagnosed with it. I have several people in my family who suffer from this disease, and there really isn't any awareness of/about it, due to it's rarity.

I know this video is older, but even old WatchMojo videos get a lot of views. For those of you who are watching and wondering how to help people with diseases like this, please consider donating to the Global Genes Project. It's a charity devoted to rare genetic diseases, which most of the things listed here are. They figure that most rare diseases are poorly known and don't raise much funding on their own. This way, people can donate to a central charity and they fund research for all kinds of rare diseases. The vast majority of those with rare genetic diseases die before ever reaching adulthood. Places like the Global Genes Project hope to help fix that. Rare Disease Day is always the last day in February, so for the adults reading this, please consider doing a workplace donation of $1-5 in exchanging for wearing jeans (get the pun?) on the last day of February.

FOP errors- first off, it doesn't "sometimes" result in fused joints. It ALWAYS results in fused joints. The only variety there is how quickly they wind up fused. My friend with it isn't even 40 and her only functional joint is her jaw. She uses a motorized wheelchair and is lifted using a sling and a mechanical lift (the extra bone adds to the weight of an already full grown adult, plus any injury can be catastrophic, so it's not worth trying to lift them manually) to get to bed or the toilet. Her body is fixed in a setting position, so they must put pillows under her legs at night to help reduce the pain of her legs being stuck in the air. Secondly, it doesn't require an injury for the issue to happen. It can flare up all on its own. It does love to flare up following any kind of muscular injury, including something as small as an injection, but it can just randomly flare up up out the clear blue and lock an entire limb in place before settling down again. Third, it's not a problem with the bones or ligaments, as implied here. It's a muscular disease. It is, in fact, the only known disease where one organ (skeletal muscle) literally turns into another organ (bone).

I have ocular facial cardiac and dental syndrome, and my six-year-old daughter was born with antibody platelet deficiency disorder! We did not find out until the day after she was born and the doctors had to take blood to do an ultrasound to see if the bleeding on her brain from in uteral had stopped. If we didn’t do that she probably would not be here now.

While Field's Disease only has two known cases, ribose-5-phosphate isomerase deficiency only has one known case, making that one the rarest known disease.

I have a rare condition called congenital bilateral radiolulnar synostosis. There are 365 recorded cases in the world. It’s a symptom of Epiphysial Dysplasia. Normally for a child to have the condition both parents must have the condition, neither of my parents do!

W!ld Thing - If that kind of thing is interesting to you, two different rabbit holes you can vanish down in terms of reading are Huntington's Disease and RSD/CRPS. Last I checked, both of their Wikipedia pages were even fairly accurate, though that could have changed since I last bothered to look. ALS (US)/Motor Neuron Disease (UK) is also a fascinating disease worthy of some reading time.

Common variable immune deficiency (CVID) is a disorder that impairs the immune system. People with CVID are highly susceptible to infection from foreign invaders such as bacteria, or more rarely, viruses and often develop recurrent infections, particularly in the lungs, sinuses, and ears.
