I say to people, please dont think a cult is small and only has one leader. A cult can have 10 million members with a handful of leaders at the top who claim they get spiritual food from god which they feed to their followers !
@Alex Carlson He didn't say he was atheist. You do not need to join a cult to believe the universe has a creator. And i highly doubt you were ever an atheist. You probably were raised Christian but then rejected it, not out of any logic or reasoning but because you didn't like the strict rules(which is understandable). Then you fall into some tough times in life and jumped right back to what you were originally indoctrinated into. You say Jesus helped you, how do you know that? Did he show himself and tell you?

About the progression system, the cult I was in would only let you progress so far if you were a woman they would deny it at first but it becomes obvious pretty fast
oh my gosh...they all operate the same way.Multi level marketing uses the identical techniques to the cults. progression, shaming, celebrating the few , using a few people as 'poster children', suggesting that your lack of success is due to your own sloth and that if you work harder, give more, spend more money...you'll be just like the 'A Team'etc! THe thing is we are all God's A team when we accept Christ as Lord!

My mum brought me up in cult. When I left a lot of the people my mum included didn’t like it and still don’t. I feel a lot more happier now than I ever was. I was brought up never to think for myself. It was always you can’t do this or that it’s wrong.
How about"you must be a member of and be baptised in this church to go to heaven".or saying the higher ups in that organization have power from God to ban you from Heaven if they decide you're not good enough to live in the Kingdom after death

I've been quite fortunate that, even though I was sometimes willing to join a cult, something always seemed off... maybe the instant friends... So I never wound up joining.
*Personality Cult Leaders* - Thank you very much for this concise list. We must continue both to warn The Body of Christ - and those who have been ensnared and spiritually abused by such people - and where we can, to offer support to those who have had their eyes opened due to this information and the work of The Holy Spirit, and feel foolish for being deceived. A part of our ministry at Global Vision TV (and at Bethel Communications) is warning the Church about false teachers, shepherds and prophets - per The Lord Jesus Christ's warnings in the Olivet Discourse and elsewhere in The Bible. We teach about the cults; - how to identify them and how to spot a 'personality' cult - ie one that follows its leader blindly and never checks that what they are saying is true. These Personality Cult Leaders will try and separate their followers from their Church and certainly do all they can to discredit other good and legitimate ministries, most often naming these ministries in the same breath as ones which are indeed truly awful and have been discredited by many other legitimate ministers. This is so that they will trust and follow ‘The Leader’ alone. And woe betide any person or ministry which dares to expose the wicked workings of such a man - he will hunt them down until they are totally discredited in the eyes of his followers. And of course, there’s the money… these Leaders rely on you sending them your gifts and offerings and to buy their materials - sometimes offering free stuff to reel them in first of course. Another trick to try and gain credibility, is to claim that other loved and respected Bible teachers were his friends - however no legitimate and Godly ministry will hold hands with such a man - and if you check, you will usually find that the named ministers are no longer with us. In certain circles, well oved and respected names commonly bandied around would be Dave Hunt, David Pawson, Chuck Missler, David Wilkerson, Tim LaHaye, Derek Prince and so on. Having known 3 of these men personally, I have heard their names mentioned by one particularly vile Personality Cult Leader - knowing all the while that none of them could or would tolerate him - when they were alive! It is mainly Christians who are young in the faith or don't KNOW The Word of God who are taken in by such a person - principally because they don't know how to discern by using Galatians chapter 5 for example - the fruit of the flesh and the sinful nature - versus the Fruit of The Holy Spirit. These dear souls will instead make excuses for the carnal nature of such a man, seeing his reviling and ranting as 'zeal for The Lord', and not realising that he teaches heresy, makes huge errors with his Greek and Hebrew (if he is narcissistic, he will make a thing about his ‘knowledge’ of languages), they always rake in the money by plugging their books etc - all the while saying they don’t take a penny and that it goes into the ministry (which usually IS him!) but far, far worse, such a person will do Satan’s work by trying to destroy the Godly ministries which expose him. Personality Cult Leaders are always bullies and often misogynistic with an unhealthy interest in sexual matters, totally inappropriate for men of God to speak about. Such a person will usually tell elaborate and uncouth lies… the list goes on and on - and his followers will virtually worship him and think he is a gift from God. In one way he is, as The Lord continues the testing and sifting as each one of us makes the choice as to whom we will serve. The Lord Jesus Christ - or the personality cult leader. We can’t do both. Cult,are those who follow the evil, who don't have love for no one, who invented to hurt your self and hurt those who don't agreed with them, who can not support to see people happy. Awesome vid. I was in a church cult (the ICOC or International Church of Christ) for over a decade. They fit every one of these signs to the T. I talk about my experience in the cult plus the spiritual recovery journey on my channel. I love the "insta-friend" wording as I have always heard it referred to as "love-bombing" but "Insta-friend" sounds more relateable to the everyday person's experience. I speak out because what a CULT is tends to be misunderstood and needs information like the one in this video to bring public awareness. The pushback comes from when people make the connection to these traits being bigger than just JWs or Scientiology or in my case the ICOC. It shakes their sense of security. But thanks for sharing.
i joined joined a cult in october 2018 brother api got me in who i didnt know brother issac is the cult leader brother nep brother bonnie brother andrew and 3 sisters elisa karla and issacs wife so 10 members including me this is what evil strategies they were using on me while i was there from october manipulation shunning backstabbing backbiting arrogance from them against me fear tactics mind control attempts that never worked cuz i control my own mind they were using all those things against me so 9 against 1 bunch of bullies for a number of reasons they only wanted me there for the hell of it and incase i tried to escape which i have for less than 2 weeks as im writing this
i forgot to mention brother jesse now i can take each brother down in a fight 1 on 1 more than likely so they know my weakness is more psychological and thats wat cults do they get inside your weaest psy point and attack it with watever weapons they can use there is no love in an occult i never saw it once there is no acceptance they are all god damn arrogant they all know where i live and wat my number is wat they are doing is illegal but if i attack each member brother member 1 on 1 beat the living daylights out of it they call the cops for assault so its a catch 22
Hi Kelly. That's genuinely a difficult question as it comes down to the person, but the best way is to ask questions and to refrain from arguments, (not saying you are having arguments, obviously) and just gently question their beliefs. If you were there at the group and something made you feel uncomfortable, gently voice your concerns, question their behaviour if it's out of character or odd, but try to be as gentle as possible. Kyle van Rensburg that does help a lot. I’m in a difficult situation as this person is not only my boss, but also I consider her a great friend. Increasingly more and more she will say things to me that make me very uncomfortable about the group she’s with and more specifically her group leader, who believes that the world is conspiring against us and that we are surrounded by spirits who dictate our behaviour... she believes that the weather is being controlled by the government to confuse people. As a lifelong skeptic and person of science, when she says these things it literally feels like I’m hearing nails scratch down a chalkboard... I just nod and smile but I feel more and more like she’s trying to challenge me with these beliefs and I feel like one day I may have to confront her if she keeps pushing these beliefs on me. How would you handle the situation if it were you??
The most important thing is to first take care of yourself and then try to help the other person. If she gets overbearing, rather establish boundaries and then try to help. I've tried to help someone out of a cult when they were emotionally abusing me and it only made things worse on both ends. Obviously, this is not what I'm implying is happening there as I don't know all the details but do take note if it sounds similar. :) Nevertheless, it's good that she's talking about her beliefs as it could mean that she's wanting to share them and knowing what a person believes helps a lot to determine how to approach someone. It sounds similar to the kind of things I used to believe in, but my indoctrination was a whole lot more severe. It's not impossible, however, to help a person out of it, so long as you keep your boundaries but maintain support and be open about what you believe in. I was surrounded by people who gently questioned my beliefs while painstakingly tolerating them at the same time and it helped a lot as to help me out of my cult of thought and to become a more reasonable and better person. So just being yourself and being the friend you already are can make a huge difference. Love and empathy do a great deal to unravel undue influence.
I was a member of a small Calvinist church exactly like this... heavy leadership... they “expected “ everyone to be at the Bible study and after church meals... exclusivity... almost every point in this video describes the church I was attending
Exactly! Calvinism is a cult. If you try to call them out they just say "You don't understand Calvinism!" I hope Calvinism hasn't hurt you too bad. God is not the narcissistic tyrant that Calvinism makes him out to be.

It’s weird, I find in AA half the time it’s really caring loving people who run an organization with a lot of the appearances of a minor cult and the other half of the time you get people who really ressemble hypocritical christians. Whatever, if the good groups keep me sober then I can ignore the cult aspects cause they don’t hold any control over my life.
I got sucked into a G12 cult when I was a young adult. I still find it difficult to enter a church many many years later. It really messes with a person. Thanks for the video warning people of the signs

lily of the valley - I went to Bible College and once I realized that G12 was a cult, I stopped attending and started making friends elsewhere. I highly recommend doing some research on cults and how they trap and control people and also getting some counselling. Cults are good at attracting those of us who are vulnerable due to childhood trauma. It’s not easy leaving but it’s so worth it. I wish you well on your journey.
lily of the valley - you can talk to a leader but I’ll warn you that they’ll likely treat your suspicion as a lack of faith and shame you for it. You’re not a bad Christian for thinking of leaving - there’s so much more to Christianity than their narrow and unhealthy version of it (I have a BA in theology). There are many lovely churches out there that don’t try to control their members. It’s important to lean on any social supports you have that are not part of the cult and be compassionate with yourself. Once you are ready to confront any abuse you may have suffered, find someone trustworthy to talk to about it. You’re not alone. There are many G12 survivors out there and some cities even have support groups. It gets better

I belong to the church and that is what I am starting to notice. I grew up in the church and a few days ago I found out something that has changed my whole world upside down. I am devastated. I believed in a "man of God". I trusted him but what I found out has completely crushed my spirit. The thing now is that I don't know how I will be able to get out. I am afraid to tell my parents. I am going to keep going to church even though I no longer believe in the church and the man that leads it. I still do believe in God but my whole life has been a lie. I wasted my childhood and my teenage years.

Neither can I. I used to think, are we reading the same bible? Now I don't go to church at all. I still believe, but not through someone else's eyes. I've got eyes,ears and a Holy Spirit if my own. I don't even believe in any pastors, ministers etc. Why do we need an all wise man, telling us about our own God. It makes no sense.
I hate tgoughts suppressed. This is why i will never ever join a religious group. It is fun to talk to different kinds of religious people. See their view .But i do no not ever want my thoughts or opinions limited by others. Rather alone than being dictated.
This is exactly what every job is like. Theres always the boss and hierarchy and i really think working for corporations is extremely similar to being in a cult.
Hi Ryno. Not necessarily, a toxic work environment is a cult, yes, but hierarchy by itself doesn't make a group a cult. That would mean any form of human socialisation is inherently cult-like. Then again, I'm not oblivious to the severe abuse that often happens to people in companies. I've been mistreated at many jobs so I'm always cautious of which company I work with.
There is also another Cult name Iglesia ni Cristo ( Church of Christ ) 1914 of the Philippines denies the deity of Christ and the Trinity, their founder Felix Manalo claimed he was an angel or messenger sent by God, they claim they are the only true church on earth and the way to salvation. they have many churches in the US and around the world.
No disrespect intended, but the New Testament documents the early church doing _all_ these things to one degree or other, especially (but not only) the Book of Acts and the Letters of Paul.

More could certainly be said, but I didn't wish to write a scholarly paper! lol 10. *Loaded language* -Paul in particular uses _justification_ in a way unknown to previous Hebrew religion and possibly more akin to other, first century mystery religons. _Salvation_ , _saviour_ , _redemption_ and even _messiah_ , additionally, are reinterpreted along new lines; ie, none of these (and other) words are used by their then "dictionary" definitions, but instead are used according to the in-speak of the believers. 9. *Insta-friends* -Paul, the alledged murderer of Christians, was welcomed immediately into the congregation at Antioch. One could even say that Jesus himself did not merely preach but befriended new and prospective converts, often "tax collectors and sinners" who were outcasts and welcome nowhere else. 8. *Exclusivity* -It is evident that the entirety of the early Christian message, especially as preached by Paul, is that Christianity has a unique grasp on truth, and that people outside the group are lost. Even late in Acts, as schisms begin to appear between gentile and Jewish believers, exclusivity manifests itself even between Christian groups. 7. *Too Many Rules* -The above mentioned schism was, in fact, due to Paul's failing to impose upon gentile believers all the rules that the hebraic early disciples required. This matter of rules for gentile Christians erupted in a dispute that had to be addressed in Acts by a council of the apostles to attempt to resolve it. (I say _attempt_ because Paul's subsequent epistles and the first chapter of Revelation years later still complain of all the rules being imposed by the "judaizers.") Even if they attempted to correct this, it clearly existed. 6. *Thoughts Suppressed* -Without being exhaustive, the first example I thought of is Paul's exhortation to _put on the full armour of God_ in Ephesians 6:10-18. If you read to passage, what else can it mean but willfully excluding certain thoughts from one's mindset while reinforcing approved ones? 5. *Salvation Redefined* -I touched on this above in point 10., but this is at the heart of the early (and current) Christian message: _messiah_ and _saviour_ are drastically redefined from the "Old Testament" original meaning and belief, as are key concepts such as _covenant_ and _chosen people_ and _kingdom of God_ and so on. While the New Testament writers, especially Paul, go to great lengths to explain these changes, this is objectively no different from today's sects doing the same. Matthew's gospel even goes so far as to apply entirely new meanings to out-of-context quotes from Old Testament "prophecies." Paul, in the early chapters of Romans, goes to casuistic lengths to show that the old Law as understood was incorrect, and this new revelation was the correction. How many times in the Sermon on the Mount did Jesus quote the Old Testament with "You have heard it said unto you..." only to contradict it with "but _I_ say unto you..."? Again, I am only touching on a much broader topic. Redefining salvation is, of course, the point of the New Testament. 4. *Goody Two Shoes* -Ananaias and Sapphira spring to mind, as does Peter, who had to be rebuked as a hypocrite publically by Paul, the same Paul who at length blows his own horn and rebukes his readers "because he cares so much" in 2 Corinthians. 3. *Money Crazy* -Paul and his gigantic collection he takes up in Acts and the epistles: sure he claims it's for a good cause, but don't they all? And how often does he need to bring it up? And remind me, because I may be remembering wrong, but doesn't he at some point address those who suggest he may be mishandling it? (And in context, what was the point of the Ananaias and Sapphira story, after all?) 2. *Progression System* -I cannot think of NT examples of this exactly, but there does seem to be a parallel, but segregated, leadership structure for gentile Christian in Acts. The original Jewish believers certainly expected them to he circumsized before baptism: this could possibly be construed as a progression system of _God-fearers_ to _circumcised_ to _baptised_ as imposed by at least some factions of NT Christianity. 1. *Cults Abuse* -There are not a lot of close up views in the NT of individual believers other than the leadership, but...Philemon being sent back to his master and slavery, and appealing to his faith as a justification for this, seems pretty creepy. Telling women, in 1 Corinthians, what to do with their hair and veils, not to teach but to listen, and to obey their husbands as they would Christ, seems pretty cult-like, as does the recommendation, also in 1 Corinthians, for married people to abstain from sex. 1 Corinthians in particular seems pretty controlly. Now, I totally anticipate someone might say, "Well, all these things may be, but the Gospel is a new revelation, a new message from God," but isn't that precisely what makes it a cult?
Thanks for replying in full. :) Pardon my late reply, as I've only now noticed that you've commented. 10 - Remember that Loaded Language is meant to bring about exclusion and mind control; it doesn't mean a word that's used in a religion. Otherwise my videos could be cults since they would also have some "reinterpretation" of words? 9 - Fake friends meant to bring you in and convert you, not real friends. This item isn't meant in the most literal sense. 8 - This means that you shun other people and think you're better than them. Any belief system views itself as having answers others don't. It doesn't inherently make it a cult. Even atheism could be considered a cult under this definition. 7 - There were unfortunately schisms in the book of Acts, but I need you to provide me with better sources as to your claims of Paul imposing as many rules. 6 - That's a very severe interpretation of it. 5 - Give examples as to which sects do the same. This doesn't make Christianity a cult; a new religious movement would be then be a cult. 4 - They all had their issues yes, but you need to be more specific about Paul "blowing his own horn" in Corinthians 2. Peter was pretty hypocritical and did need the rebuke, as well as Ananaias and Sapphira. 3 - Source about Paul, please. Also note that churches making money isn't the problem, the abuse of it is. Your claim about Paul lying about his intentions is non-falsifiable. You can't prove that he had bad intentions, nor I can I disprove it. (Unless you give me a good source.) 2 - Not the progression system I was referring to. 1 - Slavery was different back then, but further along in the New Testament we also see Paul commanding people not to become slaves if they can and there were restrictions placed on slavery in the Old Testament. I think you also misunderstood the abstaining from sex part, as 1 Corinthians 7 actually gives the opposite commandment - save for when you need to fast. Some cults believe in hell, some don't. That's what I was trying to across at that point. Westboro Baptist Church most definitely is a cult and tries to scare people into believing their hyper-judgmental ideals, which I said right after that statement about JW and Seventh Day Adventists not believing in hell.

After spending some time watching some of their videos, I have seen behaviors in these communities that seem very much like a cult.. Along with supporters of Donald Trump. How do you reach these people? Any suggestions because I'm trying and I don't know if it's working...
i'm honestly more worried about SJW & Postmodernism than that mostly because not many are noticing it the Red Pill & MGTOW community is fairly small, they actually isolate themselves Postmodernism & SJW mentality spreads through facets of culture like Art mediums & academia in the art mediums, first it was literature, then it was games, now it's comics, pretty soon it's going to be movies & series academically they've ruined global warming, social studies & soon biology as well as it's increassingly shifted in this direction

@@Bankable2790 thank you. There is so much brainwashed pressure from addicts and non addicts that 12 step groups are the only answer to addiction. That's why I kept attending even tho I was mistreated and traumatized. The fear of leaving the group is so ingrained that I still am scared and I left it over a year ago.
I do not think this applies to all of them. Some are more loving than some churches, and my sponsor had insights into why I did what I did. This helped greatly. My current group gives me insight into my upbringing by 2 narcissistic parents.
I have to disagree-I been in a 12 step group for years, and the meetings I go to are very loving, no judgement, open minded. You probably had a bad experience. I live in the city, so the meetings are huge and they are all over the place. But, I can imagine if you live in a more isolated area some of those groups can be somewhat cultish. Theres this group in NY city called Atlantic Group, that group I stay away from as they seem cultish to me. The members and the chair person are probably what gave you a bad experience. But, the design of the the 12 step program itself is not cultish at all, but there are people that deliver a false 12 step message. Not much different from a false prophet, you just have to find where you fit, and I have a good ear for BS. So, if I sense a meetings leaders are overly preaching about what I need to do etc, that meeting isn't for me.
