My hat is off to you for presenting your top twelve Willie Nelson studio records. Willie Nelson has been a major influence in my life in many respects, for many years, and this video inspires me to make a video along similar lines. Thanks You!

Thank you for the kind words! Helping spread the word about his music, especially albums not necessarily widely known, is always fun.

Interesting list. Did not think you were going to place Phases and Stages as your top pick. That's my #2. Both Sides Now is quite underrated.

I just recently discovered Phases and Stages. It really is a fantastic album. I'll have to check out Tougher Than Leather. I've never heard that one. My familiarity with Willie is primarily from hearing his hits on the radio in the 80's, but never really any whole albums until I bought Spirit and then Teatro on CD.

Thanks for the reply! TTL is a solid album, I overlooked it for far too long. I started with one of those discount hits packages years ago and delved deeper from there. The amount of great material he has is staggering.

@@brettsmusicreviews2641 I just listened to TTL a little while ago. You're correct. It's full of great songs. I had never heard Changing Skies or Little Old Fashioned Karma or I Am the Forest before and instantly fell in love with them.

Red Headed at #5 says a lot about Willie’s discography, lol. I would have to put it #1. Not because I want to, just because I have to, lol. But hey, I salute you, not easy to rank Willie’s many amazing records.

I wanted to do a top ten but couldn't whittle it down! Ranking is so subjective, really. It's all about what speaks most to us :) BTW, if Redheaded Stranger weren't your number one, what would be?

Phases and stages taught me that willie is as great as anyone ever was

Same! I had plenty of his work already, but listening to that for the first time was a revelation. His capacity to mine human emotions is exceptional.

Very interesting choices. Very. I'm in the dark about some of these. Country Music sounds fantastic even though I'm not a big fan of T Bone Burnett's generally gauzy production, but that's a crackerjack lineup. I've seen Tougher Than Leather many times, but never picked it up as I've only seen it given two or three stars (like that matters). I just love Me and Paul and I'm glad you include it. That's a great, fun album and I find a terrific introductory record for the loosely initiated. No argument on your order. Teatro is genius and equal credit to Emmylou and Daniel Lanois for making this such a vibey masterpiece. Spirit is maybe my favourite. That album makes me an emotional wreck every time, so I seldom listen to it. So pure and from the gut. I have neither Teatro or Spirit on vinyl unfortunately. The only omission I'd have included (and high) is Stardust. Even though he didn't write any of them, he made those standards his own to the point I only think of his when I hear any other version. It was a wonderfully unexpected follow up to RHS that keeps with his Outlaw and pure artist drive. But as you say, it's all subjective. It's the record that my then 8 year old son would play at night after my marital breakup when his bed was an air mattress in front of the thrift store stereo in our crappy single dad apartment. A great vid and I'm sorry you're going through this rough period. My heart goes out to you my friend.

Tougher Than Leather is such a back-to-basics album that I just immediately fell for it once I started listening. Critics were unkind but it came on the heels of Always On My Mind, a smash for Willie but one of my least favorites, honestly. They were bound to not like it and in typical Willie Nelson fashion, he didn't care *lol* Stardust is one I appreciate for what it is but I haven't ever really connected to it. You have a deep, emotional connection and that helps you appreciate it more. That's something I understand 100% :) I appreciate the well-wishes, your support means a lot. Life is full of ups and downs, and there'll be plenty of ups again once the dust settles!
