Every time I see new fry, I place them in the same large plastic tool box (55 gal). There are hundreds in there all born a different times - none of them are adults. I live on a tropical island, so all my tanks and containers are outside under a large canopy. My biggest problem is catching the darn things. As they get older, they can spot a net a mile away. 😆
where did you buy that brand corner filter, im setting up 20 gallon tank for guppy fry, sand with plants, have adult guppies in 65 gallon sand planted tank, with laterite underneath the sand, sword plants grow fast.thanks joe h

I breed African cichlids and am the QLDAF forum as well. I raise my fry in a 4ft tank and do 20% water changes everyday. My filtration is 2 large sponge filters and a 2500lph canister filter as well as a small internal filter. My fry still seem to grow at a steady (slow) rate. Any suggestions?
+kanga walaroo this is a video on how and what I feed them to get them to grow fast and to their full potential : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-U6qzUXSQyW0.html
Uri Shasha I feed them new life spectrum sinking pellets morning and night, the tank is bare bottom so the food eventually sinks to the bottom were it is not affected by the flow and is visible for the fry to nibble on. The species that they are take 2 years to reach sexual maturity. I believe for guppys it is something like 3 weeks? Good this simply be the reason, the species naturally grow slowly? What are your thoughts?
so if you keep them in the breeders area for more then a few weeks, will they not grow right? My molly fry have been in that small tank for about a month. I had no idea you had to move them. I will be moving them into there own tank today.
My Molly had her fry today and I scooped them out :D, not too long ago I let previous fry into the main tank. I found 13 and managed to save 13! Quite a bit proud
Hi, does the pump of the aquarium kill frys? Cos I left them in my breeding container for abt 3 wks and got myself a new tank, transferred 6 of them to that new tank but still used quite a portion of water of that tank from my main tank. However, the moment I spotted 3 died, I put the other 3 back in the breeding container ASAP. I do not know why they died cos I set this internal filter + pump to the lowest lvl but the bubbles are still rather violent. And it is because I saw your vid that is bad to leave them in the container (my is the marina external breeding box M size), I got a new tank but seems like the new tank kills them instead.
+lumlee its hard too tell why they died. It can be that it was because of the filter. If the filter is too strong, the fry might get sucked by it or loose energy fighting the strong current.
So it is a possibility of strong current as well? I only take into consideration water quality as this filter is just a transparent pump with sponge inside blowing upwards. Comes with the this new smaller tank I bought just to raise these frys. Dimension is (30cm X 21 cm x 25 cm). While my main tank is having the adults and its a 3.5 ft tank.
i was currently using a breeder boxfor my fish to grow i originally had 30 babies but some have died, i moved them into a 4 galloon tank and now 10 remain. they only swim to the top together and don't seem like they want more gallonage they seem to want less.
Can you explain why I shouldn't use the breeding box? I found 3 guppy frys in my tank (I got some female guppies and I guess one of them was pregnant) and I've been housing them in a hatchery/breeding box for the last 2 days. I don't have a spare tank and don't think I can get one either. What do you suggest I do?
two main reasons: 1. fry need space to swim around as in nature, this is essential for their devlopment. those breeding box are way too small. 2. fry need good water quality, those breeding boxes have small holes which barely allow fresh water to come in and waste to come out. this eventually cause fry to get sick and die. the best way to grow properly those fry is to have another tank, if you can't get another tank, i suggest that you get many plants, rocks, etc. to provide hiding places and free those fry. hopefully they will survive.
+Uri Shasha What if I put them in a 5 gallon bucket and change the water frequently, say, every 2-3 days? I do have lots of plants and hiding spaces and floating plants. I don't want to release them though... I use a turkey to clean the mess from the breeding box too.
cheesefriday that's better than leaving them in the breeding box. Make sure to do partial water change about 30% every 2-3 days and clean waste from the bottom of the bucket. Hopefully this will work for the next 4-5 weeks and than you can move them back to the main. rank.
+Uri Shasha thank you!! Just want to update you: I found 3 more fry in my main tank so that makes 5 fry in total. I moved them to a 5 gallon bucket with cat tongue floating plants, driftwood with Java moss, a heater, and a makeshift sponge filter (I got a top fin filter cartilage from Petsmart and stuck a air stone in it. Put the whole thing in a betta cup and weighed the sponge down with rocks/pebbles - is that a good makeshift filter?). I will definitely do water changes and bottom clean up as you suggested :) Again, thank you for the video and your quick responses!!!!
Why do you recommend keeping different spawns separately? Ive had several but they are all in the same tank. 20 gallon, i take them out when they are big enough and give them away or sell them. I also leave all the moms in there. There are many hiding places for the fry. I just got tired of them birthing fry in my other tanks and losing the fry.
They can be kept with other broods or even with their parents and still leave, I even do it myself from time to time when I am running out of place for them (you can check out other videos i have on this), but for getting the best results in terms of survival rate and growth rate it is best to raise each brood separately and after few weeks separate the males from the females
Im having a hard time sexing them. I have some that are around 6 weeks i think. I didnt keep track when the first guppy had her fry. When should i be able to tell them apart? I can tell the adults apart fairly easily since i bought them that way. And thank you for such a quick reply. I just found your channel tonight and have already watched a few videos. Great information. Im now a fan.
Sorry for the spam but unfortunately 1 survived i have taken him out on a mug what do i do he is free moving but not eating neither is my 1 week old one is moving also should i keep them together?
I currently have a baby guppy that does not seem to be growing at all.. I only managed to save 3 at the time, which I scooped out and put into a seperate container. overnight 2 died (my guess was too cold of water temperature). I now have one guppy fry (2 months old and about a centimeter long from head to tail) in a container taped to the side of the tank so his water will be at the same temperature as the main tank... but I can't think of a better setup without having to buy a new tank, heater, filter, etc for one guppy fry. he's eating every day a mixture of crushed bloodworms and powdered guppy food (seafood mixture) and I'm changing the water weekly... help?
+Nikki Sumner if you can't have another setup, I think the best option is to release it to the main tank, of course you need to make sure you have as much as possible hiding places for the fry to hide. Hopefully it will survive Also, I recommend watching this video as well ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NNQORVhI1t4.html
Uri Shasha thanks for the advice, I had considered the option of releasing him to the main tank but as of right now I have 6 guppies a Betta and a pleco in that tank (5 gallon) so I didn't think his chances of survival would be that great even with many plants... I also have a 10. gallon with 6 large female bettas... but If he isn't going to mature at all I suppose that is the only other option
My guppy fry are hiding inside the gravel...the adult male and female keep chasing them when they come out. I just sprinkles pellets all over the tank so it reaches them..is this a good idea
So my molly fish just had babies, I didn't realize she was pregnant. But she had alot of babies but I only have 3. They are in a mesh breeding tank thing. Do you think they will be ok? I'm so nervous they are going to die. I have been keeping an eye on them.
The breeding nets are ok for the 2-3 weeks. You will then need to move tyem to a larger tank or release them to the main tank. In this case you will need to add many floating plants and other hiding places so they will survive
I have a fry-tank for my baby-guppies. They grow fast and they eat like crazy. Strange thing is that one of the fry is about two times as large as the others, but they were born the same night. For birth control I have one female Dwarf Gurami, she hunts the fry and she is very good at it. I always save the ones that are able to survive for a few days, survival of the fittest or the smartest .... I feed them JBL fry food for guppies and crushed flakes (Tetra+Vitakraft). I do daily waterchanges between 10-15%, use Easylife (liquid filter media) and another waterconditioner. (to remove Chlorine).
really? I always do my best to make sure every fry gets a chance to live, being trapped in a closed space with a blood thirsty killer after just being born seems a little awful in my opinion .-.
yea, ofcourse it's survival of the fittest in the wild because they need to eat to survive, but having them forced into a closed space together is kind of a dick move "population-control" is pretty crappy if thats how it works just give them away to freinds or something instead of killing them, infact even the way he worded the gourami part made him sound like a jerk twords animals
i have 7 fry in a breeder box since September 5th and the tank is 29G; you mentioned i should not keep them in the breeder box longer than a week? What should i do with them?
@@UriShasha yep, i have 10 Albino Cory's 4 neon tetras and 3 snails :) i guess i'm impatient LOL so they are ok to be in the breeder box longer than a week?
I have a tank for my guppy fish fry, but I have switched to keeping some in the small containers (used for the pregnant female guppy) because they don't eat enough food and tend to die quickly. What should I do?
Well they're a couple weeks old and vary in size, I also have one that's really thin and doesn't seem to eat much, it's already starting to get some colour and it was born at the same time as my other fry which are about 1.3 cm or less in length. I'm worried that it'll die soon, has this happened to you before?
I have 8 week old and the black one are at least 4 times bigger than the rest. They still look like newborns. Is this normal. The all feed well and water condition is ideal. Please advise.
I have a 4.755 Gallon (18 Litre) Tub.. basically a Outdoor Balcony pond with a Waterfall, Stones and Pothos, I don't have A Filter or Oxygen Pump.. Can I raise Guppy Fry in such Set up?
@@UriShasha I live in The Southern Part of India.. We have monsoon season here. The Temperature during day is around 25°c to 30°c and a bit less during nights..
Hey these are very usefull tips for me..thanks, but can you please tell me how to use conditioners and salt and for what purpose...is it the conditioner that we use for our hair?
Uri Shasha hi I have never used salt before does it need to be a certain type of salt or will salt from my kitchen be okay? And how much salt to litres/gallons should I use?
Not saying your advice is wrong but I bought a 12 gallon tank I put 1 male 3 females and within a month I now have about 30 fish in their I keep my temperature at the correct 1 but feed 1 time a day and my fish do fine
+LiamSeymourVlogs glad to hear that. But, are they growing well? At one month age they should be about 1/2 inch long. Check out this one as well: fry grow rate- ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-m_unY6nAuGs.html
i feed fry those red green balls fish keeper gave me they r u nable to eat it its too big for them.i tried dried worms but htat too they r unable to eat what should i feed them.. \
+At if Sharif you can feed them crashed flakes food (use a well known brand, here is how to make it: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-U6qzUXSQyW0.html For speeding up their growth, use baby brine shrimp eggs as well: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2Bis9M6Gq9w.html
I have 10 fry in a 20 gallon long. They are all from the same spawn. 8 are growing and coloring fine, the other two look like new born fry, they are 6 weeks old!! Water changes 3x week, EXCELLENT food, repashy, BBS, and fry food from Hakari.... So...why do I have 2 that are not growing?? They are coloring up, but are not growing!! And I am not some newby....I have been a fish keeper for 25 plus years, over 375 gallons over 5 tanks....
I have the same issue. 8 weeks and the black one are at least 4x bigger than the others. I have 28 in the tank 15 are big and 13 still look like newborns. Is this normal.
I have a 20 gallons I have 500 girls 1 tank 20 gallons with boys init 10 gallons with baby's fry are getting so big little frys in breeder net what a nightmare
I feed the fry with both crushed flakes and live baby brine shrimp. Please watch this video as well - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-U6qzUXSQyW0.html Good luck
If your fry are in a breeder net then clean them, remove the nasty food. About food, what I did is I crush them with spoon and mix the tank water. Its easier for them to eat. I notice they grew fast just after 2 weeks.
+galaxy star not sure I understand your Q. You should buy adults which are the best looking=most healthy that you can find. Naybe this video will help: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qXAPtfOOMJU.html
+Kingdom OF K 0 you need oxygen source otherwise your fish will die. Instead of air pump you can use live plants. They oxnyite the water and also absorb waste
I have so many Guppies males females babies ones I started out with 4 or 5 now I have 500 im going to take them to the pet shop & trade for fish food &filter never seen o many before
i am not so sure about this video i have a net in my tank the fry when thy are born swim into my net and i take them out when i see thy are bigger takes about 5 weeks and thy are big and female give birth for 1st time all my fry get big and i mix the size of all of them i only split male from time to time to breed new blood into my guppy family
Brother, I have a planted tank that is 2 feet long and I do weekly water changes and provide high-quality food, but my guppy fish aren't growing well. 😢😢
Omg the saddest thing happened right now i slept last night and when i woke up today now all my frys are dead why did it happen so suddenly i took proper care im crying now
@@UriShasha umm i was afraid that the mother molly would eat them so i seperated the mother also the frys are mostly black and dont move much what do i do rhey lay on the bottom
It will work, but in order to achieve the best result: fry growing faster, all fry growth rate are the same, high survival rate,... i recommended following these tips
