Hi, good informations. An another thing that I found on my MTD, is the space between the second stage propelers and the drum. I had a distance of approximatly 0.5 in. Snow was trown only at 15 to 20 feet. I have added peace of rubber, on propelers, to close the gap to 1/8 of an inch. Now, snow is trown between 30 to 40 feet.
Yea impeller mods are great, I don't do many because my customers are paying me for service. I may do an impeller mod video on my own snowblower this season.
Everything on my blower seems to be working as it should, but when I push it into the snow I see a little snow throw out and then nothing. I would describe it as if the snow is too heavy for my snowblower - but I can confirm the snow is light, not wet, and my snowblower is a big one with auger blades (not rubber) and has worked with this same snow in the past. Any ideas as to why? Any help from anyone is appreciated.
I say Zee lol I don't even know how other Canadians pronounce it, or if it's accurate but that's how I say it lol you should hear people complain about the way I say Oregon haha thanks for watching Ken!
I also say zee that is what i was taught in grade 1 way back many many years ago when the school was heated with a wood stove. If we wanted a day off we threw a rubber boot in the stove.

Yes all well and good Mick. I got him all set up so he can join the lives, he does enjoy them. The weather is beautiful now, but sadly won't last past this week.
Had a good time on the KSE live but just do not have the time to sit down for extended periods of time, we are always booked up with service and repairs and customers always showing up for parts especially on the weekend when nobody else is open.
Yes fill ports, they make 2 because these engines are used in different applications. Sometimes one isn't accessible, so they make 2 so the other one always is. Make sure they stay tight!
The new models are built too cheap. I like my 35 year old Toro with steel rods to control the drive and auger/thrower impeller. They sure don't build them for what you pay anymore.
Even though I'll never have a chance to work on a snow blower it was a great video Jake. It was nice having your dad on Ken's Live Stream this morning, he's a character for sure. 🙂👍
@@Big_Johns I will try, the issue is even when I try to take a weekend off, it seems I'm working 6 days a week and then rushing on Sunday to get everything else done lol I don't have enough hours in the day! Maybe once the holidays come, we usually have a week or so when it slows down after Christmas
Good day Jake interesting video Ask your dad if that is my problem, I can't seem to throw snow as far no more either I guess I will have to check my belts. LOL Thanks
I hit a big stick a couple years ago and instead of sheering, the pins were half sheered but still in place. Instead the belt squealed and smoked for a few seconds before stalling the engine. Ever since I've had a vibration in the auger drive. I can't visually see any issue. Nothing looks bent or out of place. Very hard to diagnose without tearing the whole thing apart.
Start the engine, and put a small clamp on the auger lever like I did in the video. Then you can walk around to the front to have a look at the rotating assembly. I had a 3 stage come in and the front accelerator shaft had a slight bend to it causing a bit of vibration.
Nice simple well explained video Jake. Do not think too much about those plastic rims and plastic tires thought. Can you find out from your customer how it handles in the heavy wet snow for us subscribers?
Darn. Snowblower season. In order to preserve the auger gear case i usually take my Dremel with a cut off disc and cut 2/3 of the way through all the sheer pins. That way they break under much less stress. Of course sometimes I need to change 4 or 5 sheer bolts with each snowfall, but thats a small price to pay to keep the blower going. Okay. So I dont do anything so stupid but your video did make me think about my blower - gotta make sure its good to go. so thanks.
If your using the proper shear pins i do not think that is necessary. Some of our customers have been buying their shear pins at the big box stores and they are made in China and breaking way too easily and i have never seen a gear box go when using proper shear pins. But you have to be able to add 00 grease every now and then because the original lithium will be separated off to the sides and away from the brass or bronze gear in the middle.
@@waynestefinashen239 i have an older Honda and use gear oil - i level the machine and fill it until it drains out of the fill hole. Interesting about the non oem sheer pins- but of course my post was a joke to help with "engagement" on this channel i enjoy.
Hello, great video it's somethings I check every year when I do my yearly oil change and maintenance routine. I did the same thing Denis did to his snowblower auger this year my MTD is 26 years old and still looks and runs like new. Thanks for sharing with us and for all your help with keeping our equipment in good running order.
Good morning, not related to video question with ohv valve lash setting, is there a right and wrong way to set valves. Both valves closed on compression stroke or one valve fully closed and one open when setting on either cycle of engine?
@@EliminatorPerformance Need both . The ones that came with the snowblower are a round one with the number 3 on it and a hex one with the letter A on it
Ed i believe they came out with these a few years ago but this is the first one we have gotten to work on. Really with a plastic rim and tire i have some concerns on traction and stability during extreme cold.
I personally like the older models since i can access the carb and have it in the ultrasonic cleaner in 10 minutes max, with these it takes so much more time and we actually had one come in that required 24 bolts to be removed to get at the carb. Additionally the metal was so thin that reassembly of those bolts took forever just getting the holes to align.
