In Germany, they changed the name to "Demure Vix" (which I don't think means anything anymore) because the word "vixen" is a homophone (= word that sounds the same) of the German word "wichsen", which means "to jerk off". Not sure if "vix" is much better, because it now just sounds like an imperative instead, but well. lmao

Basically they came into Ulta looking for a new lip color and so I asked her what color family she was wanting (reds, pinks, or nudes) and when I said nudes she looked genuinely disgusted and said “who in their right mind would name something that?” And I almost burst out laughing 😭😭

I remember back in the 90's when Hard Candy was prestige and they named one of their polishes was sl*t or wh0*e and their main retailer Nordstrom told them to change the name or they refuse to sell it. The Nordstrom version had a different name while the original name was sold to other retailers with no problem.

If I'm remembering correctly there is a thrid shade in the original KVD line that was linked to uh....WWII activities I'll say in case it flags me. It was a reference to how certain people were chosen. I don't remember ever seeing the shade out in the wild (I think it was pink? Purple?) but that one always makes me clutch my pearls when it's brought up.

I remember when NARS wasn't available in Portugal my partner would buy their stuff for me in Milan and he would feel mortified and I would add a dirty shade name on purpose. And he would go to the sales rep and whisper the name ("Do you have Super Orgasm?" *sadly discontinued*), it would crack me up.

Deep Throat was named after the 1972 film of the same name starring Linda Lovelace. The fact that its an X-Rated film didn't make it any better saying it to people. If anyone seemed a little put off, i usually followed it up with "Francois Nars is French and the French aren't afraid to be bold" We'd have a laugh and keep it moving, honestly, after Orgasm people were pretty numb to anything Nars had going on. Urban Decay has always had crazy names since the beginning when they were with Hard Candy on an end cap in Nordstrom. MAC artists then never really talked about other brands because MAC was the ONLY brand, but we talked about Urban Decay (and Makeup Forever). I love you two. You actually made me kind of excited to try some things. Fun episode!

A few years ago i was shopping T.J. Maxx's beauty aisles and came across what i thought was Better Than Sex mascara... until i looked closer and saw it said "Better Than Love". I thought it was a low-end dupe for the real thing. However, it was Too Faced packaging, and everything was exactly the same as the BTS mascara from the formula claims to the the actual product itself.I did some research and discovered this was authentic Too Faced BTS mascara but had been earmarked for distribution to a very conservative country in the Middle East. The phrase "Better Than Sex" was completely unacceptable to display on a product in that area of the world. And so, Too Faced compromised on the name of their iconic mascara in order to sell it in that part of the world.
