Best episode ever. Proof below. “The kid is six years old strapped in a stroller and growling.. it’s 9 am and she’s already got him a large soda and a Wetzel’s pretzel because THAT’S what he needs.”
@@Andytheevien Hey, if it works for you, use it. They were talking about the original one, not the variations that have come out since. It’s a silicone primer that is supposed to blur pores. The problem with any silicone primer, is that the people who have large pores usually have oily skin. A silicone primer may look great at first, but as you wear it and your skin gets oilier throughout the day, your makeup will slide right off your face. One of the newer Porefessionals is the Hydrate Primer. It’s not a bad hydrating primer, and is a little less loaded with silicones, but would still be best on normal to dry skin. I received a couple of deluxe samples and tried it on myself and a friend. My skin has changed in the years since the original Porefessional came out and now instead of being oily all over, only my T-zone is oily. I prefer the Glow Recipe Strawberry BHA Pore-Smoothing Blur Drops. It is vegan and cruelty free. I only use it on my T-zone. I prefer just a serum and sunscreen on the rest of my face. The Glow recipe controls my oils and helps my makeup last and has ingredients that help my pores appear smaller over time. It’s not a pore filling primer, but if an area with pores stays matte, the pores are less noticeable and appear blurred. My cheeks can be glowy, but I do not want a glowy nose and chin. I’m sure you can get advice from others if that doesn’t sound good. Always remember, if a product works great for you, ignore the people hating on it. We’re not saying it’s dangerous, I just doesn’t work for us. I don’t always agree with Johnny and Kevin. For that matter, they don’t even always agree with each other.
@@Andytheevien Benefit test on animals, so I would stare clear from the brand since you asked for cruelty free and vegan. I don't have any suggestions though sorry as I'm not a primer person
As a current Sephora employee that just got off from work during the last weekend of the sale, this speaks to me on a level that nothing else ever will
Kevin: I felt so disgusting. I know that feeling absolutely, the memory makes your skin crawl. Thank heavens for your supportive manager. Please don’t blame yourself, this is on him, he’s an epic a-hole. ‘RED, RED’ 😂😂😂
Aww I wanted to hug Kevin after hearing about the blue lipstick story… especially cause we know he slays that look. I also love wearing blue lipstick but rarely do for fear of getting weird looks on the street. For the game show, what about a category of Harper’s Bazaar makeup trends or make up with questionable names like Nars orgasm
That blue lipstick story made me so sad....humans are just awful creatures. And here we all are begging Kevin every week to know what he's wearing on those Swedish pillow lips.
I'm not sure how old you are, and it doesn't really matter. But I will be 40 next month, and absolutely rock blue, purple, green, and black lipstick all the time, and will until they day I die. If I could get away with it, I would wear orange and yellow as well, but I have an olive undertone so those colors look horrible on me. And more often than not, I usually get more compliments than side eye when wear unique color makeup and lip colors. But I do know I am a bit privileged since I live in Las Vegas when it come to things like this, because we are a very weird and accepting city. But even if I lived in the most conservative part of the country, and all I got was dirty looks for wear bold and bright color makeup, I would still do it because it makes me happy. So I highly encourage you to do the same! It feels really liberating to not give a crap what anyone else thinks. I also constantly dye my hair bright colors, and won't be changing that any time soon either.
I wish I had caught him taking that blue lipstick off. I would've told him how great it looks, so put that shit back on and be uncompromising on who you are. Then we would have walked back out there both wearing light blue lipstick.
Any tips on how to get a job there? I’ve been doing makeup on myself and friends since I was 14 (I’m 20 now) and I’ve really discovered that makeup is a true passion of mine! I went into a local one we have here and I feel like I made a good impression and I have a feeling I’ll get an interview. What do you recommend for tips???? :)))
That story of Kevin crying and wiping his lipstick off broke my heart. People can be so mean. Fast forward to present day and the Beautiful and Bothered community LIVES for Kevin's iconic lip colours 💗.
If I had been shopping and saw that, I would have gone up after he ran and told her that was my grandson and no makeup was going to cover her ugly heart.
1. No one has described how I feel about Ryan Murphy shows like Johnny. 2. Themes for the game: products influencers have lied about loving/are bullshit, potential 2024 Mary Dugan award winners, and the dirtiest names for shade colors you had to say to customers. 3. Love you guys!
In the olden days before influencers, we had to learn about makeup on the streets (and by streets I mean Sephora, MAC and cosmetics counters). I still think fondly back on the people who helped me like the guy at MAC who explained to me that despite being fair, my lips are naturally darker which is why I had been struggling to find a nude lipstick and at my request that absolute sweetheart picked out a bunch of other makeup he thought would look good on me and to this day I still buy those products because that absolute sweetheart of a man understood the assignment.
I’ll add one: I was shopping for an Estee Lauder foundation when I was a teen and some older woman in a white lab coat that came in for Clinique walked up to my area. I did not say anything to this woman. I did not look at this woman. This woman came up to me, reached out, cupped my chin, turned my cheek to the side, and said, “If you’re looking for full coverage foundations to cover acne, Clinique has some great options.” I don’t remember how I responded, I just remember tearing up, immediately putting the bottle of foundation down on the shelf closest to me, and walking out of the store as fast as I could. What a terrible way to try to make a sale. This was at Ulta, but hey it was a long time ago and I’ve never had anything like that happen since, she was a real star.
You could play "guess that palette". You show 2-4 shades cropped from a picture of different eye/face palettes, and you have to guess the brand and palette.
Kevin is so awesome - having the guts to articulately turn down the man clearly to his face and being upset but standing up for himself to the shit manager. I could only wish
As someone who went to a Sephora today AND bought NOTHING FOR ONCE, this is a PERFECT EPISODE!! 💜👑 Game name ideas: Makeup Mastermind or Makeup Moniker
First of all, I'm sorry you both have had to deal with such icky icky behaviour from customers! Secondly, continued thank you for your solidarity with women and how we all have to deal with straight men who can't just go to therapy so they have to make us deal with their problems... Thirdly, I have always been under the impression that Gilmore Girls wasn't for me but I watched it for the first time after last week's podcast and I LOVE IT!! So, thank you Johnny for enlightening me with this gold ❤ And lastly, congrats on your anniversary!! Love you two together ❤
I know exactly what you mean Kevin. I got the most harassment when I was working at 16 in a shoe shop. I was on the floor fitting a kid's shoes when his father, a grown ass man said to me, A CHILD, "you look good on your knees" 🤮 I felt so violated and ashamed. Sorry you had those experiences 💜
I left Sephora in 2013. I'm having flashbacks!!! The holiday when we had to wear a red lip every day and people thought we looked psychotic. Same when Nars and Debbie Harry launched and we had to wear a blue smokey eye like the Warhol painting. I remember being like, "Ma'am, we have to wear this. Would you like assistance or not?" or, my absolute favorite, "Your blush is beautiful. What color is it?" and I would have to openly say "Deep Throat by Nars, come on over I'll show you."
Some of the worst people I’ve ever met are when I have been behind a register so I love a good retail spill. reminds me of being in the stock room hanging out and hiding from management ☕️
The "CAN YOU HELP ME?!?", literally me, a 44 yr old woman, today with my coworker carrying a 18×20 foot carpet roll, loading it onto a wheeled carpet carrier, cue another customer with a 5×7 rug that can be carried with 2 hands "Can you help me get this? I need to use that carrier" AS I AM PUSHING IT UP FRONT CARRYING A ROLL OF CARPET FOR A CUSTOMER WAITING UP FRONT TO PAY FOR IT.
Kevin you look amazing here (you always do but wow) this ahade of blue looks so good on you! Also rhank you for doing this today. Tomorrow we have a high ish risk of severe weather especially tornadoes and i have bad storm anxiety so i need distractions
Worked in retail for many years and can relate to wanting to smack a cheek. 😂 Happy Anniversary to the Dynamic Duo Divas of Makeup! Love the B&B team!! 🎉
An idea for a Patreon. A lil backstory: I was in the Ulta in my area recently and I overheard a maybe ? 9-10 year old painfully shy little girl (I know nothing of children but she was little and shy). asking the sales woman what she should buy to get started with makeup. Keep in mind this is Montana, this dad was obviously a rancher and obviously single with a little girl… no idea about any of it. They were very overwhelmed with the high end prices and sheer volume of products. Total glassy eyed faces. He was telling the woman “Yeah, maybe just a few starter products to get her through until she is in college.” I thought ‘Oh Daddy you are in waaaay over your head.’ The sales woman just told the little girl ‘to experiment and HAVE FUN!’ Obviously they didn’t have much money, weren’t there to spend a lot but the woman just brushed them off. I should’ve gone up and given them a list of RU-vidrs to watch : You guys, Allie Glines, Nikki LaRose.. as well as a beginner list of products appropriate to her age (imagine a little girl who has to learn all of this herself.. even down to proper cleansing, makeup removal, and skincare). I didn’t approach them because I thought it would come across as inappropriate. I totally should’ve helped them. But… on RU-vid there are very few back to basics instructional videos that truly break down makeup and skincare from the beginning. Both of you with all of your years of makeup application and knowledge could really start something special. Perhaps different memberships targeted towards different skill levels? . Just a thought.❤ And you better believe if EVER I see that situation again I’m going to say “Can I help you?”
Some people should need a license to speak to others, disgusted by some of the stories. Love that you spell it out! You remind me of me and my colleague 😅😅
I gotta leave another comment after watching further into the podcast. I’m so sorry those things happened to you while working in retail, Kevin. Men can be creeps. Similar things happened to me while working many of my jobs, so I completely empathize with you. It’s disgusting and traumatizing. It sounds like you dealt with the situations well and are doing alright, but my heart still goes out to you that you even had to experience it at all - let alone as many times as you have.
ooh, you guys should do more what it's like to work at Sephora/MAC etc.. and while Johnny does Barbara, Kevin can have a new character to introduce him to the skits. That would be awesome to watch!
I’ve worked as a server/bartender/manager in restaurant & breweries for 20 years 14-34 & it’s a wild ride. I wholeheartedly believe EVERYONE should have to work in a real life, customer service job for 6 to even 12 mos to learn how to act & treat people cuz clearly many don’t learn. They act like we’re the hired help & truly not human. I also met some amazing people but I can understand what you both are talking about to my core.
I told my kids starting out when they were young that, starting at 16, i would require them to work in either fast food or retail for at least 6 months. Ive worked both, and am a manager in fast food now. The older 2 now understand EXACTLY why i always insist they respect service workers. And why im so damn exhausted when i get home in the evenings.
I believe retail service for 6 months AT LEAST should be a legal requirement to officially become a US citizen, like how other countries require military service before they're officially considered citizens. It's an extremely humbling experience and will teach you to be kinder to others, things we desperately need in today's world.
ok NUMBER ONE, OCC lip tars had me in a chokehold and I remember Pool Boy... Kevin you would have rocked that! My favourite shade was Memento which is such a basic colour but it's been tough to find an exact dupe anywhere else. I would love for you guys to do a game around: discontinued products, limited releases, MAC or NARS shade names, stuff like that!
This episode is a whole different take on "retail therapy" 😂 Those of us who have served time in the retail space can appreciate this so much and bless those who are working retail today as I think it's a whole new animal now that I personally could not do it anymore. ❤
Omg I TOTALLY have theme ideas! Color Story -guess the cosmetic product via a swatch photo/color code Foundation Flashback -discontinued Foundations Who is She? -brands that are no longer around S*xy Skincare -Iconic skincare products
I truly enjoy watching your podcast, and am always up for tea spillage. 🖤 Kevin, your story about hot topic really resonated with me. One of the worst memories I have of working in customer service: A man had come into the store while I was bent over adjusting products on a shelf, and he was just standing behind me staring at my butt. I don't know how long he was there, but I remember being super startled when I turned around. I had to help him find whatever he wanted, and when we got to the register he put both of his disgusting hands around mine to take his change. I will never forget the look in his eyes as he dragged his hands across mine to take his change. I was only 17 at the time, and it was a man in his 40s at least. The things we have to go through working in customer service are truly traumatizing sometimes.
I did tell my supervisor, but they "couldn't do anything" once he was out of the store. 🙄🤔 I mean, yes you couldnt do anything that day, but they could have prevented him from coming back to harass myself or anyone else. My coworkers and I just did our best to be on the lookout for him and any other men who harassed us at work. I got out of that place as fast as I could once I realized they didn't care about their employees.
What about something shady like, least likely to be disclosed as an ad? For a game category? Or game changers, like first of things (1st inclusive foundation line, 1st real dry down liquid lip, etc)
Girl, I can fully relate to these stories. I worked at Ulta for four years. I was hired as seasonal cashier, then got promoted to supervisor (lead) then went to prestige, specifically Mac ( my choice I absolutely hated lead for several reasons) the fucking stories I have I can write a novel 😂😂. Love you queens
You guys are so much fun. I know how that Barbara felt though about missing a product from the 70’s. (Revlon had a stunning purple eyeshadow that made my blue eyes pop. I have never been able to find another like it. Still looking. The applicator was split and you could stick your finger inside, and then apply the eyeshadow. Weird gimmick.)
First, this episode was SO much fun! You guys totally knocked it out of the park. As a business owner myself (unfortunately NOT in the beauty industry), you guys are my dream employees because you care so much, work so hard, and own the job. That's freakin' amazing, especially in this day and age. I can imagine what Sephora would actually be like today if you'd been properly rewarded for all you gave instead of cut down. On another note... I was the 17 - 19 year old girl working at Spencer's Gifts, and yes... creepy, creepy, creepy! One of the most memorable experiences was when a month after I'd graduated from high school, my 40+ year old Sociology teacher from my high school came in and hit on me big time, offering to be my sugar daddy. Thanks for keeping it real, entertaining, and always beautiful.
The mike and lauren story is so holesome thw fact they didnt tell you about the lipstick on your teeth seriously makes me feel like they seriously didnt care you gave such amazing service that they were probably keeping amazing eye contact that they didnt even notice your energy is just amazing so who cares about a smuge on the teeth ❤❤❤ love your guys pod cast so much tons of love and support for here 😊
I think you should do a theme based on LGBTQIA+ people who have makeup lines or collaborations or anything in general for the guessing game. This was so much fun
As Kevin is naming all the 2015 brands for the game I'm realizing my knowledge of brands has not expanded since then 😂 You guys got me on rare beauty and a few others. So thankful 🙏🏼
OCC lip tar!! Make up in the 2010s was a fever dream. Unrelated but I love when y’all talk about music so would love to hear y’all’s thoughts on Chappell Roan especially since people have been comparing her to early Gaga. She’s been the most exciting person to follow in the music industry!
Courtney started as a manager at my Sephora and she was a doll. She was new to luxury beauty and I feel like ALL the older workers there gave her shit because she “only managered” beauty at target prior. They take her seriously and honestly she might have been over her head a tad jumping into such a high volume store like our BUT I loved her!! Her laugh and smile were contagious and she was the reason I got Estee edit because I bumped into her doing a training in GSP and she was KILLIN IT!! ❤I’m glad she’s still in the world ❤❤❤❤
I always get so excited when I get the B&B notification and here it is, Tuesday morning and I'm finally getting to watch this episode! Love hearing your customer service memories. Reminds me of working in the bar/restaurants of Chicago. No matter what you're selling, make-up, food or drinks, people are ridiculous! I once was setting up my section in the restaurant I was working at and I hear a woman say harshly "You!" Finally realized she was talking to me and politely explained to her that wasn't actually my name but I'd help if I could. Literally no manners to be found... Smh Love and hugs to you, Johnny and Kevin ❤❤❤❤
Guys i just wanted to say that i love that u are recording this with sock on hahaha cause it makes it look so cozy like we are in someones house gossping without a care in a world, love ya and thank u for your work u pit in those videos. I really appreciate.
Love listening to you both talk about your experiences at Sephora. I worked retail for 12 years, so know how horrible some customers can be. Was Xmas temp at The Body Shop once, only time I worked with makeup. ❤
I’m in awe of this episode! Relating to everything you said because of having my own version in retail! Having my Monday routine as listening to B&B as I get ready for my day is something I look forward to every Sunday/Monday.
Omg! I needed this upload so bad haha I was thinking this morning that I was sad that I had nothing to watch while doing Sunday chores. Also, happy anniversary Kevin!! 🎉❤ happy to have you on the podcast. Your presence and input have been awesome.
Things I hate when shopping in Sephora when it is busy or there is a Sephora sale......boyfriends/husbands who don't buy the makeup but just take up space and kids in strollers.
You have made me so happy. I had to rewatch parts because you had me laughing so hard. I came close to spraying out my drink on a few of your gems: "Wetzel's Pretzels" "so he's got girth to him" "we're not all whores" "Move over, 'cause you're blocking the blush." etc, etc, etc. Love you guys! ❤
I'm the kind of Sephora shopper that doesnt want help, just give me makeup remover, tissues, and test applicators and let me swatch to my heart's content. I spent a good hour comparing the Sephora Lip Creams against my current nude lippies and had a ball! I actually got genuine sweet vibes from the gal who was working that part of the store because I cleaned up after myself and didnt cause any problems, and it was a BUSY sale day. ❤
This is unlocking memories of working in retail, and creepy men coming to ask what time I got out of work…. I was 16!! And the creepy men were rampant.
OMGOSH, I was hooked to this edition the moment it began!!!! I was in a very busy Sephora yesterday to double check some shades I purchased online....I can not truly explain how many children were in this Sephora--WITH THEIR MOM's-- swatching every lipstick, blush etc. It was like their Mom's took them on a playdate at Sephora. These poor employees were running in that store. Thankfully I didn't require any help. If I know I'm gonna need help I go on Tuesday....and I actually prefer a man to help me. No matter what a guys age, when I explain to them what I am looking for something to help my concerns or to look good on mature skin---these guys actually hear me and knew what I was looking for. and steered me in the right direction. Sometimes the younger girls don't hear the word mature.
Happy 1 year B&B anniversary, Kevin!!🎉🥂 We are so grateful that you have brought your friendship, expertise, and laughter to the pod! You are the Yin to the Yang. ☯️ 💜
