Top 40 Plotholes in Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker! 

Getting a lot of crying from Rise of Skywalker Fans over my Star Wars Plotholes list. Perhaps I should change to "Top 13 Plotholes and 27 Stupidest Moments (that aren't necessarily massive plotholes but still go against canon & hurt the film)". Do you think that would help? Perhaps I should title it Top 40 Stupidest Moments?

41: Kylo Ren kills his dad who was trying to save him from himself, kills his mom because she contacts him via “force ghost” which sacrifices herself to do so, tries to blow up his own master AND UNCLE because he was in his way and he ends up using all his power doing nothing and yet Kylo finally becomes good and sacrifices himself for good not because his dad, mom or uncle convinced him to but because of some random girl he met this one time and every time they cross paths they try to KILL EACH OTHER?!?!?!?!

Major plot hole i just discovered: If Palpatine broadcasted a message saying that in 16 hours he would wipe out the galaxy or whatever, why did General Hux need to betray the first order in order to get them that information? When it was broadcasting to the entire galaxy? Everyone already knew. The opening crawl said that the whole galaxy knew, but they said it was information they had to decode. They literally retconned their own movie in their movie.

My favorite part is that Rey says the knife has a long dark history WHILE SHE IS HOLDING THE LIGHTSABER THAT SLAUGHTERED UNTOLD AMOUNTS OF CHILDREN.

For me, the mainline Star Wars movies end with Episode 6. Disney and those who worked on the final trilogy completely failed, leaving us fans disgusted and bored. You ruined your characters, destroyed your story, alienated your long-time fans, and left one of the most beloved series in history with an inane, nonsensical conclusion. I hope none of you have a hand in ANY Star Wars media going forwards.

A HUGE #41. For all of Palpatine's existence he has always lived by THE RULE OF TWO. A Master and an Apprentice. Continuing, Palpatine has always had someone UNDER him, an Apprentice or servant, but always keeping himself alive and at the top no matter what. From Darth Maul, to Dooku and Grevious, to Darth freaking Vader, they have everytime been there to serve him, specifically, with him being alive. Now here is the problem. Palpatine's goal is to get Rey to strike him down so his life force will live in her. WHAT THE F...? This contradicts Palpatine's entire entire life motivation. His goal wasn't to live on in someone else, his goal was to always be at the top, never die, and always have someone serving him, henceforth the rule of 2.

Palpatines body remained 95% intact after getting nuked but was completely obliterated from sticking his fingers into a power outlet.

It took 4 days to travel between Tatooine to Alderaan but the whole galaxy got to Exogol in an hour.

Best argument of those who love the new trilogy: "Well, if you just sit back and stare at the screen, not paying attention to what's actually happening, it's a pretty good movie. Idk why poeple don't like it"

Don’t forget that since Leia, Luke, and Ben were all Skywalkers, then they killed them all off, that means that there are no more Skywalkers in Star Wars. Thank you Disney, you killed off all of what the main movies in the other trilogies were about.

39. With the ghosts i would have been billions and billions of time more happy that Anakin's ghost fights Palpatine, wins and completes his legacy... Then the title rise of the Skywalker would have made sense.

The Death Star was vaporised, so how come there were large parts of it sitting on a planet??

Number 18. I remember Lucas saying that Yoda learned from Qui Gon how to live through the force. He spent his time and Obi Wan's time in exile training Obi Wan to do the same. This took years. Because Qui Gon had trained for years, and hadn't trained enough to be a force ghost, but just a disembodied voice. Then when Anakin died, redeemed and having brought balance (yes, he DID bring balance, these movies are not canon to me), the combined efforts of Qui Gon, Obi Wan and Yoda came together to quickly speak to him as he died, and helped to pull him through so he could be around for Luke in the future. Because he had finally deserved it. And Luke deserved to have his dad around at last I guess. This was from Lucas himself. I think it was on the episode 3 extras if I remember right.

Force healing was the premise behind the entire reason anakin turns to the dark side. The ability to stop death. Rey does this on auto pilot.

In the Legends continuity, Force Heal doesn't actually bring people back from the dead. What it does is it ACCELERATES the body's healing processes, essentially, allowing the Force-user to "heal faster" than your average person. Also, it seems that Jar Jar Abrams has stolen another Force ability from Legends. This one is called Essence Transfer. In Legends, it was explained that in-order for a Dark Side-user to use this ability, their soul has to become a Dark Side entity. To do that, they must execute a ritual of Sith Magic which can consume the life-force of an entire planet. (it happened when an ancient Sith Lord called Darth Vitiate did it, he ascended into becoming a Dark Side entity) Once that is done, the Dark Sider-user can now use this ability to transfer their soul into any targeted body or perhaps linger on in space as a Dark Side entity while searching for a body to possess. When Darth Vitiate died, he transferred his soul into a guy named Valkorion who lived on the planet Zakuul (which is located at the very far end of the galaxy). Also, the whole idea of Darth Sidious cloning himself and using Essence Transfer to hop from clone body to clone body was literally stolen straight from the Dark Empire trilogy. God, this trilogy is full of stolen concepts. Even Johnson stole a few concepts from the KOTOR series. The sad part about all of this is that before the ST was even concluded, Disney canon's fans harped on about how Legends canon sucks and that they're "glad" it was decanonized so that new folks over at Lucasfilm can come up with better concepts or ideas. Hell, Kathleen Kennedy promised that this new continuity would be fresh and new. I used to agree with those people, but knowing how this trilogy ends now... I can say that I've completely switched sides. Disney canon is disappointing, Legends canon's fans were right but people made fun of them and called them gatekeepers. This continuity is literally rehashing the old one in a different way. Had I known this earlier, I would've supported Legends canon more. God, the SW fandom can be full of hypocritical idiots sometimes...

Another plot hole: How is Fin and the other rebels able to breath while on the exterior of the Star destroyer? Even if the planet had an oxygen rich atmosphere they were at a tremendous altitude... 🤷‍♂️

"Why did the lightsaber call to Rey...?" Let's remember that weapon committed three acts of mass murder. Maybe it isn't the hero's weapon we were led to believe.

I finally watched the film and turned it off with 20 minutes left after I saw palpatine use force lighting on hundreds of ships and did not destroy them when rey destroyed a ship earlier with her lighting.

There's one you missed: Finn says that Endor is where the last war ended, even though it is established that the final battle of the Galactic Civil War was on Jakku... which is a planet and backstory that JJ Abrams HIMSELF CREATED.

Finn - "They fly now?... Man, a lot has changed since I was a stormtrooper, all the years of training. Just didn't notice we had jetpacks during those years. I'm still kinda scared of weapons too and amazed at all the stuff the order has!"

The fact that AJ, OJ and Alex have officially dubbed Palpatine's absorb ability as "Force suck" is amazing. In going to call it that from now on

In my opinion, Rey would have been a better character if they made her a clone that was originally planned to be a new and more powerful body for Palpatine. Her "parents" could have been a pair of scientists that grew a conscience and smuggled her away from Palpatine's watch. This fixes the whole her parents are nobody issue and her op force powers as she could have been flash trained while in the cloning vat. It would even tie into her "dark side cave" scene where she only sees herself. Also "Dark Rey" could have been another clone that she had to fight for real rather than that 30-second "fight" we actually got. It even makes her choice to be Rey Skywalker have more meaning as she literally had no family name.

Palpatine is old so he has lightning incontinence.

Nice video Joe answering these questions has made me like the movie even more so far ima watch it again.

Now that we have every character being overpowered, we can bring Force Unleashed into the canon. At least the history and narrative are good.

I have one thats always baffled me how come Palpy shoots that massive burst of force lightning right up into the atmosphere, and it immobilizes all of the Resistance ships, yet earlier on in the movie Rey accidentally shot a small burst of force lighting and that immediately blew up the First Order transport ship (she thought Chewie was on)??

#41: Palpatine: “if you kill me you’ll become the Sith!” Rey: “I won’t kill you!” *5 minutes later kills Palpatine but doesn’t become the Sith.* Guess he was just bluffing?

Also about plotholenumber one. In revenge of the sith when palpatine was telling Anakin about the "unnatural abilities" he clearly said in the story he told that it's possible to stop others from dying but you can't stop yourself from dying.

I love your list and think it's great! That being said I think Obiwan used force healing on Luke in episode 4. Luke was out looking for the escaped R2-D2 when he was ambushed and knocked out by Tusken Raiders. Obiwan scattered the Raiders by using their fears against themselves. Then he kneeled over Luke and touched his head while in a trance like state. Boom Luke woke up, they grabbed the droids & speeder and got the hell outta dodge.

I’m going to stop thinking about these movies cause it makes you question everything. As far as I’m concerned Luke got drunk and had some death sticks after episode 6 and this is all a hallucination.

Also, C3PO was a 2nd class citizen the entire movie and they missed a gem when in the rebel base telling Poe the odds... instead of "Never tell me the odds... "(a nod to Han Solo and C3PO) they went with "Shut up!". Also "My programming forbids me from translating Sith because of a forced plot device". So annoying how they did 3PO.

Huge shoutout to Adam Driver: In episode 7 he was one of the main things people complained about to episode 9 where he is the best part of the entire trilogy by far

One more here: Why did Rey think that she killed Chewbacca when later on she easily sensed him from much greater distance on the star destroyer? Why didn't she sense him on the desert that he was in a different ship to begin with?

I have another set of plot holes/stupid moments for you... You did say... How did that big piece of the Death Star survive but was it under water that whole time? Uunder water for over 30 years and no water got in and it didn't rust? First it was blown up ( some parts remained around Endor - seen it in Battlefront 2 ) but that big chunk was blown beyond Endor's gravity and kept flying until it hit some other moon/planet? It wouldn't be shielded so why didn't it burn up passing through that atmosphere or smash into the ground creating a massive explosion? Because it landed in water? That water would have to be as deep as a great ocean and even then the Death Star piece woulda superheated the water as it sunk to the bottom so it woulda been like hitting land anyway plus it woulda made a real big splash flooding the land. Most of all, everything in it woulda been broken on impact or tossed out in space as it flew to the next world or at the very least that stupid space map thing woulda fell over and not be in the very same place it was before so how could the knife line up perfectly to show where it is 30+ years later. Wouldn't water have gotten in the Death Star as the tides shifted and the space map get washed awaym? When was that knife made and by who? Why didn't Luke go to that Death Star chunk? Who made the space map devices and when? Was it before or after the battle of Endor? If the map was made before, why didn't Palpatine leave it in a safer place? How did he know the marks on the knife would still work years later? If the knife was made years later, after Endor, then why didn't Palps just send the map to people? Why make a knife only Sith could read? Sith is a dead/ancient language taught to Sith by other Sith. You don't get your language at birth, you have to lean it as you grow, from your parents talking to you and in school. Palpatine's child should have the Force. If Anakin's kids got it and Lia's kid got it then that means each generation gets it so Palps kid would get it.

I recently gave my son my pre-prequel Star Wars visual dictionaries and other books. I am so glad I kept them, such a treasure.
