Great review! I’m looking into the 4c and need really low round trip latency on iPad. Running Loopy Pro and process fx in that DAW full wet. What other options do I have or is 4c the best low latency interface in my situation? Need guitar and mic in, 3 midi controllers and 6 outputs when on stage.

Big time voting for an updated version of this video! Such great information, but the play audio12 is discontinued, and it was just just just what i needed, their new alternative is almost double the price and out of my budget. Are there good alternatives? :)

Hello, one question please: could I use the audio4c iconnectivity card instead of the audio play 12 to obtain a redundancy system? it doesn't matter if it doesn't switch automatically. The manual switch would be fine too. but theoretically would it be possible to connect 2 computers with the same open ableton project? . if computer A catches fire, could I make computer B kick in? I ask this because in my case 12 outputs of playaudio12 would be far too many. I just need 2 master outputs. but on the contrary, inputs would be useful to me. thank you very much

Still working on adding tracks to my covers band. Two questions: 1. Why use a computer vs and iPad for using tracks live? (I understand if your using a computer for VST/Softsynths). Ableton is expensive and seems to be overkill just for track playback live. 2. How important is redundancy really? How often does a computer literally fail during a live show? Seem overkill and unnecessary expense. In our case we still play all our main instruments live, the tracks are the sweetener.

Ableton is great because of the ability to edit/change things on the fly. Sure you could use an app that just plays your tracks back, but you won't be able to do things like looping an extended intro, which you can easily do in Ableton. You're also able to actually edit your tracks rather than being stuck with whatever you had previously exported. I've had gigs where i've needed to EQ certain synths because they weren't sounding great in the rooms we were playing in, so just having flexibility is the number one thing for me.

Hi thank you for this video. I am a solo artist. i used to have some mixers but too heavy and too big so I sold. I wonder if you know very trustable interface on stage for a solo artist (singer). I have music as one track, I sing with that music. I have logoc pro, tracktor software too. I had mixer, channelstrip, reverb all hardware but it was at the end too much. I do stil have one channelstrip with eq preamp and comp if needed. I have apogee interface in my studio but too big! Thank you for your honest advice 🙂. Or do you think I can bettter bu new digital mixer allen heath (little ones) or Mackie digital mixer with 10inch screen. I really did not liked the preamps on analog mackie mixers (too weak), AH was better for my vocal.

Hey! I'm aware I can add the 4C to the PA12 to add redundant inputs. I'm guessing I can't use the additional outputs on the 4C alongside the PA12 to get more channels of output though at the same time?

You could create an aggregate device, but I would only suggest doing that if it's the same interfaces personally

Great question, 1) I don’t have one 2) it’s not an “interface” it’s a console… that being said, like the x32 it can function “as an interface”, so if it works for you- do it!
@donovanjones
@donovanjones 9 месяцев назад
@@fromstudiotostage so the xr18 is rack only with iOS and android / pc control apps available. I have had one as my primary interface for around 5 years although it has been in for Psu repair for a while and I was exploring what other options were being recommended. I’m looking to pull together a live rig that handles audio, and DMX lighting. Struggling to navigate the options. VST live has limited DMX support and alongside the DMX programming learning curve ideally want something bullet-proof (ie not a laptop if I can help it)

Why not thunderbolt or TB3? I got a Presonus 2626 just for that for live. Doesn’t that make a difference with buffer sizes, latency, and preventing cracks and pops? Specifically compared to USB 2 (the 1824c and at similar cost)?
@fromstudiotostage
@fromstudiotostage 2 года назад
In specs TB and TB3 is better than USB2. So if you're purchasing based on specs (which is completely valid) then yes choose a TB interface. For me, track count, MIDI and redundancy (in the case of PA12) and more advanced features (in the case of Audio4C) win out over TB. I've never had latency or buffer issues with a USB interface that's led me to need a TB interface. But again, if you've had issues, or want to buy based on spec then I would go that route.

@@JR-kx8hy Hey bro I haven't gone through with it yet, as of right now I am using my ableton vocal chains + my SSL 2 Iinterface, even though there is a slight delay, I still think it works for the time being. But as he was saying, the UAD stuff like the Apollo interfaces they have almost no latency with cause of their processors so I might actually buy one to see if its life changing or not. They actually have a sale on til 1st of Jan so if I might get an apollo twin x duo for £750 instead of £1200. and make an opionion then.

Heavy bias here because a lot of us not only need hi quality preamps for live use but also we need near zero roundtrip latency which wasn’t covered at all in this video. Believe it or not some of us perform by actually playing instruments not just playing back tracks. For very low latency and solid preamps look at RME. I have heard that the newer Motu stuff also has very low latency.
@fromstudiotostage

"Believe it or not some of us perform by actually playing instruments not just playing back tracks" sounds like some heavy bias my friend :). I've talked a lot recently about context and used this video as an example. "performance" means a lot of things to a lot of people and if I could re-do this video (I'm working on an update for '23) I'm doing separate videos for interfaces for backing tracks and interfaces for live looping.

The only thing is not from here is Audio 4c. It does NOT have 6 outputs. This stereo jack can't be counted as full-fledged output. It's not a stand-alone thing. I hate these marketing tricks...

Audio4c has 6 outs, you can use the software to make them individual outs instead of just headphones. Im with you-I HATE when companies do that, but in this case it does have 6 outputs. I can 100% confirm this is true

Thanks for the feedback. Some would say my voice is annoying without weird audio phasing-but I appreciate the thoughts :) This was the first video of 150 I’ve recorded this year. This was on a brand new setup with new gear. I didn’t do this because I thought it sounded good, It’s how it came out with new gear, the first time recording. For anyone reading this comment-you’ve got to start. If I waited till I was happy with my audio setup and had it all figured out, I wouldn’t be releasing daily videos, I’d be preparing to release videos that would never be released. If RU-vid let you go back and re-upload, I’d do that. But it’s more important to create and release than to wait for it be perfect to start. I’ll release an updated version of this for 2023, but in the meantime the lessons I learned by releasing something I wasn’t happy with and committing to do the work daily will of paid off 100x.
