I really like the Eisenhorn model, but i guess it's because I see it as a "cool guy walking away from an explosion" pose. Which to be honest, is what I like about the Judiciar model too.
For me the Primaris Chaplain on bike is soooo good. If someone asks you what is 40K? Show them that model and watch the understanding set in. Also, wait did I hear you say that the Eisenhorn series is, "OK"? Heresy!
I completely get why people don’t like the early vanilla lieutenants and captains. But, they are nice and kinda simple models to help novice painters progress on before going on I more complex characters.
Aun'Va's straight-up dead now, lol. They killed him off a couple years ago and since then he's been a hologram that Farsight and Shadowsun cooked up in one of their rare moments of cooperation. Why they would do this when the Tau have had their supreme leaders die before and been just fine, and Farsight specifically hates the Ethereals and thinks they're evil, deceptive tyrants, I do not know. Seems like GW forgot that the Tau aren't the Imperium. So realistically the ol' Space Pope's model should straight-up be retired and replaced with a new supreme Ethereal, but I don't see that happening any time soon. Given that the Eldar are sitting on 20-year-old Phoenix Lords... Also, lol at the prospect of a new model for the Avatar.
If there is one model I am disappointed with its tyberos his modle does not do him any justice he's literally the largest space marine to ever exist to the point he has to have dreadnought armour mashed in with his already bulked up terminator armour just so it fits him and in his model...he's barley taller than a primaris even though he should be around 10 to 15 foot tall and 6 foot wide
The Daemon Primarchs in my book really sell the factions well. Honestly not seeing Magnus on this list is super disappointing. I am a sucker for the Thousand Sons. And I took four days to paint Magnus. But it was worth every second I spent on him. He has a choice of three faces and two weapons, and he drips with detail. The feathers were a blast to paint, and there is an air of majesty to the King of Prospero that really gives him an intimidating presence.
On the Genestealers: - "They make up for it with dirty tricks and alien spunk" This is hilarious as a brit! Especially when you followed it up with "He is dripping with practical details". With all that alien spunk I bet he is!! Background: Spunk in the UK is another word for semen.
Doesn't it mean that everywhere? Like when Americans say spunk to mean 'energy,' they mean the person is 'full of semen that is dying to be released?' No?
I remember the old Tau Empire codex when Aun'Va was first introduced, and he was an actual liability to any Tau army because if he died it forced all of your units to take a leadership test or fall back, though if you passed the your units gained fearless and +1 Strength. There were some gimmick lists that would take Aub-Va, and kill him as fast as possible to force the leadership test early in the game to give your entire army time to recover and benefit from the buffs. He is, and always was, a terrible character.
@@fishersofmen4727 If its just the finish, you can put a coat of matte varnish over it. Also as long as the paints not too thick, you can paint over it if needed.
i think the pose of eisenhorn is exactly the point of that model. hes an inquisitor. he is coming for you. i like the design, BECAUSE it isnt another storming model
yes, but also hes not posed striding confidently like the positioning of his arms or the downward glower would suggest. his feet are so close together on all dimensions, it makes his center of gravity seem really poorly supported. you really dont want your named 40k character to look like you could push him over with one hand
It’s funny that you mentioned Ephrael Stern in the video because she’s currently my favorite model, I just love the pose and energy it gives off, doesn’t hurt that I like the lore for that character too. Pose is like 85% of what I look for in a cool model tbh, they can have all the bling in the imperium but if their stance is stale I’m not here for it.
Adrax was meh to me until I saw how powerful he was on the tabletop. Then his nonchalant leaning back model really made sense. Also as a fist player, I love Tor Garadon. Until him, there hasn't been a model that genuinely gave me a wow impression with the primaris. His large frame really gives me that stand out Terminator vibe, and for once I forgot he was even a primaris Captain, he gave me a lord of war vibe like guilliman.
Funny since Tor Garadon is definitely my favourite of the new primaris characters. I don't even play fists but I found him the perfect frame for my own gravis captain, replacing the grav gun with a gatling cannon, and giving him an offhand power sword as well, he has the best military commander look to me. I'd say celestine is probably my favourite character model, I love how graceful she looks and I think it's a really good take on that aspect of her character, but after the new sister's releases, it does make me wonder how much better a sort of "in action" celestine sculpt would look.
Although i agree with some of the placings, I can safely say that we do not have the same taste when it comes to warhammer models... 😅 But that’s part of the fun in Warhammer 👍🏻
oh man so many great 40k character models. My favorites are the iconic Death Korps Marshal, Commissar Yarrick model, Commander Farsight, Swarm lord (couldn't agree more with jay that model is awesome), eversor assassin, and Mortarion
10:18 consider that Aun’Va is in fact very canonically dead, slain by a Culexus Assassin. Partly explains why there is no 8th Ed character rules for him.
I find the lack of people's tops in the comments disturbing! Here I go best: Void dragon, Celestine, Belakor (I like wings), Keeper of secrets, Lieutenant in Reiver armour worst: primaris Calgar (lol that pose), Captain Tycho, Primaris Chaplain (just for the tiny crozius skull), phobos captain, Dante (get primarized please! my BA needs you!)
The Swarmlord was one of the first models I ever painted for Tyranids and he's one of my favorites in general! Glad to see him make the list as one of the top HQs in the game! He's one hell of a quad-armed badass.
The new captains are over loaded with bling, I like the first ones they brought out captains and Lt´s. Cant agree with that pic. Simple and efficient. Now they look like something out of shity gangster rap video.
Emperors champion was the model that got me into black templars and it's the best looking character imo. It's Simple and elegant. Has such a regal pose. Like it's always has a beam of light shining down on it
it is funny that you actually think GW cares about xenos enough to give us decent model updates. If it isn't space marines or necrons enjoy your 20 year old sculpts
While i like the swarmlord model wise he looks too identical to a hive tyrant. I read something describing the difference between the swarmlord and a hive tyrant is the same as a hive tyrant and a termagant, aka a huge difference. But model wise he just has a different horn and 4 swords :/
I'd love to hear your take on the Kayvaan Shrike Primaris model, opinions seem to be REALLY mixed and I don't think it would break into either top 5 list for me, I am in the camp of loving it and waiting till I have improved at painting to tackle mine, what do you think?
For the first primaris Characters made(let’s don’t count the first primaris Captain and the Lieutenant with power sword and bolt pistol, they have to be generic) I always saw them like they have recently joined their chapter, so still have a noob armor, with time they will get a better version(my zakariah I add the same flame thing on the backpack that Agrax had)
i honestly really like the primaries captain. it's like the pose of a painting. i think he have enough stuff on him compared with the other primaries characters
As an Imperial Fist player, it sucks that I never really liked the chunky Lysander, and we finally get a new character and its just an even chunkier Lysander.
Fun fact about Aun'va, he's actually dead. He died a while back and the ethereals just use a hologram Aun'va with voice recordings to keep the masses from panicking.
What Eon was saying in the Kairos section about "Flagship Models" for me, it has to be without a doubt the Prophet of the WAAAAGH, Ghazgkull Thraka! I am a MASSIVE Ork fan! And just getting into the hobby with my first ever army list (Beast Snagga Orks) I'm not exactly the greatest painter atm. Decent, but not perfection. Once I do reach perfection in painting, I will get Ghazgkull and do him proud! FOR GORK AND MORK! WAAAAAAGH!
Power fists are amazing, and Tor Garradon has one of the best ones. I also love Tor Garradon's model. I gotta disagree with you hard. He's one of my favorites. Wait wait wait EISENHORN IS ON HERE? Nah sorry that's a bad take. The Eisenhorn model is awesome I love the clothing design for him he's easily one of my favorite human character designs in all of 40k. On top of that you said the books were just ok and eisenhorn was the least interesting character? I'm sorry but did you actually read the books properly? Lol I disagree with you alot but this whole video basically made me cringe.
my issue with Eisenhorn is he has the ability to bring a deamon host and trust me he needs that dude ! but there is no model for that in the kit. on the other hand it did give me a reason to go on etsy and get a AMAZING fan sculpted deamon host. seriously on the club nights everyone comes over to look at it.
One of my least favourites is sly marbo. For such a cult hero of the guard he's given a static pose which really bugs me. They could have/should have gone with something way more dynamic and badass instead of taking a breather on an Ork head.
Such is the magic of Suspensors; cancelling out encumberance throut the Imperium. Funnily enough my old army The Squats (Space Dwarves ) they're coming back soon I promise you..... had a resistance to -2" encumberance weapons like Heavy Bolters , Heavy Plasma guns and Las Cannons and stuff. Something to do with their naturally stocky physique and manual dexterity I believe?
My top 5. 1) Mortarion 2) Korsarro 3) Commander Shadow sun 4) Jain-zar 5) Keeper of Secrets Top 5 worst 1) Guilleman 2) Eisenhorn 3) saint Celestine 4) Lord of Change 5) All primaris captains and lieutenants
While like ten people have already pointed out your criticism of Aun'vas bodyguards bodyguarding abilities might in fact be more warranted than you'd thought - there's one mistake noone else corrected. Namely: The Genestealer Jackal Alphus is, in fact, a woman. A pretty butch woman, but given her job as biker sniper, that feels fitting; and it's especially noticable when you compare her shoulder width and waist size to that of the Neophytes (or to the Atalan Jackals, the only mixed-gender box in the cults range). Mind you, she absolutely deserves her place on the list anyways, but maybe I'm biased. Praise the four-armed emperor!
MY top 5 citadel character models are: The old metal orc shaman with the big bone, Idoneth Isharann Tidecaster, old Archeon the everchosen on horse, Old old old eighties orc champion with heavy armour and flail, Scinari Cathaller. Yeah, not much of a 40k player I'm afraid :/.
Aun'va is actually dead canon wise, however this is being covered up the Ethereals project a hologram with his likeness and voice to keep going. The Ethereal Bodyguards are the ones actually doing the mind control powers that he would do. They're not so much "bodyguards" as they are puppet masters. I agree on not picking on old models though, the Space Wolf Rune Priest in Terminator armor looked bad 20 years ago and looks bizarre today, but that's not the fault of the designers or anything. I'd say anything from 2010 onwards is fair game, anything before the technology was just limited, and anything after is more or less the same quality in terms of sculpts. For me Trazyn is such a bad model, his hand looks bigger than his head, the pose is so static and it does not do his character justice at all. He is outshone even by the old 3rd Ed Necron Lord.
I love the Eisenhorn model but taste is subjective. To me he's an embodiment of the setting's "crank it to eleven" ethos. Think Harrison Ford looked cool in a trench-coat in Blade Runner? Wait till you see a jerk space-detective in TWO trench-coats who is also a wizard
The Forge World Avatars were awesome models, though sadly only the spear one is produced anymore (Though that was my favourite of the two). A resculpt is long overdue.
Still waiting for primaris blood angels apothecaries and special units like vehicles and dreadnoughts. Even an upgrade sprue would do. Also, where the hell is primaris Dante? And don't give me the excuse "because he don't wanna cross the Rubicon". I'm tired of blueberries getting unique captains and named characters; even the salamanders have Adrax Agatone. All I've got is lieutenant Tolmeron that looks like a normal dude with blood angels markings.
I think the Jackal would've been even cooler even he didn't sit on his bike but rested the sniper on it instead. I always like portrayed, somewhat relistic battlefield action (the grenade chucking pathfinder for instance!). That's very much personal opinion though!
Kayvaan Shrike as a bad character model, down to the execution more than the actual model. Again, no option for a helmeted head (it's moulded to his leg), forcing you to have the ludicrous emo hair GW have made a fixture of RG models; a pistol holster way undersized for the weapon it should hold; and a scenic base that makes up about half the material of the kit. I prefer the older model overall; but this one isn't all bad, just mostly, and inexcusably.
Yes, connecting to leaders is fun. But nothing beats when oppenents Helbrecht fails all his saves against 20 ork stormboys. Did I mention they killed him with slugga fire and not in close combat? Great day. I lost the battle, but it was worth it :-)
The thing about Tor is, his power fist isn't normal sized. It looks huge even compared to normal primaris power fists. I'm totally the oposite. I love how ridiculously large it looks. It reminds me of hellboy. I'm not sure if its just up to the cloak, and tilt plate, but his armour feels bulkier than even most Gravis armour, and along with his armours bright yellow colour, just gives the impression of a construction/destruction vehicle. Like his entire body is built to throw that fist. The way it is down but raised slightly, and his inward curl of his pose gives the impression of tons of potential energy just ready to snap.
I'm legitimately amazed that the Forgeworld Gabriel Angelos model didn't make the list. His face just looks so disproportionately wrong, you would've thought he smacked himself in the face with his lightning hammer a few times.
I was actually able to make the primeris captain look pretty good, I painted him as a Blood Raven, swoped out the head for a grinding assault intersessor head and because almost all blood raven HQ's are psykers i made a electro lightning effect wrapping around his body and going up his sword with a 3d pen
I have never been so offended Tor Garadon is my boy how could you! ;-; In all seriousness though, thats fair but he is currently my favorite model by far tied with centurions!
Think you misplaced eisenhorn. Top 5; he does a great job referencing his own book art to a T. Which btw the Eisenhorn series is easily the best fiction in the entire black library outside some key heresy books. It’s not boring bolter porn or otherwise unremarkable unrelatable bland characters that get crapped out constantly.
Tors power fist is supposed to be a MASSIVE fist. Youre right that its huge and awkward for a primaris, but thats why he is in gravis armor so he can even lift the damn thing.
I've gotta disagree with your take on the plain looking Primaris characters. I hate the ones encrusted with bling and nick-nacks. Give me smooth power armor any day.
I actually think the Necron looks rly cool, I agree thats his hunched look is kinds weird but Ide be fine with his bodie if he was standing up strait maybe pointing his staff forward or something.
I was missing Mortarion on the Best ones, or at least in the honorable mentions. And I really like Eisenhorn. Apart from that, good list. Also, noce prediction on that Avatar update, hehe.
Wait a fething minute, flying hive tyrant??? Feth me, I know I was out of the hobby for a few years, but that scares me. Please tell me there isn't a flying carnifex.
No need to worry. Flying Carnifex isn't real. It can't hurt you. Crazy kitbasher: Are you sure about that?? All jokes aside, no. There is in fact not a flying carnifex
No black templars emperors fist or whatever he’s called for worst because it’s just a waste of money the sprews are in the worst spots and there is so much extra plastic on it that has to be cut off before you can even put it on the base and the sword is way to unstable because I tipped it over and the hilt snapped off the rest it’s just not worth 20-30 bucks let alone 5
