I had been watching a vid that showed 5 lizards similarly sized with similar requirements to the beardie. Accidentally left and can't find it again.😡 It started with the Uromastyx.
I read "Aquatic Reptiles" and my brain went "amphibians!" Anyway, I would LOVE a musk turtle and an axolotl but, sadly, I've stopped enjoying water changes about a year ago. But totally, 100% recommend them to others who can correctly care for them. Thanks for the education, Adam!
Soon as u said turtles I was like nope like today I bought a new 75 gallon for my bearded dragon and when I whent the person lived by alot of water so their was a red eared slider turtle crossing the road so I stop and picked it up so it wouldn't get hit and placed him by the water but soon as I got him to the car he pissed on me it was like squeezing 4 water bottles back to back like I was mad ain't ganna like like wtf the turtle pissed all over my lap my sister got it on video
We have a pair of Australian Water Dragons and they are absolutely awesome! In my opinion they are more social and way less prone to nose rub than Chinese water dragons. They do need a large enclosure, ours is 12×2×4' (l×w×h) and a water feature (we use a 70 gallon aquarium). They use every inch of their habitat! Caiman lizards would also be an awesome species to steward, maybe one day!
I love the Australian water dragons sooooo much! I just bought an enclosure that is big enough for one and i ordered an custom made aquarium for him. I would love to be able to handle him when i get him in juli, i already found a breeder. Are yours tame? And do you have tips for me?
Awesome video Adam! I love Chinese crocodile lizards! I think they are so cool and very unique! I had no idea elephant trunk snakes got that big!! Thought they where like a little bigger then a ball python
I have the Vietnamese mossy tree frogs that do best in an aquatic environment. I have a bunch of branches for them to come out on, but they literally love to stay in the water. They took like tannin rich water.
Hey Adam. I enjoy all of your content. Been watching for a few years. I live in Australia. So just about 90% of what I see on your channel I can never own. But still good to get advice on how to keep various reptiles & their care in general, which obviously translates to our own unique species that we can legally keep down here. So, having said that, is there any chance you could do a full video on Australian reptiles? I think it would be of interest to all of your viewers in Canada, America & around the World. Just saying mate! Cheers, Gary in Winmalee, Blue Mountains, NSW Australia 🇦🇺 I think all of your Australian viewers would appreciate it &
Mr wicky wicky.. I have to tell you to check out spotted turtles. They are around the same size as musk turtles, but look way cooler and imo more fun to watch.
This was such a great list! I have an axolotl, Dirty Lucy named Falkor after the luck dragon from the never-ending story. Too young to know the gender however loves its 20 gallon tank. I would totally recommend and I’m getting more in the future!
Because most of you can't afford to look after them properly. They are nothing special to Australia we have them available all over Europe. Also, most people don't keep them properly they usually stick them in fish tanks. Water dragons like basiliks need huge enclosures with a minimum being 5ft wide and 6ft high with them being Arboreal. Then you need a decent size pond at the bottom with the proper filtration. I keep both species of water dragon and basilisks, and each enclosure easily costs £1000-£1500 once you include all the proper equipment necessary to keep them properly...
Tentacled snakes are pretty challenging to keep, but more active than ETS. And I'm skeptical, but there are apparently some really nice calm nerodia being captive bred. They are beautiful snakes.
Really Tentacle snakes aren't as fussy as people think. I think the main problem is they most likely need warm water like discus 82-86 F. They also seem to be obligate live fish feeders. I talked to one person keeping them and one time one ate a silverside just once! I had some I treated for parasites even got still born babies twice. Now I am faced with an animal I think I've worked the kinks out and can't find any more. I think the whole thing with acidic water comes from the fact that ammonia in acidic water remains as a gas and thus can escape to the air in neutral or alkaline water it forms ammonium ions that can build up in the water. This might be what causes the "fungus". The other problem with tentacle snakes is they seem to come in season during the winter which means they might be cold stressed during shipment from Asia. Also one thing that might help with all aquatic reptiles are there are now small U/V sterilizers for aquariums. This might help in keeping the tail clean by lowering bacterial and fungal levels.
The most fun thing about elephant trunk snakes are their teeth. They are pretty close if not the same size as a tree boa. Really fun to be bitten by a 6 footer! The thumbnail shows the banded elephant trunk snake which is a smaller species that seems to max out at 3 feet. They are also sea snake or sea krait mimics but don't have the paddle tail. they can be kept in brackish or sea water but need freshwater to drink. They can be stimulated to feed by "low tide" them just enough water that fish have to splash around . The main problem is that wild caught ones come in rough shape. Their babies are same size as Nerodia neonates. A. javanicus babies are much bigger and seem to be much easier to get started since they have been "ranched" .
Caiman lizard! Technically speaking they don’t fit the list because they’re semi-aquatic. I know. But SUPER cool, nevertheless. My plan is to do a huge custom corner tank with a 300+ gallon fish tank on the bottom and an equally large terrestrial area on top of that to replicate the banks of the Amazon. It would be awesome. Fully snail infested and full of cool Amazon fish.
I'm not sure where you get your info from mate, but there is no shortage of Chinese crocodile lizard breeders here in the uk. It's the same with crocodile skinks, too
Chinese water dragons!! Yes!! I remember commenting about these guys forever ago I'm glad you mentioned them! they're super cool but absolutely need A LOT! My exes dad had one in the early 2000's that he ended up rehoming bc he felt the 120gal he had wasn't enough and didn't have space for more! If Kitty is still out there I hope she's chillin!
Best compromise for the laziest herper, when that puppyface snake or Budgetts frog eats too often: Olm. True show stopper! Is that thing alive? Yes, its there doing its thing. But its laying on that same spot I saw it five years ago. And it hasnt moved between your visits. Look at all the poop that isnt there!
Hey Adam! Have you tried Giant Danios in your turtle tanks? I’ve had luck with them with sliders and I haven’t had any issues! They get to be about 4-6 inches full size, they’re beautiful, and are always moving so they’re really fun to watch!
Those Chinese Crocodile Lizards are so cool and a perfect size for most people - I'd love some of the water lizards but I really don't have the space to keep them in a comfortable humane way...
Im new to keeping reptiles and I’m interested in getting an African fire skink. I haven’t seen you make a video on them so could you make one or point me to some videos that would help?
What's that one snake that is small in nature that's fully aquatic. Vietnamese animal I believe are known to be a pest in rice fields that they are mostly found. When I was still going to reptile shows I remember this guy was selling them and they reminded me of sea horses, how they hold on to plants with their tail. And I think they also had a horn or two horns on their heads. I just can't remember the name and I can't find it on Google still
Ok i might get hate for this, but if you want to put a musk turtle in a 75 gallon or a a RES in a 150 then go ahead, but its excessive especially for the musk
Not fully aquatic. But the animal I will be sinking all my time/money/energy into for the enclosure build/feeding/licensing... Will be a Green Anaconda. Been a dream since I was 12, and once I have the space and money for it. I will make it a reality. Full blown reptarium style enclosure too
Water dragons would be neat to have. The problem is their enclosure will take up an entire wall, sticking out at least three feet. That's thousands of dollars just to build it.
Part of me (the English language nerd part) heard "silly gooses" and cringed but then the other part of me mentally said the words "silly geese" and it just sounded wrong....now I'm very confused and also want to ask my sister to crochet a bunch of teeny tiny lizard masks to protect their poor noses from rub! 😂
Interesting list , Borneo earless monitors , crocodile tegu , caiman lizard those 3 imo are better than everything except the Chinese crocodile lizard.
SAILFIN DRAGON'S MY #1 ALL TYPES,#2WATER DRAGONS CHINESE OR AUSTRALIAN,#3 CAIMAN LIZARD. ALLIGATOR SNAPPING TURTLES ARE COOL SO ARE ANACONDA'S BUT I WOULDN'T KEEP EITHER ONE.
Things I expected to be on the list that where not Asian Water Monitor Caiman Lizard Basilisk (you did the Chinese version so kinda on this one) Anaconda (yellow or green) Dwarf Caiman
Soon as I seen the title of the video, I figured elephant trunk snake or green anaconda would be on it. I mean, sure an ETS is cooler than an anaconda.... 🤥
