I was working at a gun shop and range when the Remington RP9 came out. I saw some spectacular malfunctions and complete failures while I was there. Personally, I've had no issues with my Kel-Tec KS7. Granted it's fairly new and I've only had a few outings with it, but so far so good. I've ran birdshot, buckshot and slugs through it, no problem so far. It always gets a lot of attention when I break it out at the range and it shreds the hell out of everything in front of it. No complaints at the moment.

Funny, I forgot I posted this. Well update. I sold my Kel-Tec b/c it started having jamming issues. It would fire then the shell would lodge in the tube and I'd have to take it apart. At first I gave it the benefit of the doubt. Maybe I was short stroking but no, after the 4th or 5th jam, I cleaned it up, took it to the gun show and sold it off. Good news is I came out pretty decent. Only slightly less than what I paid and was able to put that towards my Mossberg 930 Tactical SPX semi auto. Had it cerekoted up like my state's (SC) flag. @@ArmedChicano While I've found it to be very discomforting to shoot, unreliable it has not been. My work has had one in for some time on a rental wall and we've documented at least 400 shells through it. All malfunctions I've seen have been operator induced with short stroking. I actually love my KS-7. as far as falling apart you may have gotten one that had a defect as i have put quite a few more rounds through mine than went through yours and it's still holding strong. Secondly i noticed you were using low brass shells, the KS-7 is designed for best performance with 2 3/4 inch high brass shells. The lips on the low brass shells don't have enough meat to be consistently picked up or held in place, this is what causes the feed issue. I wouldn't count the KS-7 out totally just yet.

I have a fair amount of experience with the Kel Tec KS7. You are both right and wrong about it. When I bought mine it suffered from light primer strikes right out of the box so I had to send it back. Kel Tec fix the problem and returned the shotgun to me in less than a week. And they paid for the shipping. So the customer service was good. After that it has functioned quite well. And is one of the few shotguns that will run both mini shells, standard length shells and 3 inch magnum shells. In that regard it is very versatile. The only other problem I have had is that a few of the screws holding the pump grip loosened up. I put it back together with some blue Loctite and have had no loosening since. TheKS7 is not a shotgun that likes to be gently pumped. I find the most reliability when really cycling hard. Gentle cycling tends to cause problems. I would never consider the KS7 anything other than a fun range toy, but for that purpose I have found it to be pretty good. Definitely worth what I paid for it.

I have a KS7, I shoot this weapon often, and keep the maintenance up every time. Yes it’s made with light weight cheap products!! But I have not had any issues at all. Not one… maybe 600 rounds has went through the barrel. Now I will say this, when training with my backup sig 365. I’m having issues with loading the KS7 when under fire. Mini shells I thought would be the answer with less loading. But grip was an issue as well when it came to the shells. But me the 2 3/4 inch shells works best when dealing under pressure. Loading took time as well, if not careful your foot could be an issue, even with the sling adjustment pulled tight, to help keep the mussel out 5 feet. But for close encounters, I’ll take the KS7 or the KSG any day. But only with proper training. Thanks for you video, good job.

I had a KSG for several years maybe 500 or 600 rounds through it, aside from ergonomics mechanically it never gave me issues. If I had to add one the worst gun I ever owned was a sig mosquito. I'm not sure if they ever got those issues corrected I've polished ramps changed mags change mag springs change recoil springs lubed it cleaned it a few thousand rounds through it never got it to run correctly. Took it to a gunsmith and back to the store I bought it at to have their gunsmith look at it I did all the stuff they asked me to do they ran the best with CCI but at least every other magazine I had double feeds failures to eject and so on. Bought a Ruger SR22 and never had an issue. I just wanted something cheap ,fun to shoot the last time we had an ammo shortage. I will say I own several Kimber 1911s although I see tons of videos of guys having issues I have yet to have one so I understand that one may work for somebody very well and one may not work for someone else at all. Love the channel because of you I finally got my first CZ absolutely fantastic gun.

I bought a GSG firefly last summer & it's been working great for me. Idk if they're doing anything different than Sig but whatever they're doing, it's working. I shoot it almost every day. Getting ready to go out back & shoot it right now actually 🤣 I'm sure that I've at least put over 3000 rds through it so far. Federal bulk, Rem bulk, even Win White Box "Western" bulk (which doesn't run worth a crap in any of my other semi 22s). Its been a decent yet inexpensive plinker. Cheap polymer, cheap pot metal slide... but it works. Fairly accurate too.

I had a chance to work on an ati Omni hybrid a while back. Found a major issue in the upper receiver. The metal sleeve that the bolt carrier rides in had a few, rather large, protrusions on the transition point between the steel and polymer receiver. Knocked them down with a small file and it functions flawlessly now.

I agree with your take on Keltec. The SUB2000 is a lot of fun to shoot but the reciprocating bolt grabs facial hair; huge design flaw. I also really like the Mossberg Maverick 88. My PT22 had a broken transfer bar out of the box. Snapped clean in half. You might want to keep an eye on that. I returned it and after going to every shop in town looking for a decent .22, I settled on a beat-up Rough Rider. Bought a magnum cylinder for it last year. America actually has strict quality controls on imported guns, and almost no quality controls on domestically made guns. For this reason, sometimes there will be a foreign gun company that makes mostly crap, but the gun they sell on the American market is gold standard. I think part of the reason Chinese products get such a bad wrap, rather it be guns, or any other product, is because a lot of trade regulations are laxed on their stuff, because of treaties, but that is just a personal hunch.

I must have gotten super lucky with my Omni AR because I have had no issues with it. That being said, your input definitely helps with my decision to keep looking for better upper receivers for it or to upgrade to a higher level AR completely.

Reminds me of my first pump shotgun (first gun ever, actually), a Remington of some sort. It. Would. Not. Cycle. Every time I fired, it would jam. After I finally fought it hard enough to move the pump back, I had to push the spent shell out of the barrel with a stick. It put me off guns for years.

I had the same issue with my 870, I found that the Winchester target shells I was using were expanding too much in the chamber because of the too-flexible metal they use for the shell base. Every brass shell I've run in it works fine 🤷‍♂️

Definitely do more videos like this! My gun buying dollars are few and precious. I can't even partially write a lemon off on my taxes. Every gun you impartially review and show to be a poorly working or even non working POS saves a viewer from making a costly mistake, or possibly saves their lives if it was a gun they would have bought to defend their home and family. I am fortunate, I have been collecting guns for over 55 years. There is no NEED I have to find a gun to fill. Now I only NEED to buy guns that interest me. But there are many of your viewers that are younger than I, maybe just starting a family and ho est reviews like this can help them avoid costly, possibly even dangerous purchases.

I've dealt with the first ATI omni plastic receiver. I built it on my own from a stripped plastic receiver and I gotta tell you, it worked for me when I was shooting 5.56 nato, .300 aac blackout or even shooting with the brownells brn-180 in .223 wylde. My main problem was that I couldn't put any trigger packs that I bought because it wouldn't fit inside. The ATI omni lower I dealt with was the first generation with the flat trigger guard and no flared magazine well.

Kel Tec legit made a 223 rifle called the SU 16 that took “ar mags” but their 10 round magazine had feed lips while an AR does not. Needless to say it was discontinued. Like how? How is that basic engineering not tested?

@@Sig_P229, I remember when they released SU-16C. I thought it was cool and a great backpacking gun. Then I shot one. It felt like it was made by Mattel. It jammed constantly. Fully agree on the KS7. Have the KSG, and was so enamored with the idea of the KS7, but so sad as to the outcome. The top rail is less of a cheek weld and more of an eye socket weld. The doubles feeds supposedly get better as it wears in, but I never used it that much. Still trying to sell it.

@chrisp.2544 2 года назад
I'm with you. I bought the NZ version of the KS7 (slightly longer barrel to meet minimum length and pinned to 5+1). It was not fun to shoot and almost impossible to get a cheek weld while wearing ear pro. Sold it at a loss and I don't miss it.

I own a Bersa Thunder 380 which functions on par with that Remington. I have owned the gun for several years, and it is still laying around collecting dust. That is because I am too honest to sell the thing without disclosing what a worthless piece of trash it is. I has a 7 round magazine (if I remember correctly) and it has NEVER made it through a full mag without at least one malfunction.Cleaning, lubing, feeding it a total of 10 makes/styles of ammo has proven pointless. It is basically a single shot 380 pistol. It is the worst gun I have ever used, or even witnessed, in all my 6+decades on this earth.

Can you imagine how many first time gun users had an absolutely horrific experience with.a gun and assumed that all of them were that crappy and a rip off no matter how low the price? First gun I ever bought for myself I was 13 and rode my bike to the hardware store and paid 50 bucks for a Marlin 22 and a few more bucks for a bucket of ammo. The notion of that is actually pretty funny now. 5 kids on Redline BMX bikes stopping in to buy guns and ammo. It worked pretty good then and actually still works. Growing up you figure there are smart people in a board room that think through decisions, even more so when you're dealing with something that shoots a small very fast object that can kill people. However, as I got older and saw seemingly smart people make horrible decisions about just about anything you can think of, I came to the conclusion that more often than not accountants and engineers are more in charge than the end user every could be. Accountants beat the drum of cheaper cheaper cheaper and engineers beat the drum of the weirder and less fun or useful something is the better it must be. We all know that sales guys are just annoying prostitutes that just bother you so much that you'll buy it just to shut them up. Along the way up and down the geek chain it is way more often than not the end user that suffers.

The keltec you were operating it incorrectly. Read the instructions. Its a little different. Rack the handle towards you and load the actual barrel, not the tube with 1 round. Rack the handle back out (you had it in) to load the magazine tube. We have over a hundred ks7s and they are very reliable and function when you learn how to use them.
