Did you buy a VR headset only to find out you suffer from motion sickness? Or are you thinking about buying a VR setup and are worried you might struggle? A few years back I bought my first VR headset and immediately regretted the decision because of the dizziness, nausea, and vertigo. The good news is that I was able to overcome my motion sickness to start actually enjoying VR, so this video covers some tips for anyone struggling through the same. From fitting your VR headset, graphics settings, home remedies, and more, I hope I'm able to help in your VR journey because it adds so much immersion to games Assetto Corsa. If you're looking for tips to get over VR motion sickness, this video is for you.
If you're one of the lucky ones who doesn't have to deal with motion sickness, it might still be a fun watch (and I'm also secretly jealous because I can't even ride a roller coaster).

My Story *********************
While this video is more general gaming-related, my channel focuses a lot on my transition from learning to drift on driving sims to purchasing my 2007 Nissan 350z to start attending my first real life events. I've learned quite a bit along the way and the community has been great, so I'd very much like to pay it forward and help anyone else looking to get into drifting for the first time. Any burning questions as someone wanting to learn how to drift? Send them my way and I'll either respond or cover in a future video.

Thanks for these videos, so refreshing to find experienced, and level headed content creators not screaming into their microphones with a jump cut every 2 seconds! Keep em coming, I'll be sure to blame you when I build my sim setup!

I like your fast tempo videos. Many reasons you discribe seems hcan be fix with hardware limitations. Like, having better pc, or better headset with hight hz and better lanses
@JankyDrift
@JankyDrift Год назад
That is true, but all of those things can get really expensive really quickly, so most people just need to learn to make the best of their current setup.

@@JankyDrift I was hoping more like time to pass and hardware getting cheaper.

I don't think I'll ever be able to enjoy VR which kinda sucks, I seem to be really sensitive to changes in momentum that isn't the same as what I'm seeing, like taking a car through a fricken car wash when I can feel the car moving but I can't see out the windows and my visual data doesn't match my physical data and my brain is like .. this is wrong have some slight dizziness and nausea. I did try VR one time but I couldn't even get out of the pits without feeling horrible. It was seconds not minutes I could last. I was gutted.

I get nauseous sitting in the passenger seat of a car so I can sympathize. VR was messing me up in the beginning but eventually your mind seems to figure out how to conceptualize it. That said, if it's not for you, it's not for you. Still messes me up here and there.

@@JankyDrift I love the experience, when I first tried it and was sitting in the pits at Spa in BMW M4 GT3 car and I was in awe. It was all life size and it blew my mind I was actually THERE at Spa. Moment I started moving out of the pits... My body was like.. Nope.

Thankfully, I never have issues with racing games. I can only last 30 mins in walking/running games that require using an analog stick to move though. Funny enough I can tell when the motion sickness is first coming because I start burping. Dramamine helps me some.
@JankyDrift
@JankyDrift Год назад
Yeah I'm probably in the same boat, though I can definitely go longer on other types of games vs what I could originally. Racing games definitely easier on the stomach. Also (unfortunately) feel you on the burping 😆 though I was not about to include that in the video.

For me it was easier to play walking games seating. I trained myself a bit playing No Man's Sky this way. And for standing, Half-Life: Alyx was great - I walked smoothly with analog stick around rooms and traveled using teleport for longer distances. This way I was switching between smoth and teleport, letting me "take a breath" between moving smoothly, so I could last longer during one session. Nowadays I can walk for hours with analog stick and even play some very fast running games without issues. You can get used to it. I also was considering if buying VR was a good decision after I tried it for the first time. Oh, and at first I spent like 50 hours watching TV shows using free Bigscreen app to watch stuff in virtual cinema. It also helped me adjust to VR. It has native support for Disney Plus, Prime Video and some other apps which I don't use. For other streaming services (Netflix, etc.) you can just launch them in your Firefox browser (apps from microsoft store, Chrome and Edge don't work due to their DRM protections so you just see a black screen).

Hey! Loved the video, just want your opinion, or possibly your experience. I drive 99.99% of the time in 3rd person, rear view, you get me, and i'm soon to be buying an e46 irl to start drifting. Just want to know if you did use 3rd person, what was your experience when switching to irl, and if not, what do you think i should do? I have a VR but it is basestation tracked, and my basestations aren't near my sim rig, so If i was to use it, it would cause my head to go flying across Touge. 😂 Thanks for your time!

I mean the driving skillset should still transfer to real life but you're going to have an adjustment period for sure. I drift in cockpit view then record footage afterwards in 3rd person, and the few times I've tried 3rd person in VR it's been really disorienting. Honestly not sure how to best approach with your setup but I'd definitely recommend switching over to first person if you can. An important part of the experience you're probably missing is building that instinct to look into your next turn with your full head. Or looking out a side window for your tandem partner. Apologies that I couldn't be more helpful on the technical side, my headset thankfully has built in cameras for motion.

@@JankyDrift I know that IRL there is gear ratios and such, though the car im looking at buying is in the lower horsepower range (150-170 km/h), so i wouldn’t be changing gear ratios until I upgrade the car and get a quick change. In AC i oftenly struggle to find that sweet spot for gearing with DWG, tried the slower 180 and found i was rev smashing in most corners, then in the straights i would gain traction either from the revs just smashing to high, or changing into 3rd would slug the car out. I’ve never really had such problem with GravyGarage but recently wanted to try DWG to more “prepare”. Also, thank you for your comment, I greatly appreciate your efforts!

@@sewerrrats Super rare to see a quick change at my local events outside of the really high level cars. Don't know what your local tracks look like but I have yet to run one that required me to get into 3rd gear. Try to figure out what gear ratio you'll most likely have on the E46 and drift with that in assetto (making sure the trans has the same numbers of total gears). You will definitely find that your car is geared better for some tracks compared to others. Adding power helps a lot, but you can run wider or skinnier tires that match your cars power level, then tire pressure is the main thing you see people tune at events to help adjust traction. For example the high horsepower people might run 20 psi while the low horsepower run 40-50 psi. Play around with that on the DWG cars.
