Yes, I need to grab it when it gets reprinted. I’ve read most of the material before but I’d love to add it to the collection in oversized format. Probably my favorite Miller work too!
They should have kept him in San Francisco and just created more characters in the city/state/region and found ways to have other characters from farther involved in the stories, witch shouldn't be hard because he's a lawyer. So someone may come to the city and do something or someone may be tied to a crime but stays farther away and so it allows him to go fight them and some may have never planned on coming to San Fran but after they find out who he is goes to the city to fight him on his turf witch only helps him make more arrests - win, win.
Ok so here my question. I want to get into Daredevil but I am not 100% what omnibus I wanna chance down. Obviously Miller is a classic but it's probably a bit dated for me although I do wanna read it. With that said, can I read the Bendis run with no prior reading? And then go into the Brubaker run? Is there anythibg post Brubaker that is essential? Or does Brubaker's run pretty much close out his story.
Bendis is the first ever daredevil run (still remains my favorite) and yes you can jump into it with very little prior knowledge. You can always go back and read Frank's run. Surprisingly 85% of it holds up really well.
Yep! Bendis is a great Daredevil starting point (and it was actually my first DD story)! Probably the best modern DD run to start on, in fact. It also directly leads into Brubakers run so the reading order should be extremely easy to follow there too. After Brubaker it kind of just depends on what you’re in the mood for, if you want to see a more traditional “superhero” story then Waids run that comes next is great for that. If you want the similar but slightly even more modern gritty, noir, stuff then Soules run is a good follow up and back to basic style take. After that, I’ve heard great great great things about Zdarsky’s run but I haven’t had the chance to fully check it out yet. What I’ve read has been phenomenal, though.
@@mdb9920 yeah it's a run. He did a initial run and then came back years later and did the two famous stories born again and man without fear. But can honestly read them after bendis if have issue with older comics. That's what I did. Bendis is best modern take in last 20 years despite alot of other great runs like brubaker, chip, waid and soule
If I made this list today I think I’d swap out either Soule or Waid’s run with Zdarksy. I almost want to say Waid’s but it’s more unique compared to some other DD books so…leaning dropping Soule to add Zdarksy, personally!
@OmnibusRyan OK so, fourth it is. I'm waiting on my Zdarksy omnis to arrive. The only other Dardevil if have is the bendis run which is in TPB, so, I'm tempted to upgrade to the new release omnis. Never got around to reading it, so it would be like a blind buy. Well actually a little bit of a lie. I started it and the pacing was tricky for me to sink my teeth into. I think I came around before life got in the way the book was out down.
@@benjamin_parry I actually just posted a video overview of the Bendis Daredevil Omnibus Vol 1 (that is spoiler free) if you want to hear some thoughts on it. But I will say here - the first story is VERY different, so if that’s what you read just know that right after that we hop back to more Daredevil adjacent gritty crime noir stuff. I really love and respect the opening story, personally, but definitely might not be for everyone! Then the volume 2 is even better imo.
While it is the greatest comic ever written and that ever will be written, I’d prefer not to be dragged into the streets and beaten by a swarm of angry Daredevil fans. Also, I know you didn’t change your profile picture because of this video but I’m going to just assume you did anyway 😉. (Looks dope!)
@@OmnibusRyan LOL fair, it is a god-like comic afterall. And not for this video, but for the god-like character of Matt Murdock. But we can say it's for this video (Thank ya!)
Absolutely, you’ll have enough context to enjoy the story starting with any of these. Though, I’d recommended maybe not starting with the Shadowland omnibus (it’s somehow not very DD focused anyway).
The omnibus reading order (modern) is Marvel Knights by Quesada, Bendis Vol 1-2, Brubaker Vol 1-2, Shadowland omnibus (not a super well-received run but the core event is important for the next runs), Waid Vol 1-2, and then the Soule omnibus.
