In todays video we fully go over the new to me 2006 GMC Sierra Z71! These are some of the top things I like to do any time I buy a used truck! Let me know what your list is!
I’d like to see more service videos on this truck. Diff service or cleaning up anything leaking on this GMC. In short, making this thing mint again. Maybe some interior improvements/ mods as well. Lights, steering wheel etc….
Love the truck. I have a 2020 trailboss and love it. But the look of this truck will always be timeless. Inside and out! Can't wait to see what you do to it.
I just acquired a 2005 sierra, and subsequently I started looking for videos on this vehicle, which is how I ran across your videos. And I’m definitely picking up on some good ideas and things to do with my truck. I’ve really been enjoying watching and learning some of the ins and outs of this truck. Thank you for the good information.
Haven’t been active on your channel for the last few months, I’ve been off and on. But this GMC is making me come back and not letting me miss not one vid. In fact I still watch the old lbz vids. Love this body style.
When checking ball joints, try and jack from the lower control arm so that the suspension doesn’t droop all the way out. Get the tire a few inches off the ground and then slide a pry bar under it and pry up and down. Sometimes on an IFS jacking from the frame to check a ball joint and allowing the suspension to droop out will hide a sloppy ball joint. Just a suggestion. Also, great way to identify worn steering components is to have a helper start the truck and wiggle the steering wheel back and forth with the tires on the ground while you crawl under and visually inspect each component. You’ll be able to easily see any play in steering components this way.
@@nsant I think he’ll do well. Not immediately this first year but I think he will learn a lot and if he can adapt quickly will maybe get some better results later in the season. I think it’s great to see more American racers racing in MotoGP.
I have a 2006 Sierra 4WD also. Awesome truck since I bought it new. Get ready to pull your instrument cluster, replace the stepper motors and resolder all the cracked solder joints. They pretty much all go bad. There is also a steering shaft clunk issue (you will feel it at low speeds going through parking areas), on these that is easily remedied by packing grease into the steering shaft tube that the shaft goes through. Last year of the great trucks! After that they started with the cylinder management nonsense.
Getting my first truck (second vehicle) on Monday man I’m excited as hell. It’s a well kept 2001 GMC Sierra and the dude has all the maintenance done on it
These 99-06 trucks are great I have a 2000 Chevy and she’s got the big 5.3 in her she’s rusty and crusty but she fires up every time ya hit the key you’ll love that gmc more and more after you drive it a lot and get the mechanical issues ironed out. I thought about getting another gmt800 truck sometime but this time maybe a gmc like your black one. Can’t wait to see what goes on with this thing love these 99-06 trucks 😎
Just got a 2017 GMC Sierra slt dark slate metallic a few months ago congrats on that clean nbs love to see it will definitely keep up love the content!
When I got my used truck, the first thing I did was detail the interior. I used some Mother’s VLR, and oh man it did an amazing job at removing all the caked on grim and crap. All the high touched areas like the steering wheel and column shifter felt so much better afterwards.
Checking the lugnuts what a great idea sometimes the most simplest things are overlooked and then the most simplest things that are overlooked are usually the ones that caused the most catastrophic accidents
You got a good one I have an 04. It's hard to find the 1/2 tons with a crew cab and 4×4. Most 4x4 in these body styles are only extended cab and most crew cabs are only 2 wheel drive
Whenever you decide to run the exhaust I recommend true duals with high flow cats, flomaster super 10s, and 6” rolled tips. It’s loud has the crackle but not clapped out. Makes the truck sound real mean I have the same truck just white
really enjoyed the video even though some may say its boring, would love to add one of these to my collection lol cant wait to see the process on this one.
I’m sure someone has said this somewhere in the comments but you should get a punch tool (or anything with a pointy end) and poke a hole into the oil filter to drain out the oil from it, I find it to be less messy 👍 found your channel about 2 weeks ago and i’m loving your videos man great work
Another incredible find sir!! I live in NH and no way in hell could or do we have anything that clean up here… and if by an off chance we did they would ask some ungodly dollar amount…
Hey man, love the videos. Ive always lived in alabama so im local to yall. Love that GMC, my dad owns an extended cab version and it literally looks identical
Finally a nice truck on the channel now I'm just getting the other ones are nice but those new trucks will never be half the truck that this truck is never those new ones wish they could grow up to be like the 99 to '06 first gen Silverado 2nd gen Sierra They see those drive by and it's like me seeing my idol
Awesome truck brother, I've always had GMCs and I love em. Last July I found an 02 crew cab GMC 2500hd with 86,000 miles on it, had to go all the way to new jersey from Colorado to pick her up. Pretty excited about all the mods I'll be doing, the biggest being a lift and tires since I almost got stuck elk hunting in some deep snow. I was thinking about a cold air intake too but my engine is stalk and probably won't make much difference, plus it'll probably just trigger the check engine light. I'll probably just go with a KnN drop in filter. As for Mods for your truck, I'd go with an exhaust, maybe a 7 inch BDS lift with 35s. Would look pretty sweet. But there's a bunch of other things you could do too like diff covers, new spark plugs and wires, optima battery, rainx windshield wipers with rainx 0 degree washerfluid, coolant flush, change transmission fluid, kryptonite steering components, wheel bearings and upper control arms. Possibilities are endless lol
I bought an 07 Cateye in May of 21 truck was great when I bought it then literally next day I got the infamous engine lifter tick. Also had a couple leaks underneath spring up but nothing major. Still been a good truck
I have one just like it and the exhaust he needs is true duals with high flow cats and two flomaster super 10s it’s loud and has the crackle in it but not clapped out
I’d recommend getting yourself a obd reader even if it’s a cheap one makes life way simpler I paid $40 for mine it pairs to my phone and it’s handy as hell to have
just a service tip dont pre fill filters through the middle of the filter so you just put unfiltered oil in the filter. filtration is through the smaller holes along the outside
Would love to see you service all the little leaks so I can get a even better idea for my 06 cat eye. I also have the oxygen sensor check engine light and it’s honestly scary at first cause it flashes at you. 😂
I’d like to see an exhaust set up put on it first like some true duals. Would also like to see some wheels and tires go on it. Kinda think long term you should murder it out all black
Larry is forever my favorite! I’m going to look at a 13 GMC Sierra Denali with the 6.2! I’m hoping I’ll like it! I’m definitely going to look into a dfm disabler for it though!
Where did you find this beautiful 2006 GMC. I am searching for a truck just like this one. The price of trucks for the older ones are off the chain and new ones with Active Fuel management system or DEF is not going to cut it anymore. I want an old one to love and cherish ! 🇺🇸
Good looking truck! Hope those tie rods aren’t too hard to replace. Honestly to be positive and look on the bright side it could be alot worse than tie rods. As for exhaust I would love to see an h pipe setup.
Do an engine bay detail video. If you want to change headlights the factory style ones with clear markers look clean you can find them on eBay I got a set for my 05 Sierra a few weeks ago and so far they are good, the park lights that come with them don’t have clear markers though so I had to buy another set of just park lights
Do a 4:56 gear swap in it before any major mods. Sounds like a lot but is perfect with the 5.3l on 33” tires. I’ve done 2 trucks this way and wish I would have done the gears first before cam intake headers etc. The gears will make more seat of the pants difference then then adding 75hp to the engine. Great looking truck btw!
You got that oil filter pretty dang tight lol.At first you put the oil filter wrench on it and I was like ...NOOOO lol.Nice lookin truck though.Whens that cam coming fuggin? That's what I want to see next.
Same here, just sold my 14 Silverado z71 and bought a crew cab 05 Sierra z71, that 14 was trash. My new 05 has 160k very clean, and smiling from ear to ear, 10x the truck over the 14
i think the stock wheels look fine, but to each their own i feel like everyone puts on aftermarket wheels and they always look the same, i like the more rugged look and im digging the tires thats on it
