I bought ET-8550, which is the successor for ET-7750. I fell love with that thing. I get that there could be even better photo printers with better color accuracy yadda yadda, but the quality of that huge borderless A3+ print I made for Epson Premium Glossy Photo Paper is simply phenomenal, and I printed it directly from the printer using my DSLR camera SD card!

I can't find it online, anywhere (to buy and delivered to the UK). It's out of stock everywhere I've looked. :( How easy is it to thoroughly clean or even replace the maintenance tank? Also, is it easy to clean the print head manually (cloth or paper, not software)? Thanks. :)

I have the Canon PIXMA pro 100 for all my printing needs for portraits of my clients. It is the nicest prints I’ve ever seen. The options that come with it for a photographer and software it’s hands-down the best I’ve seen. I tried the Epson HD XP-15000 but it was scratching the prints from the rollers. Maybe I had a bad printer but compared to the Canon PIXMA pro the prints are night and day. I also have the Canon PIXMA TS9120 for two years now and it to prints beautiful photos but do not buy third-party inks for it. I pretty much ruined that printer by putting third-party ink cartridges in it and now I use it for all my paper printing. But the Canon PIXMA pro 100 is a beast of a printer that will blow you away by the rich colors and the fine printing if you do portraits like I do. Yeah the ink is a little on the high side but if you sell your prints like I do I sold four photo prints and made the money back for the ink

I have the Canon Pro 100 and absolutely love it's images. Purchased it about a year ago when the rebate was going on. Haven't printed as much as I'd like. It's really an old machine though and I had trouble hooking it up wirelessly. I just lighten the pics 10 percent to make a decent photo. I have an Epson Artisan 835 all in one with the Claria inks I use as everyday printer. Inks last good in unprotected photos but of course some head clogs but Canon has gave me non of that and I haven't printed for months sometimes with the Canon.

Why does the Epson P400 has orange and red: omit the orange (can be mixed by red and yellow) and replace it by grey, so the tonal gradients in B&W prints is much better. You will get the same ink configuration as the XP-15000 (cyan, magenta, yellow, photo black, grey and red) but in pigment version: extra matte black improves blackness on matte papers and the gloss optimizer gives an even glossiness on shiny photo papers.

If you're just looking for quality and features than this video is quite nice, but it doesn't go into cost. Some of these printers have more than 3 cartridge slots which will get very expensive over time. You see, most if not all modern printers are set up now where if you run out of just one type of ink, the printer will cease to print entirely forcing you to buy cartridges just to print a document. They also run empty after a while even if you've not printed a photo because they have a chip that triggers after a period of time. That's how they make their money. If you're just printing documents and want to print photos now and then, it's almost better just to get a cheap printer with 2 or 3 ink slots and go print your photos at a studio or printer shop.

I am considering buying a ts6120 Canon. How is this printer? Is it comparable with the canon 9120?
@PhotographyPX
@PhotographyPX 3 года назад
Hi Murtuza, yes both printers are comparable. The main difference between the 6120 and the 9120 is that the 9120 has the new Photo Blue ink to reduce graininess in images. The 6120 doesn't offer that particular option, so its images are slightly less detailed. But, otherwise, both printers offer similar capabilities and features, yes.

Hello dear, I'd like to ask you about the best printer for a photographer, and why the color of the picture changes a few days after, and what is the solution to avoid this thing?
@PhotographyPX
@PhotographyPX 2 года назад
Hi Ghadeer, I think the reason they're fading is because the photos are exposed to UV light from the sun. If you have them close to a window or in a room with a lot of direct sunlight, the prints can start to fade and age quickly. Try moving the prints to another room if possible.

Dumb question but why are you talking about the Pro 100 instead of the 100S? Isnt it just the newer version (why would I buy the 100 over the 100S?) Also do you think the Pro 10S is worth it over the 100S? Thanks (:
@PhotographyPX
@PhotographyPX 3 года назад
Yes. This was a typo on our end, we are referring the the 100s and 10S series printers, not the older generation. There's no reason to go with the older generation non-S models here. But as far as opting for the 10S, it's the better printer. It offers a 10-ink pigment based system rather the 100s' 8-ink dye based. The difference basically comes down to the longevity of the prints (which are rated for 100 years) and the printing colors have more nuances transitions, deeper blacks, and less banding. If you plan on printing a lot of black and whites, I'd say the 10S is the better option. Otherwise, I think most photographers in the industry would be quite happy with the 100S and save some money both in the short term and long-term as well.

um the canon pro 100 is your top printer? Did you have a dollar limit or weight limit that eliminated better printers? epson p800? Canon pro 10? Canon pro 1? Any Epson large format stylus? How about pigmant ink vs dye ink? The Canon pro 100 is dye based. That took your top spot? The pro 10 is about the same price and size but uses pigmant based ink and 10 ink colors, including photo and matte black. But what are the perameters for your list? Please justify.

Hi Sylvia, if you're referring to the size of the printer itself when it's setup here are the dimensions: 20.7" x 29.3" x 17.8" (W x D x H). And it's about 24.5 lbs. Together, it's quite a large and heavy printer. So you'll want to make sure you have a desk or surface that's large enough and can support this amount of weight.

What RIP do the various printers use? Color space? Pantone matching? ICC profile provided? Ability to accept and utilize an ICC? How many COLORS can each printer produce? At what line screen? Without any of that information how can you or anyone actually judge which printer is best? You didn't even cover paper handling. Some printers limit resolution and gamut depending on the paper, reserving best resolution on expensive coated stocks. Which ones are print shop cut sheet compatible? Through what paper weight range? I could care less if it has build in WiFi, I want to know what it will actually DO. In fact, I wouldn't consider one that didn't include light and regular cyan and light and regular magenta along with a "photo" or gloss black and a standard black. With luck one would have a dedicated gray or "Light Black" also to extend the gamma range. Lastly, what tools does each come with to try matching RGB screen output. Which begs the question, how do they handle the RGB to CMYK translation? A simple driver? A dedicated RIP? When you talk photo printers there is a lot more to consider than "oh, that print looks pretty". Such things as how close you can view it before the image starts to break down. Any banding issues? Do any support rendering intent such as photo vs presentation, vs map vs economy mode? You leave out WAAAAAYYYY more information than you include. You should be ashamed.

These are important factors. But to cover this level of detail and nuisance in this kind of list is completely unrealistical Len. It’s just not going to happen.

I used to have endless issues with Canon and HP printers. But I’ve been using Epson For around 7 years. First a XP850 and then 860 which still prints gorgeous photos 4 years after purchase. I also have a Brother monochrome basic printer/copier/scanner for boring business workhorse - I recommend Brother easily for this simple purpose.

If your budget allows, check out the Epson XP-15000. It’s a well rounded option that’s not too expensive.

How about a top 10 ink tank photo printer list? Not office/document printers. I hate the idea of constantly buying expensive cartridges that only have a mere dribble of ink in each one.

@@PhotographyPX Excellent! Perhaps score on: Features, Reliability/Longevity, Maintenance and User Experience (from set-up through to cleaning and replacing parts (such the maintenance tanks and print heads) by the customer, not a repair service)? It'd also be useful to know 'Cost of ownership'. 👍

What I find really interesting and I know people are going to argue this but if you buy what ever model of a Canon, Epson, HP printer then USE Canon, Epson or HP papers with the corresponding printer... For example; you buy a Canon Printer (regardless of what model) and then you buy Canon Paper. You don't buy a Canon Printer and use 3rd party "No - name" photo grade paper. There is no difference? WRONG!! there is a HUGE difference. but I'm not holding a gun to anyones head on this... you choose what you wish but don't expect your photos to be at their best if you choose a different paper manufacture. On top of that and just to further validate my point, The chemicals impregnated within the paper match that of the ink you use in your printer. Some inks simply will not dry on any other paper brand than that of what your printer manufacture is. I myself was very disbelieved in this and had the same mentality level that any paper would suffice but when I tried to print a photo of a shoot I did, the ink honestly, never dried!

You need to profile every combination of printer, ink and paper. Then the results will be as good as they can be. Not surprisingly, the manufacturers provide profiles for their own ink and paper. If you use different ones you need to get your own profiles done (usually paper makers will do it, some for free or you use a calibrator such as those from XRite/Datacolor - they cost around $400 ).

Yes. I agree. It's quite expensive. But, printing your work adds a new dimension to your creations and it's well worth the price to decorate your home with your own images.

Our brand isn’t sponsored by anyone. The top picks are just the top picks based on popularity, feature sets and value. It is what it is. Epson and Canon are industry leaders in this segment of the market.

Regardless the printing quality, I will not buy Canon or any printer that sells ink rocket high. those printer companies are just insane. had a canon-Pro-10. I used it when I bought it for less than 20 pictures. I left it there with no use. days ago, I was trying to print new pictures. bought genuine inks but the machine did not work. then I was told by Canon to replace printhead. Are they kidding? the printhead is a disposable part? they wanted to charge me $280, plus the ink at $150, I can buy a new machine. Their insane mind is to charge you for ink and other parts as much as you can. Years ago, I bought a junk back to my house. If you are not a guy using printer often, forget all printers....Don't get into the trap. I bought ink cartridge but produced 0 photo from the machine. I just want to smash this printer.

Never, ever buy an Epson printer. They are absolute shite and rip you off when it comes to replacing the ink. They sneakily download firmware updates that disable any third party ink cartridges you have installed, rendering the printer useless. They can go to hell.

Epson ET-7750 is a bad product. The reviews are accurate in terms of the quality of the print but the machine itself is not good. I purchased one new in Nov. 2017. Epson ended up replacing it after about 4 months of issues. I have had the same problems with the new unit and now they want to replace it again. I have an ET-2700 also I purchased at the same time and have similar issues with it. Paid 650 for the 7750.

The sprocket studio was great until they uploaded new software. Now it won’t work. To say HP and customer service is an oxymoron. They cannot figure out how to get the printer working, and their MO is to set up an appointment with you and then never call. Do NOT buy an HP sprocket. We have a business. We have 5 other HP printers. Until they bring their call center back into the US* don’t buy HP. Not only that, but it’s practically impossible to buy a printer this season thanks to our really intelligent (sarcasm) tariffs. I have my camera store waiting to call me to sell a new printer. Meanwhile HP, with what was once a solid reputation will not be selling me me a tablet, laptop or printer this season or ever again. * By it’s very nature call center means you should be able to dialogue with the techs. You can’t. They don’t understand what you are saying, and you can’t understand them. They drop the calls a lot, virtual help us not help.
