He-Man was the first thing I was ever "into" when I was a kid. A very, very little kid at that. I don't remember it but according to my Mom I used to run around in a diaper, barely able to talk, screaming "I the power!" (I couldn't even say "have" yet LOL) I do remember having Castle Greyskull as a kid though, that was awesome.
The fact that He-Man’s rights are owned by DC could open up so much more opportunities for him if they market him correctly. Would love a dlc for him in Injustice 3 like you said
I hope not with him being a cartoon character in a comic book character's game. Conan would make a lot more sense considering his origins, he even had his own Wonder Woman crossover.
There was a douchebag at my work named Doug that had a He-man haircut. He quit about 6 months ago and he had a lazy eye but goddamn was his hair ridiculous.
As a long time He-man / She-ra franchise fan. Thank you for putting a spotlight on these community games. Fans put alot of love into these and im glad they get attention. So again thank you.
You should definitely check out the cartoon from the 2000s. I grew up with He-man as a kid, the old show has its charm in a nostalgia kinda way but the 2000s show is superior in lot of ways. Its a prime example of how to do a reboot correctly. It respects the source material, it expands and improves the lore, the characters are more fleshed out and the stories are great. Its just such a shame that it got cancelled. Kevin Smith has his work cut out for him with the new show hes making.
@@micronoid I like the original better. My only issue with the original, is about the so called Masters of the Universe. The only Master that kicked butt ..was Teela. Man at Arm's, would (talk a good game) but usually, he would only get beat up! He looks coolest only in the intro. Shooting his lasers! Ram man, got beat up alot too! The same with the rest of them! Heck, He-man's parents would do better than the Masters! The 2002 show was darker than the original, (they even went as far, to show a character get eaten by snake people). These days, people are into the dark stuff ...me, not so much. Also, I'm not sure how I feel about Adam being a young kid, on the one hand, it makes sense, to hide difference between Adam and He-man. In the original, they looked exactly the same, (only He-man would get a tan). Yet, nobody would ever know (except for maybe his mother). I got the 2002 He-man game, it's ok, except getting past that area that was shown in the video, and you can get lost easy! Otherwise it's ok, but I miss the original music, (yeah, I know it's a different show from the original). Anyhow, that's why I perfer the Operbor game! I will say, the 2002 He-man show, was at least better than the one from the 90's!
I never liked the Zodak focus in the 2002 reboot. He seemed unnecessary, existing as a plot device to defeat King Hiss. One can argue it changes things up by having someone other then He-Man save the day. But again, why is he necessary? They never established He-Man "couldn't" defeat Hiss.
Loved the cartoon and the toys. We had 3 TV channels in finland in the 80’s and the cartoon came in a channel where the picture was very bad in the house where I lived as a kid. so I remember my dad try to adjust the antenna every time that I could watch he-man. Fun times... but never knew there were he-man games!
Being 41 years old now... He-Man was the thing back in the early 1980's on Saturday mornings. Was such a special time for young kids like myself with wild imaginations. Had the action figures and accessories etc. Castle Grayskull! Fortune for my folks for sure but i was happy (spoiled for sure)). I also had one of the first board games that was licensed back in 1983 i remember. World was vastly different back then as well. No internet/social media. It's such a long time ago now. But it feels like yesterday. Peace.
😱OMG ❤️Erin you brought up my childhood cartoon animation I grow up on He-Man and She-ra and no way I kinda missed out almost all the videogames francise all thanks a bunch to you Erin you showed us Top10 He-Man games it does exists.🖤✌️😎
Erin, this was an awesome survey and a blast from the past... well, my past at least. Thank you so much for the look back. It really makes me wish there was a Masters of the Universe fighting game in the style of TMNT Tournament Fighters. I think that would still sell really well, even today.
Erin, you're blowing my mind rn. I've never seen your videos before, this is my first. But how you know about Masters of Universe just baffles me, in a cool way. No disrespect, but you look like you're 19 yrs old. He-Man hasn't been hot since the 80's. There was a dope remake in early 2000s on Cartoon Network (Around the same time they remade Thunderkats) and it was amazing, but unfortunately got cancelled. I think it failed to gain a big audience, but it's better than the original cartoon. But yeah, major props on knowing about this stuff! Good ish!!👍
Awesome video, Erin! I remember enjoying He-Man: The Most Powerful Game in the Universe even though it’s one of those mobile games where you just tap. Too bad it’s not available anymore.
I think I saw Rich Evans from Red Letter Media play The PS2 game in his sadly dormant streaming channel: Pre Rec. Loved that channel and highly recommend for any RLM fans.
It's sad that such a great franchise has such shitty games. I didn't even know there were ten He-Man games in existence lol. And yes Erin you should definitely check out the 2002 reboot. It was so good and got cancelled way too early.
maybe there has never been the right time and audience to make and market a big budget He-Man game. video games were not that big back then when the action figures and cartoons were a hit I guess. and PCs were expensive and slow. so what platform to develop one on? And kids back then had to persuade their parents to buy another of these weird muscular action figures and maybe a playset for Christmas and some video cassettes of the cartoons. Buy a cosnole and games? good luck kid. and the he man fans nowadays are about what? 40something? now they got the money to afford it but would they still buy a He man game to make it a hit? me not. and the younger audience probably wont know the franchise enough to have it earn decent cash would it?
The original was better! If the 2002 version kept at least the original music, I'd probably like it better. But Filmation had both, great soundtrack, and great artwork.
Thank you Erin for doing this awesome He-Man video! Sorry I’m just now seeing it, but He-Man is my favorite fandom (TMNT is 2nd actually), so I can’t say how much I appreciate this video! Really cool! Thanks!
Ah Erin, this was an amazing video. Being an 80s kid, the he-man era was such a highlight for me, had the toys (which I confess are still up in my loft). Thank you for sharing these other games I didn't know existed. I had a commodore 64 back in the day and have a pi to play them on so thanks to you I'll be checking out the c64 titles 👍. I already tried the atari 2600 which is amazing 👌. Am gutted that last game on your list was a fan made beat em up 😔 I would have bought that one. Keep up the great video research. How about a thundercat or defenders of the earth game next, there are some 😉👍
He-Man as a guest in Soul Calibur or Killer Instinct would have worked and been pretty cool. Amazing Vid lady, honestly never knew most of these games existed.
I was born in 1980 and thought I was He-Man as a young child, I loved it so much! That fan made game at the end would’ve been out of this world back then
I still wait for a He-Man-MMO...then I'll leave this ordinary planet and live on Eternia for the rest of my days, joining Team Skeletor. Thanks for the great video.
Great vid. I played the Intellivision He-Man game as a kid in the 80’s while the cartoon was out. It was great. It’s a shame that it is still the best official version. This property is begging for an open world RPG with all of its rich lore and characters. And, yes, the 2000 show is totally worth checking out and has some amazing character development and arcs.
i loved he-man when i was a kid growing up and had a bunch of the toys but never played most of these games. I didn't even know about the fan made pc game at all and now i'm really excited to try that out. This got me in the mood to go back and watch the original episodes too.
Thank you so much for this. I actually was hunring for a he man game about a month ago. I will have to check out that fan made he-man/shera looks awesome. Subbed!
Erin: I wasn't around at the time the show was out... Me: realizes how long ago it was... Cocks hammer on gun while applying for pension and bus pass......
Fun Fact: the He-Man toy line was originally supposed to be a tie-in to the 1982 Conan the Barbarian Movie, hoping it would be the next Star Wars. When the movie came out, it was super-violent and R rated (it featured cannibalism, orgies, beheadings and a crucifixion) and Mattel backed out of the deal. They kept the molds, and reinvented the toy line as He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. The original Oliver Stone screenplay featured the sorcerer Thulsa-Doom in his original form, a Lich with a skeleton head. The filmmakers switched the character out with "Thoth-Amon", but still used the name Thulsa-Doom for the character (I guess it was cheaper not to have to animate a skeleton head). Mattel retained the skeleton-head for their toy version of the character, which is where Skeletor comes from.
Ah, thank you for this vid, Erin! I didn't own the Commodore 64 game in this list because it must've looked awful and cheap to me at the time - and, yes, it still does. However, I loved the toyline even before the Filmation cartoon, and was excited when it debuted in 1983. The Superman vs. He-Man comic from DC was/is pretty special, too.
I think we need a compilation of both He Man games and Superman considering how iconic they are, and how low bar their transition to gaming still is to this day.
Oh Erin thx for this Video! ❤️He-Man was the Hero of my childhood. My computer was an Amstrad CPC so I could only Play the Movie Game. Wish you the best
Erin, you know about MUGEN, but do you know of Beats of Rage? It came out as an indie Dreamcast game and is basically a sprite ripped Streets of Rage clone. So then the developer released OpenBOR and that’s what’s used to make the #1 game on this list! The bad news is that it’s as much of a home brew as MUGEN is, the good news is that much like MUGEN there’s Capcom-style beat em ups for almost any character you can think of! :)
MOTU *does* have a map. You just have to press the space-bar to bring it up. The game is impossible without it. Fascinating rundown of what's out there gamingwise anyway, thanks.
I grew up with the original franchise in the 80's as a kid and still go back and watch the show every one in a while. I found the remake a couple years back for free here and actually found it enjoyable as well , heck it even had the origin of Skeletor so yeah give it a watch if you haven't seen it.
I beat the Commodore 64 game today thats on spot 5 here. Yeah, its good good and bad at the same time. I like the concept, but those controls were sometimes torture.
I remember late at night years ago the channel Qubo had a programming block called Night Owl, where they showed back to back episodes of the old Filmation shows like He-Man, She-Ra, BraveStarr, Ghostbusters.
I'm a still a fan of He Man and Filmation Cartoons.. but when I was a kid, I liked She Ra more :) the Game which is your No1 is the best to me, as well
The Ileath stone one gives me PTSD XD, allthough i had it in a box it must've been faulty and started you in the swamp and no matter what you did, you couldn't get pass that screen, me and my buddy tried for hours, and for days before i decided to look it up... Odd. But that's the Commodore for ya'
I grew up with He-man and it was the Masters of the Universe toyline which spawned my love for the fantasy genre. That being said, with open world Rpg's being so popular, I'm amazed Mattel never put out an Elder Scrolls or Final Fantasy like game for He-man. It seems like it would be a no brainer.
Toy Soldiers War Chest- The Hall of Fame version is quite buggy, but it's still possible to play it offline and use the He-Man, Cobra and other add-ons. You have to restore your dlc licenses first, then disable internet, set the clock back to 2015 before starting the game.
I have a copy of Defender of Greyskull for PS2 and got the instruction booklet signed by Cam Clarke, who voiced He-Man in the 2002 series, on which that game is based. By the way, you mentioned wishing a He-Man arcade game had been made, and you may be interested to know that Bally/Midway was working on one in 1984. Brian Colin, who produced so much artwork for so many of their games at the time, said he saw concept artwork for it, but it never progressed much further than that into anything playable before it was canceled. It’s sad because that would have been an awesome game. Bally/Midway was one of the top arcade developers of their day.
It’s really a shame that He-Man hasn’t gotten proper video games, I agree. They need a good game. Maybe the two new Netflix series coming will help drive someone to make one.
Well, I knew some of the games you posted...some are new to me. However, it's awesome to see my nostalgic childhood memories reawakened thanks to this video. Plus my daughter is being introduced to this series thanks to me. She's a fan of the Netflix version of She-Ra too.
I used to collect He-Man action figures as a kid. Probably my favorite franchise at the time. Nice work with the video! Made me wanna try a few of these myself.
I LOVED He-Man as a kid, but its one of those franchises that peaked just before video games could really do it justice. By the time the NES had really taken over in the states, Ninja Turtle mania kind of are He-Man's lunch
I'm grateful my parents bought me some He-Man figures. They were the coolest stuff back then. I've played the C64, NES, and GBA games at some point but they never really matched the toys. The #1 fan game seems cool though, would be nice to test that one.
Teela: "Give us one good reason why we shouldn't you vanquish you to another dimension!" Skeletor: "Okay guys, hear me out: *Switching to GEICO can save you hundreds on car insurance."* He-Man: "I do like to save money." *_Catch you on the flip, suckaazzz!_*
The Masters of the Universe LCD game is a great implementation of the computer classic Hunt the Wumpus. It's the same game as the Dungeons and Dragons Computer Fantasy Game LCD. LCD games are one genre that started a lot better than they ended up.
I used to rush home from school every day at four o'clock back in the mid eighties to watch He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. Man those were the days!
I watched the animated He-man cartoon as a kid but barely remember it. I did see the live-action movie (and won a poster in some contest) then, too. It might be morbidly fun to watch such movie again (or something similarly cheesy like Kindergarten Cop 2).
I highly recommend checking out the 2002 series, it's absolutely fantastic. I also recommend checking out the DC Comics run from 2012, the crossover comics (Thundercats and Injustice, which makes me think you're right about He-Man being in Injustice 3), and the currently running Masters of the Multiverse series (a fantastic love letter to every incarnation of He-Man, and probably the best MOTU story to date' including Tappers He-Man, who's the best character in the franchise). Additionally, while controversial, I think the POP reboot's really good. It captures the feel good nature of the Filmation shows, but ups the stakes and updates things in clever ways, as well as having really great character development (it also takes inspiration from a ton of obscure things with Mara from New Adventures of He-Man showing up and a bunch of obscure things from foreign comics and audio dramas). Also, we're going to get a new He-Man series next year called Masters of the Universe: Revelations, which Kevin Smith is the showrunner for, and has Mark Hamill as Skeletor. Also, you should check out the Dark Horse books (the art book mentions that there's a new game in the works) as well as battleramblog.com. Finally, there's a new toyline called Masters of the Universe Origins coming out later this year (as well as a WWE crossover line that's already out). They're inspired by the vintage figures, but have more articulation (and will include new minicomics). Sorry, MOTU's been a bit of an obsession of mine for about the past year.
Fabulous video! Thank you for your service in playing and reviewing all of these so we don't have to. You should definitely check out that reboot cartoon; my favorite thing about it is the title sequence, so just look that up if you don't have time to commit to the whole series.
The 2002 He Man show was AWESOME. The only criticism I have is that the later half of the series kinda became a 20 minute Toy Commercial and the story became a bit light.
@6:07 you should. Imagine the original cartoon but written in mind for adults too. They even have the origin story for the 200X series here on youtube somewhere.
