I show you the proper conditions and techniques for great top water fishing. I fish a South Florida canal that is alive with bass and snook. Top water is the main deal but I have a back up plan as well!

I loved this video. I miss being home. Yea, most of South Florida is made of oolitic limestone. That's how that guy Ed Leedskalnin built the Coral Castle.. he quarried 5 to 30 ton lime stones to make the Castle Rock as he called it. Anyway.. its is very interesting to watch how salt water fish come into fresh water or brackish waters ways anyway..YEA..the Everglades, I don't know if it still considered the slowest moving river in the world, but I know it is about 60 miles wide and around 100 miles long.. one of the greatest places to fish. Thanks for sharing this Roland..You brought me some back in the day memories man..

I’ve had a distaste for RM since the 1990’s especially after the helicopter lure debacle. But I am really enjoying these less produced cheaper videos. They are heads and tails above the TV series. It has a relaxed feel, less salesman presentation and is just real. I think RM shines with this “face to face” conversation style rather than the elitist produced salesman style.

Top water fishing is my all time favorite. Favorite baits are Zara Spook, Lunkerhunt leopard frog, and Doug Hanna’s 12” black snake. Like you said Roland, calm water, low light, warmer water, and semi clear to clear water are ideal. I always tend to catch bigger fish on top water. Great video!

Dear Sir, I am enquiring as to the efficiency of your home made WHITE senko. To me it should be sensational. In Australia we have many grubs that appear as predominantly white and the senko could be cut into 3 pieces to emulate these insects. Was white a colour that seemed to work on your fish ? David Brown

Question... So I was watching this new young kid do a how to fish video. Mind you I grew up watching you. However this kid basically said unless you are using a Bait Caster Reel you will never catch the good fish. I honestly only have used a Spinning Reel. With all that being said he tried to give a crash course on how to use a Bait Casting Reel which I liked. But it was way short and my question is can you do a how to video for a Bait Caster. The Kid said good things but was so fast that I am a bit lost. Your videos are a bit slower and geared to more of my generation.
@JohnnyQuestFishing
@JohnnyQuestFishing 5 лет назад
Just as a note my friend, the day you catch the biggest fish of your life, Its gonna be on what ever you are fishing with that day. Two things to share with you. One, NO, you don't need a bait caster to catch the good ones, but you do need to use right line, rod, and reeling speed depending on what you are doing, that is not to say using the correct lure and colour. And two, the biggest fish I have ever caught was a Goliath Grouper with a 160 lbs mono on a hand line and YoYo, 270 lbs while living in Florida back in the 80s.. Now as for using the bait caster. I am sure Mr Martin will make a video that will be worth watching, but wanted to share this experience with you, because a lot of folks out there will say many things and all to their own opinions. Just like some folks like using certain brands, certain types of line, or even certain knots for tying hooks, they will express only their experience. With that note, if all you have ever used is spinning tackle, there is nothing wrong with that at all. .some of the biggest fish on the planet have been caught on what we don't even imagine.. the US Record Bass of 22lbs and 4oz was caught in 1932 by a fisherman fishing a fintail shinner and he wasn't even trying to catch the biggest fish.. he was out getting dinner.. LoL..Good luck my friend and Tight Lines

I found that snook are the closest thing to freshwater largemouth I've ever seen. The mouth is exactly the same, in fact you can lip them just like a bass, and use the exact same techniques, too. I used a Super Fluke in white, weightless, and totally MURDERED them on spinning tackle. I'm told that the meat is DELICIOUS too, but unfortunately they have a law that restricts when you can actually take one, so I'll never know:(

ok so yesterday at a lake the water temp was low 50s but i had a storm front moving in with overcast skies the bass hit nothing on top water no whopper plopper no top water had a pretty good wind going with lots of chop on the water i did catch bass off of a black worm and caught both trout and bass off a rooster tail. How would you fish a lake with wind over cast skies and water in the lower 50s? also i brought a bucket to take the trout home with , and it had a bubble machine and all the trout died even with a bubble box the outside air temp was 72 did they get too hot in the bucket and how would you transport rainbows so that the live?

Water temps in the low 50's makes everything tough and eliminates some patterns like topwater!
