What started as a basic filter change turned into a bit of a mission transmission! How the cause happened I don't know as I've never driven the car yet, but at least we managed to find and solve the issue, and give the valve body a clean..... and what was that on my filter...?? Thanks for watching ....SGG

Sterling camera and editing work that we've come to expect from SG. Also, it's rare to find RU-vidrs (who are not professionals) tackle an automatic transmission failure. Well done!

Thankyou Robert, I appreciate it. You've got to have a try at stuff... the worst you can do is break something, but if its broken already then you've not lost anything 😁😁👍🏻

Thanks Jon. Got a few other bits and bobs to do first, then give her a good clean then she'll be out 👍🏻😉

It's a good idea to clear the transmission cooling lines with compressed air whenever you service the system. Beautiful car, needs a soapy scrub. Top job George.

Thankyou Bob, I do my best to give good camera close ups, and to show and explain how easy it actually is to do these jobs yourself without needing specialised tools or the need to take it to a shop. If I can do it - anyone can 😁😁 I'm just a Fred in the shed keeping these old girls rolling, I have no background in mechanics, just self taught or what I've picked up over the years whilst tinkering 😁👍🏻 SGG 😎

Hi ! Just found you, because of Swede Machine! went thru your whole menu. 68 yellow Charger, 1966 Red Coronet, 66 gold Coronet, 1968 Dodge Polara Yellow/White. 1955 Oldsmobile, another 1968 Polara, 318 V 8 Brown, 1968 Mustang Blue, why didn't you finish this one ? 1973 Green Scamp slant 6, no real ending on this one. Chrysler Newport, 1972 Brown, 1972 Blue New Yorker, I really liked this one. 1966 white New Yorker, my father in law had one it had a 383 V 8, Now that I used all your Vlogs I need more, I love them all, Keep up the good work. I'm glad you got a house with your own garage! All the best to you , Bob,s your Uncle, Job Job, Sorted George, or Just Julian, Thanks Mark Arizona, retired here. Hey Mark! Thanks for looking in 👍 Sorry for the delayed reply.... 68 Yellow Charger was a #'s matching 440 R/T. Red 66 Coronet was a joint project with a friend, but through a divorce bought me out. 68 Coronet sold for same reason. Yellow 68 Polara 4dr HT was my 1st project after nearly 8 years so I was just starting to get back in to the swing of things 😃 55 Olds my wife loved but sadly wasn't really my thing. 68 Polara coupe was lovely. I enjoyed getting to grips with that car, and I ended up swapping it for the 68 Mustang, which was a solid old girl, but we sold that to buy our 1st house which had a garage 😊 73 Scamp, the guy who had the Polara Coupe stopped by and wanted to buy it from me, so he finished it and put a V8 in it. 72 Newport was lovely, so was the 72 New Yorker (which I believe was an original 17,000 mile car) and now I have the 66 New Yorker. She's a sweet ride! I've got some filming to do now as the engine is out (shhh 🤫) so there'll be a series of them soon I promise! 😉 My videos have got better over the years, as has my camera work 🤣 but I try and do these videos as a sort of tutorial for people who have wanted to do this sort of thing but never had the knowhow, and for the younger generation who are probably used to injection engines and plugging in a laptop to the dashboard 😃 These old Mopars are a joy to work on, they were built to last and are able to be fixed rather than just replaced like cars and their parts nowadays 👍 Enjoy Arizona my friend and thankyou for watching and commenting, I appreciate it. All the best, Julian. SGG. Job Jobbed! 😄

George! Well done! That's quite a rare one. You know, those cars wore very well at high miles. You never who was driving it I suppose. "Hey mom, can I take the Car to the library to study...this Saturday night?" Also, since that car comes from the Palmetto State (a.k.a. South Carolina) that bug, definitely from the roach family but down there, they can group up to several and sometimes as much as 6 inches long. Affectionately known as the "palmetto bug" or a "water bug". I know you may already know this but, over here, for the past several years, we've noticed the quality of the points AND the condensers to be lousy. They start in a fair range sometimes, but I've measure new condensers that are far below the acceptable range. This usually forces the dwell to drop out and the sure sign is the way that car is starting. If memory serves me, the '66 Service manual, says a condenser should measure something between 24 and 28 microfarads. I've seen them from (you know where) new at 18 or 19. There isn't enough stored energy to do more than start a car. Just sharing what I have over here. I have found the "blue Streak" equivalent over here from Rock Auto and they're made in Mexico. They might be just as bad as the rest I'm afraid. NOS I think, if you can find it, is the only way to go now unless you can find one there. You can use a 28 mfd as long as it's rated to 600Vots. I have enjoyed your channel sir! That's because I'm a '66 nut case. BTW, I don't know if the 440 came with the nylon covered timing chain gear or not. I know the HP 383s and the Hemi did not...but I don't know about the 440. Here was my yt on that from last year: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-cJugIrXa5Ww.html Take care!

I thought for sure you bent the old pan and then had to buy a new one -- nice paint job on the old one. I have a Torqueflight in my 74 Dart -- they're good transmissions. Cheers!

That's what happened to me the first time I changed the fluid and filter for my '67 Sport Fury a million years ago. Put up with the mess for a long time, but one day, it occurred to me to buy a cheap hand pump and run the pick up down the filler tube and pump out as much of the fluid as I could get out so when the pan came off, the mess was a good bit less. Definitely learned something today about what happens when the shift selector is run through its detents. Since the fluid looked remarkably clean, I wonder if the transmission had been serviced and whatever happened with that led to the shifter problem and the premature retirement of the car?
@SortedGeorgeGarage
@SortedGeorgeGarage Год назад
A hand pump sounds like a good idea Patrick... I never thought of that! (you see, you pick up tips and tricks all the time 😃) I did initially add some fluid to the transmission as it was low, but I also was wondering if this had anything to do with the car's retirement. Someone said to me perhaps it happened during shipping?! (Taking it out of Park to push the car and just slamming the shifter down to 1?) It's a possibility 😳 We'll never know 😁 SGG 👍🏻
