Oh sis that last phrase was complete magic!!! Ah goodness the passion and control there (all of it) was spectacular! Thank you for the breathing spots too. Makes sense. I’ll be performing that this weekend
Garanca really was a great Octavian, wasn't she? Sexy and very funny when she had to play Octavian in drag as a girl. She actually behaved like a young man would who was having fun playing a woman. And then there was her exquisite singing! I wish I could see her play Amneria in a well directed, well produced "Aïda."
@@unclealand However "well-directed and well-produced" an Aïda production may be, you still need a talented and skilled dramatic mezzo to sing Amneris... which Garança isn't.
I ve heard Garanca live and her voice sound much of a soprano ,not a lyric of course , she goes very hight for a mezzo ,can anyone confirm or am i wrong?
@@draganvidic2039 Nonsense. As you can hear in this recording, her voice is at it's most powerful and beautiful in the middle range and keeps it's rather dark colour throughout the range. Ugh, all of these self-named specialists!
"Vissi d'arte" ¡SI y basta ! No el rol completo de TOSCA. Armando Cerutti - barítono
The fact that she was at the masterclass with Nilsson doesn't mean anything. Nilsson is not a vocal pedagogue of any kind, or someone who can teach voices, much less classify them. And please stop associating dramatic voices with Wagner. Most of the female roles in his operas are beautiful, tender, feminine lyric voices.
anybody who knows anything about voice knows that Garanca is actually a soprano lol. Who are you kidding? It was clear back then. It's clear now. Everybody knows it. Nilsson knew it. @@marieantoinette3857
According to my tuning fork, she actually did sing it a half tone lower than written, so her high B-flat is actually an A. Arias can be sung like this, but not entire roles.
@@mugrad25 Her voice is worn out. Born a spinto soprano but trained as a lyric mezzo, a voice category that doesn’t really exist. Now trying dramatic mezzo parts and sings soprano arias. Nothing went right with her voice.
I was sayimg a mezzo cant sustain the high tessitura like a soprano. Though i think this is was a sylistic choice for garanca. Shes been the Amneris lately which is high for a mezzo. Maybe she's saving her high notes for that
@@OperaMyWorld you think she could sustain a high tessitura for an entire opera...with all the dynamic changes and shadings on high bflat, high Bs and Cs?
Why tranposed... It's very well known aria and it's very obvious. If you can't sing it in the original key, better don't sing it at all. And what are you afraid of.. it's not that high, Elena Obraztsova, a dramatic mezzo, sang this in the original key.
Tessitura--the best-sounding part of a singer's voice with regard to timbre--is the determining factor. She certainly has the capability to sing the aria in the original key. That is not the point. For her voice, the aria sounds better in a lower key. Singing is not a competitive sport.
Transposed or not really doesn’t matter to me. We opera lovers can be very critical and picky as is our right as listeners. Sometimes you just have to tip your cap to these people that have the ability to sing this genre of music. Relatively few people in this world have the desire ability and god given talent to perform on this level. I think in my opinion she does a great job. She sings this with great emotion and that counts also. Sure I prefer a soprano over a mezzo in this, I love Tebaldi’s version but I like to be open minded about it.
I desperately wanted to like this. I do like her phrasing, but it feels too heavy and slow for Tosca. Elina is a wonderful mezzo, but just because you can sing an aria doesn’t IMHO you should
