Awesome vid, such a sweet hidden gem commander! I was eyeballing a build for a Toshiro Umezawa deck back in 2019 and was finally able to build it in 2020, and its probably one of my favourite decks to date ! I went with a different-ish build where I included a sub-type of Demons as my creatures in the deck (big Daddy D, Reaper of the Abyss, Harvester of Souls, Liliannas Contract etc.) , as well as a Voltron overlay with cards like Lashwrithe and Nightmare Lash for those sweet swamp buffs on Toshiro. What better way to swing in on a clear field from all those instant deaths! Its been emblematically dubbed in my playgroup as the Sad Toshi and the Bois deck. Keep it up with the smooth format, your descriptions of the cards are so clear and concise and its a pleasure to listen to. Super jealous of that foiled Toshi!

Great video, love the vibe. Been wanting to build Toshiro for a long time and this definitely pushed it to the top of my list. I want to go full Samurai Necromancer though! Necromantic Selection, Rise of The Dark Realms, etc.

This was very relaxing to watch, and filled the curiosity I had towards Toshiro. Definitely peaked my interest as a potential replacement for my Tergrid Group Slug deck in the case she gets banned as some of the cards I have in that deck are also here! It's between this and a K'rrik Shadowborne Apostles deck for something different, or the new Gisa if I decide to keep it in the similar theft realm. We shall see!

Love this deck, i built it for myself a couple of months ago, a great deal of the inspiration came from your previous articles on this deck :) Some cards I can recommend in here: Thought Distortion: nails the control/combo decks we're weak against Fated Return: Expensive, but it's been a blowout every time I've cast it Revel in Riches: Ramp and a wincon in one Victory Chimes: We get the most out of this Karn, Silver Golem: Lets us remove artifacts No Mercy: protects our life total, or triggers Umezawa Keep up the great work!

Love the dech tech! I know this might not be a popular opinion but I loved the Kamigawa block and Toshiro has been one of my favs forever. As for the style and pacing on the video I'm also on board. Excited to see more.

In fact, if a card is particularly involved or obscure, I'd ideally like to have the actual card text read out in full as well, as this means I don't have to tab back into my youtube window and pause the video in order to read the card in question This is a very good format, please keep it coming :)

Shred memory seems like it would be amazing in this deck as a way to find your finishers and all sorts of removal and act as graveyard hate which you can access even after transmuting!

Looking forward to getting my Toshiro deck to the table again soon. Keen to play with Rise of the Dread Marn to see if it's worth adding - I like the idea of having an extra army of chump blockers that can spread some damage around if needed.

14:11 it is worth noting that while you can cast Necrologia from your graveyard using Toshiro Umezawa, you can only do so during the end step: Toshiro's ability can't get around Necrologia's timing restriction.

The list is sweet!!!!! no imp's mischief? it seams like a great inclution for protection and can even give you an extra trigger by changing the target of a kill spell to a creature an opponent controls.

Hey, Tomer You said you were looking to cut ancient craving. and i saw in up to that point you had neglected to mention moonlinght bargin is that not just better cos it goes 5 deep and lets you fill you graveyard while also being an instant so you can use it again with toshiro umezawa?

Why not Arcane Signet over the Star compass? Besides price wise it just seems generally better. Sweet deck though, I'll be looking forward to watching more of these if you continue!

I wanted to build this deck a couple of years back but I built Seizan perverter of truth instead... I've also got the kamigawa lands in there, you know they make a panorama right all the basics from the kamigawa sets do that. Have you considered running spoils of evil? Or shrouded lore, you can get anything back with that.

Love the deck tech, super chill and relaxing while also entertaining. Question about Toshiro, how does this deck do against decks that may not be creature heavy? I see artifact, enchantment, control, etc. in my meta that are pretty creature light and I'm wondering if that just shuts him down?

This looks like a very cool deck. I was on edhrec, clicked the random commander button and found this commander. Which has had me brewing the past couple days. I was wondering why you aren't playing any late game mass resurrection cards. There are a couple if ways to search for your Cabal Coffers as well (I believe expedition map). I think Revel In Riches also deserves a spot it this deck. Other than some better mana rocks, and maybe more tutors, what are some upgrades you would recommend?

I also read the books back in the day and Wizards did our boy Toshi dirty! Spoiler alert!!! At the end of the book The Myojin of Night's Reach planeswalked Toshiro to the edge of a swamp in Dominaria (or so we've been told. There she left him blind after he prevented the plane of Kamigawa from being tore apart by O-Kagachi. #nojusticeforToshi They really need to go back there so we can know what has happened in the last however many years it has been. Is Michiko and her sister (Spirit version of her) ruling Kamigawa still? There really should be some classic story telling like they used to.

This is really neat deck, have you considered szat's will or revel in riches? The former is another edict style removal spell with the ability to make blockers, and the ladder could be great ramp and maybe even a wincon.
