I was getting bored with my Total Gym and was going to sign up for a gym membership to get a better workout, THEN I FOUND YOUR VIDEOS! The upside down bicep curls hit the spot. I got a pump I didn't think was possible on this machine. Thank you for being awesome and saving me gym membership money!
I'm a 51 year old Long Haul trucker and I use my Total Gym on the road daily. Your videos have shown me new ways to get the absolute best out of my machine and myself. Thank you
Hey man, I just found out I’m diabetic with no insurance. For now I’m sticking to a strict diet, working out, and small amounts of insulin until it’s reversed to a point where it’s manageable. I just wanted to say thank you for a clear and concise video. You’re making content that literally helps and you need praise for that! Keep it up brother
Thanks Ken. Sorry for the delay, but I noticed for some reason this comment was "flagged" by RU-vid on my end. Just wanted to say thanks for the heartfelt comment.
April 5th 2023. I had a severe heart attack. It called Ventricular Tachycardia. My heart rate was stuck at 210+ beats per minute. When I arrived at the hospital and within seconds I was surrounded in Heart Failure room by at least 20 medical pros. Doctor comes in and tells me if they don't shock I am going die. They gave something in the hopes it would know me out but time was against all of us. I was wide awake for the shock and wow what a surreal experience. So I have been in recovery for some time and I am finally ready to start working out again. Prior to the heart attack I was in good condition. Now however as a man that worked out with 200+ pounds on the bench press and many other exercises that for a long time I could no longer do. In fact it is July 7th 2024 and I have never felt so weak in strength. I have now dusted off my Total Gym 1700 Club ( I know its borderline ancient but its all I have) and ready to begin again. I write this to you because this workout you have posted is going to get me close to what I was. Not sure if I will ever have the strength I used to have but I am determined to be able to do this work out to completion. I was not able to complete it today and not 20 but 10 reps. I thank you for this and all your other workouts you post here.
The first Total Gym I saw was in a "rehab" in Texas where I worked as new Nurse. We have lots of patients from bull riders, truck drivers, oli field workers, & assorted motor vehicle acc. & athletes. The Total Gym is designed to move limbs that have have been damaged & need TLC. I was so impressed, I bought mine when the Patriots were playing the Colts in 2003. It is still used weekly at my house along with kettle bells of varing weights. BTW: I came to appreciate rehab after I went thru in in 1987 & 1989. My career changed after that!
Wow love these short workouts. You're the expert. Purchased the 90 handles and was amazed how much better my back is engaged. Put on pull-up bar and very sore afterwards. Thanks very much Mike.
A friend lent me this machine because they barely use it and they knew I would. It was taking up space at their place so they offered it to me(xls). I am not new to the total gym, I have the 1000 but never got around to buying a new pulley since the last one snapped. I was doing park calisthenics around that time anyway and it was nice outside, so it didn't seem worth it. Now it's winter and I got this machine again so I will put it to good use. I was not trying to do the Q cards so I'm glad I came across your channel and this video. I must say you have renewed the reasoning of why I fell in love with the total gym in the first place. All theses versatile movements for every body part are only limited to your imagination. This was my first circuit of 2023 and your video did not disappoint 🙌 😁 The rear delt flys were my favorite at 20:36 To anyone considering doing theses exercises seriously be careful. I fell on my face at 18:44 just around the time he said be careful. Layed there for a sec and died of laughter 🤣. Thank you for that. Subscribed and 😅👍
Thanks for that comment and happy you liked it. I have to admit I've crashed a few times that ended in laughter. It's probably worth making a video stressing to be careful.
Hey I just wanted to take a minute and tell you how much I appreciate you taken the time to make these videos what an awesome resource I have a library of your videos so I can do a new one everyday and keep it fresh thanks!!
Thanks Ben. I really appreciate people like you reaching out and taking the time to share how the channel has helped you. Best in the New Year. I should put another workout video up within the week or so.
I got a well used Total Gym for $100 and its been great. If you look at it, they're actually pretty simple machines. I can easily change/upgrade pullies, roller, etc to keep this thing going year after year. And since its a steel from I could even weld it if needed.
Thanks for the vid. Just getting back into this. Let myself go just busy with the kids. Kids are grown. No more excuses. I’m about 55 lbs overweight. This was my first workout in years. Kicked my butt.
Mike, I love the challenging workouts like the 30, 20, 10. I wasn't satisfied with the Total Gym until I looked online and found yours and Rosalie Brown. Thanks for what you do!
20 min. Workout? Thats a goal. I'm 67, i think its going to take me longer than that. I'll have to take my nap first.lol Just baught my total gym. Thanks for the video. Now i just got to keep motivated.
This really sold me on buying one of these I haven’t even seen the rest of your videos but I seriously went through almost ten before this one including a short chuck norris add and you blew them all out the water with this one 🤙
Cardio-resistance. Gotta luv it. I appreciate your videos, helping me to finally use my 25 year old total gym for something other the a clothes hanger. Not going to lie, the manual hedge trimmer and limb loper are disconcerting😅. Motivation tools for your private training sessions?
Used to own a Total Gym. If I had found the this channel I may have kept it. Thinking it would to good to do circuits like this wearing a weighted vest for more resistance.
Subbed a couple of weeks ago in anticipation of getting my GR8FLEX. I decided that was the best for me after watching your comparison vid. Definately made the right choice for me over the TotalGym. In the UK here, so had to hold tight for it to reach me from the US... Just wanted to say thanks for your awesome vids... Only been a week using GR8FLEX so far, but your vids have gotten me up n running real quick with some solid programs that are already hitting the mark. Thanks again for sharing these vids..Best on YT by a long mile ..They've made my transition from decades of weights to this glide board system way easier than I expected... Wish I'd done it years ago .
Great workout. It’s so helpful to see your form and angles you work from. I have an issue I have come across twice. Once with my older TG and now with my current. When I pull the cables 1 side catches for a second providing a moment of more resistance compared to the other cable. My cables are clean. The pulleys seem fine. Any thoughts? Thanks
I would love to do that. Probably would have to pull the trigger on getting better / location for such videos. This is really a "shotgun" operation. I got and want to do so much, but just struggle with creating time to implement. I appreciate that support / feedback though.
Like the workout. One comment though. Try doing hamstring curls with the Wing attachment turned upside down. Then pulling with your hamstrings while holding the handles for stability. Saw this on a video by Skylar King.
It really depends on the exercise, any additional load, and your own body weight but I’d say the average for upper body is 15 reps at a moderate tempo.
My total gym only goes up to level 6 but i just got it, and its old, what is a good workout for both building abs and losing weight this video helped me so much with everything else whats a good core workout?
The problem with the total gym is that theres no eccentric work, almost no negative load, which is where 80% of muscle growth is activated. These machines are good for recovery and injuries though.
It really depends on the exercise and angle you're working at in my opinion, but I agree the eccentric is lacking. Using for 3 years 2020-2023 as my main for of resistance training as well as client / viewer feedback, I can attest you can still work/build muscles with it. One simple method I would do is attach band tension for that added negative on certain movements. great comment thank you
Hi, been subbed for a little while, looking to start using my tg again, just a quick question.. Is there anymore benefit to doing the exercises at a slower pace and slowly push and pull so the muscles are under tension etc for longer each rep? If you see what I mean? Great channel.
I've made a couple videos talking about that here's one ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WxqVr16m7zM.html but over all there's pros and cons to a variety of rep speeds. Even in this workout, I had varying speeds on different exercises. Thanks for watching
Just found your channel and am digging it! Just broke out my total gym again from a long break due to Covid. This looks like a great routine to get my body back in the game. How many days a week would you recommend doing this routine? Would 3 days (Mon/Wed/Fri) be ideal? Again loving your content and look forward to diving in!
It really depends. If it's not too stressful for you, you could do it 3-4x a week. I didn't do this specific one , but would do something similar with much less exercises about 3-4x a week from over a span of 2 years.
Glad I found your channel. I have a Weider brand piece of equipment, which is a total gym knock off. Can much of this (or other exercises) be mirrored with it? Or are there specific exercises for that bench?
Thanks brother. Here's a fairly recent video where I broke out my Weider for a workout. But yes, you certainly can mirror it where it counts. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mF-sVCl2CBI.html
I recently purchased a Total Gym XForce. I have it out in my garage. My question to you is this. In order to do the chest workouts, do you have to raise the incline? I am very out of shape and right now work on the 5th resistance level. I need help in my arms badly and want to strengthen my shoulders and chest a lot. Is raising the incline the key to getting a great workout? Thanks!
You certainly don't have to raise the incline. You can lower it and work with what you got. You can use your feet to help dissipate the weight a bit as well. I wouldn't even worry about raising the machine, just focus on doing whatever you have to to make it harder or dial up the tension on your muscles. Here's a video on positions you might find helpful ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5TPFOnEh1xI.html
I'd probably throw in at least a one rest day or alternate physical activity in the middle there to give your muscles a break. But you could, you'd just have to mess with varying the resistance and overall intensity to not overwork the muscles.
Possibly a strange question but how tall are you and how much do you weigh? Just bought my first Total Gym which arrives on Tuesday and worried my 6' frame won't fit.
I honestly haven't put anything on other than windex occasionally to spray down and clean the rails. But I'd just use something like this amzn.to/3C5sRMb
I would personally it up a bit more but you try this 2-3x a week. Here's a video summarizing my programming on a TG ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PVIopw8Hpzc.html
Yes, but as with any fitness tool, it really depends on the context (goals, bodyparts worked, budget, space, etc). Feel free to ask me more questions though.
It really depends on exercise to exercise, but short answer is you just have to manipulate other variables (more reps, sets, frequency, adding bands/weights). Of course my best recommendation I can give is to use these machines in conjunction with other home gym equipment for the total package.
I did it in October around this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-y1YnaODBqXU.html . Really because it was getting colder out and I realized I could make it work and still use the garage space.
I appreciate it brother. I always had good arm genetics, but I'm really doing nothing different on a TG than what I was doing at the gym. I can replicate cable tension, band tension, and add external weight weight these machines. There's really nothing special about the these machines. It's more about what you bring to the machine as with any fitness device. Of course it has its limitations though.
I don't do these exact follow along workouts ( I actually made a few videos explaining why) but the bulk of my home gym resistance training from 2020 until about a couple months ago was done on these types of machines. The machines look weird, but all I'm not doing anything different than what you can do with weights. Just loading basic exercises for reps/resistance.
