A 10-minute total plank challenge consisting of 10 different variations of the plank exercise to work your core from every angle. This core plank routine is a great ab workout for women or fo men and is an awesome way to build core muscle definition and strength. Keep reading for more!

As a doctor of physical therapy, planks are some of my most-often recommended exercises for people to improve their core strength. They are a great static contraction that works on core strength and spine stability all at once.
You have four “main” abdominal muscles in your body - the rectus abdominis (6-pack muscle), the internal and external obliques, and the transverse abdominis (your deepest abdominal layer). This workout will challenge each individual muscle group both statically and dynamically as we introduce different motions and movements with different plank variations.
All the planks that I’m doing in this video can be easily modified by dropping to your knees and performing modified versions. We’re all on this journey together; some are just at different levels than others. The goals is that you stay consistent, encourage each other, and just keep trying!
Here’s the whole workout for you:
You’ll hold each of the following planks for 30 seconds and then repeat one more time without a break. Make sure you leave me a comment the time of how far into the challenge you were able to go!
1. FRONT PLANK: Classic low plank position on elbows and toes. Keep your abs engaged and your back flat.
2. LEFT SIDE PLANK: On your left elbow and outside of your left foot. Keep your hips high and your back in a straight line.
3. RIGHT SIDE PLANK: On your right elbow and outside of your right foot. Back should be straight here as well.
4. PLANK WITH MARCH: Holding a solid low plank while alternating lifting your toes up off the floor.
5. UP/DOWN PLANK: Starting in a low plank position, you’ll raise up onto your hands to get into a tall plank position and then return to the start.
6. THREAD THE NEEDLE LEFT PLANK: Start in a left side plank. With your right hand reach towards the ceiling and then under your left side as far as you can.
7. THREAD THE NEEDLE RIGHT PLANK: Start in a right side plank. With your left hand reach towards the ceiling and then under your right side as far as you can.
8. FRONT PLANK: Classic low plank position on elbows and toes. Keep your abs engaged and your back flat.
9. ALTERNATING SHOULDER TAP PLANK: Great for core stability as you are constantly altering your base of support. Your core works harder with each tap you perform.
10. ALTERNATING T PLANK: Combining lateral planks with front planks while including rotary motion! Great finisher to our set!
Planks are a great way to increase core strength and stability. Performing these exercises regularly will help strengthen and tone your abs and help you chase down your fitness goals!

I am still working on the 8 minute plank. Just hit 5 mins. Age 66. When I get to a full 8 minutes, then I will switch to this 10 minuter.

Good news. I just broke the six minute mark. This is after one month of doing this routine every morning. The surprising thing is that I'm losing weight and getting toned up. My friends have been mentioning the difference in how I look. Great routine. My plan is to continue The eight minute challenge until I hit the eight minute mark and then switch over to this 10 minute routine.

I always did 60 x 2 sit ups for years until my back began to ache. So I started Jared’s plank challenge and my back pain disappeared. I’m 70, not boasting, but found even after the 10 minute challenge I could do 30 press-ups. Thanks Jared. You’ve motivated me. Much appreciated.

I am doing the 8 mins and 10 mins plank daily from last 25 days.. this is the only physical exercise i do in the whole day.. Yesterday when i looked at my side obliques, I was so pleasantly surprised. I have never been in better shape. Thank you Jared!

I am 63 yrs of age. I typically do your 8 minute plank workout about 3 times a week. Today, I did your 10 minute plank workout. It was at times a challenge, but with your guidance, I accomplished the entire plank workout. I plan to alternate with your plank workouts to continue to keep my core strengthen. Love this workout! Did the 8 minute plank challenge 3 times a week for 2 weeks, then upped it to the 10 minute one today. Totally awesome workout. My core is looking better and my low back pain is pretty much gone! Not an easy workout but so worth the effort. By the way I turned 60 in September so you can teach an old dog new tricks!!

Im 15 and the skinnyest guy in my year. Ive been doing your 8 minute plank challenge for 3 months and after doing all 8 minutes ever night for a week, i leveled up to the 10 minute workout. This is helping me so much physicsaly and mentaly and i just wanted to say thankyou! 🙌

I’m 64, male, and I’ve been doing your 8 minute plank for about 6 months and now I feel I have a little more juice left after 8 minutes. So I tried your 12 minute challenge and I found it’s a bit too much to handle. So I tried your 10 minute and it’s just about right. In a few months when I feel I’m charged enough, I’ll upgrade to the 12 minute. Thanks a lot for your help to keep myself in shape! 🙏

I did a good 6 min plus. The alternating T plank got me. Trying to switch from side to side is more difficult than it seems.

I love this plank challenge. I add it to the end and beginning of a lot of my workouts (usually about 4times a week )It’s simple moves and works all areas of the core. No need to look for others when this one is straight to the point and a great challenge. I’ve shared it with friends and my son who’s a bodybuilder and he enjoys it too. I have discovered these planks variations videos not too long ago. At first the 8 min plank was really hard but I stayed consistent and now I am able to hit the 10min one. Basicly I alternate everyday between those two. Results on your body are immediat. I have gained more than weight lifting. Thanks for this.

Im 23 and im doing workout for past 3-4 years @home. I did 10 mins of core workout and again did this 10 mins plank challenge. Done! Love the commentary! I have been writing my own plank challenges for myself and I find it really effective to remain on the same side for the oblique work. I.e. go from side plank pulses on forearm directly into side plank pulses from your hand on the same side...mad burn!

Hey Jared, really appreciate your work and have recommended your channel generally - but most notably the plank series to many friends and challenged my squash team to get going with 8 and 10 minute ones. I do this 10 minutes daily and have done for months now, and I now add the hip dips to all of the side planks. I always find ways to improve on form and it never ceases to challenge. Kudos, and hope you are well!

Made it w/o pausing. The larger motions (thread the needle, marching planks, etc.) are more work, but make the seconds fly by. 12 minute challenge next, after 10 minutes becomes easier. Thanks for the challenges, Jared!!

Did the 8-minute challenge about (20) times, and just tried the 10-minute. Finished the entire thing, but my form was a little sloppy. Looking forward to mastering this one too. Thanks, Jared. This is wonderful.

We’ve (age 65 and 61) been doing your 8 minute plank challenge for 9 months now. Tried this one for the first time today. It was fun for a change. The T- rotation planks are a bit tricky, feel unsteady. Will need to improve our techniques! Thank you for keeping it challenging and safe.

I do this 'total plank challenge' once a week. This was the fifth time I did this challenge. I couldn't finish the first two times(6/7 minutes), but the last 3 times I succeeded. I never had a gym-membership. I appreciate these videos and are useful for me at home. It definitely helps me get in shape.

I’ve been doing your 8 minute planks and decided to do the 10 minute planks today. I was able to complete the 10 minutes however my shoulders hurt more than anything else. I liked the series of planks and was very happy to get to 9 minutes because the last two were easier on my shoulders. Thanks for a great video.

Hi Jared, thanks for your gratis course! Helped mehr through our Corona-caused lock-down of the fitness center. I had checked a lot of plank videos, but yours was the first that kind of made fun. Any ideas for a 12 min workout? I have to fight, just feel I could endure a little bit more still .. Or is it a sign I am not doing it correctly, not enough tension during the 10 minutes?
