Nice Review as always! Exceptional Video! Way to go "Camera Crew". The high pylon mounted engine causes some interesting flight characteristics. When you are flying slow and slam the throttle to full, it causes the nose to dip till the wing gets going fast enough to fly level again. Doing touch-n-goes or aborted landings, its best to ease in the throttle rather than slam it full to the stops. I think this effect may have been what happened on your "unexpected" landing. You added throttle and the plane landed instead of pointing up and accelerating. The one and only time I tried to hand launch mine, it nosed down right after launch and "landed" pretty hard. The other interesting effect from the high mounted engine is that it will do an AMAZING stalled rotation around it's wing tips. Get plenty of altitude and then enter an inverted snap and hold full down elevator with high throttle and the plane will rotate around the wing axis. Release flight controls to neutral to recover. Try it - you're gonna like it. Sure would have been nice to have had a 4S LiPo option.

I have the older smaller version of this seawind. You are spot on about easing in the throttle on low and slow passes. It's great on the water, I've made 100's of flights on the lake with mine.

Hi Brian. I really enjoyed your review of the new Seawind from Tower Hobbies. I have the original version of this RC aircraft and if you want to get some really really great video, find a lake near you that has a boat ramp. The plane is amphibious. It means you can drive it down from the boat ramp into the water retract the landing gear fly, land, come back, extend the landing gear and drive back up on the boat ramp. That would be a really cool video. Hope you shoot it.

We are building a pond - we literally have a couple hundred thousand pounds of equipment sitting, waiting for our county to sign off on the permits. When the pond is done, we'll be looking at doing this type of review, for sure! As for the BOAT RAMP, yeah, that would be so dang cool, since the road into the water would make it so smooth!

Yes, I'm sorry if I had made it seem like I wasn't aware of this. It's a SWEET plane in full scale too! I'd LOVE to get one. The concept of flying from water OR dry ground is gear exactly for my persona. I love being prepared for anything, so what better than a plane that can takeoff or land ANYWHERE ;) ( I guess they call those helicopters - LOL )

A full size one of these recently crashed, killing the pilot, in the Seattle area. I cant wait to see you flying off your new pond! I love flying boats, and amphibious planes. I fly my Albatross HU-16 off grass, water, snow, etc.

Yeah, except the Rudder - gotta make sure you loosen the grub screw and let it STAY UP...something I didn't do, and shared. Mine is fine though. Should be a 5 minute fix, but been running like CRAZY, since we left for Alabama RIGHT after filming this video (series).

It really looks like the height of the engine over the center line is the cause of the delay rate of control. Nice plane for an intermediate flyer.

This is an old plane sold by flyzone (pre eflite), manufactured by ST model, they still have the legendary beaver in their range.

I have the older Flyzone version of this plane. It’s definitely a goofy flying experience. The amphibious feature is a neat idea but the mechanism for the retracts is pretty awful and completely unserviceable. The servos in this plane buzz constantly. My rudder also broke, as well as the front gear mechanism. I ended up just converting it to a dedicated sea/snow belly plane which it does ok at. I wouldn’t buy another one though. Thanks for sharing though as always!

Do you know if they made any improvements over the original? The original had some foibles and weaknesses. Mine is still in good shape and has been flown both on land and water. BTW, the normal characteristic nose pithing with throttle changes is reversed from a tractor plane because of the motor placement.

If you break the nose gear on a rough landing you will be hard pressed to repair it. It’s not a easy fix! Good luck!

It would be fun in the snow and with the blaze orange you could see it well. So when I’m going to buy a Spektrum transmitter, receiver and batteries from Tower that you haven’t got I link I can find, is there a way?
