Towing a Motorcycle with Toyota Prius 2nd Gen (2004-2009) 

I rented this motorcycle trailer from Uhaul many times. I am not sure with bigger trailers, but this is their lightest trailer and they do allow it. You can select Prius on their website when you make reservation

@@IgorKadulenkov Is that the 4’x7’ trailer? Must be using it locally? They don’t allow one way moves with that trailer. If you want to do a one way move you have to get the 5’x9’ and I doubt they would allow me to tow that with my Prius.. not sure I’d want to because 1240 lb empty trailer and a 360 lb bike would be a 1600 lb tow.

Surprisingly, Prius’s transmission is pretty tough. Supposedly it should take up to 2000lbs and 200lb lip weight. I could definitely feel the trailer in turns, bumps or when braking. It’s a light car,but very capable. Yes I was going at about 60-65. It was slow on acceleration and hard on climbs.

@@IgorKadulenkov its slower even as is let alone trailer. But yes...capable for size and power it has. Much better i feel than lets say renault clio. Maybe can tow as much as Lada

Slower than what? Obviously, you have never had a Prius. It can accelerate as fast as other mid range cars and be still comfortable around 85-90 miles per hour. It can tow more than, say, a Civic. It’s planetary transmission is a piece of art. Lada is a scrap metal

@@IgorKadulenkov i have prius. Why would i watch this video otherwise? I have "tuning" it a little bit. Have a harder suspension. Also gas pedal controller but prius is still sloooow. Faster than all other slow cars but slow. I even have max speed video recorded. If all cars were with 120hp limit this would be the mclaren of all cars. But as is is pretty damn slow overal. And yes you can get in an accident even with bicycle so its fast enough for troubles but put in on the line with M3 or ZR1

@@IgorKadulenkov I towed with it a couple weeks ago. Brake pedal is extra crappy and acceleration is definitely worse. BTA (MG1) got to 278F but 80mph on the highway for 250 miles got me to about 230F when unloaded. I kept getting this burning smell from the AC when I was towing. I couldn't locate it anywhere or trigger it. Just completely random. I may have burned more oil than normal while towing. I kinda felt like a semi towing. It can do it. The trailer ended up weighing about 2040lbs and I'm sure I had 300-400 on the tongue. When it was loaded the max speed I hit was about 67mph calculated and about 75 unloaded at 1240lbs~. I have oversized AT tires which did not help me at all. All tires were underinflated too. Neither speed was the max max, but where I decided not to push it. I kinda wonder what something like a VW Jetta with a manual could do. The 1.4 has 150hp and 184 torque. Gen 3 Prius is 112hp and torque. But mine's wore out. 184k.
