Towing With The New Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LTZ | Had Some Issues Testing... 

I'm not sure if anyone else mentioned, but I started using B&W stow away hitches on my 1/2 and 3/4 ton trucks. Game changer. Excellent hitches. Well worth the $250. JMO. Thank you for your reviews, they're awesome.

The truck is definitely capable to tow that trailer. I would go with a 3/4 truck also to be on the safe side especially if your going on long hauls. Great review.

Yeah that hitch has got to go lol. I think it being so long might be adding to the squat. Weight distribution hitch would be enough for that truck but if I had to use a half ton to tow that trailer regularly I’d definitely do airbags.

i see some comments about the truck isn't good enough, well they are wrong, i have a 24 ft trailer with a bunch of equipment and my 4230lb car and my ram 1500 and Silverado 1500 both tows great with it and i don't have air bags or anything, just an expensive tow hitch with the stabilizer bars and I'm flying down the hwy to the tracks every weekend

The squats not that bad for a half ton especially cause you’re maxed out on the capacity too. Those trailers are for 3/4’s cause of the large tounge weight

Totally agree that squat can be a issue when towing, especially when towing with a 1/2 ton truck. More ease of mind safety wise using a 3/4 ton when towing large trailer like yours. Driving with squat in very high winds, both frontal, & sideways towing a large trailer like yours with a 1/2 ton is a accident waiting to happen!

Definitely not airbags. Use weight distribution hitch. Airbags are fine for a GN, 5th wheel, or a heavy payload in the bed. Anything with weight more or less directly over the axle. I used airbags for years towing a heavy bumper pull. I bought a travel trailer and started using weight distribution. I installed the components needed on my flat deck trailer and started using the weight distribution on it as well. It was amazing how much better the towing experience was with weight distribution than with airbags.

Install a Reese Steady Flex weight distribution hitch that will transfer the weight to the front. I’d never pull a trailer that size without a weight distribution hitch.

Nice video! My business partner has a 2019 1500 High Country and it’s a super nice truck, but he keeps about 1,000 lbs of cargo in it and it squats 2-3 inches. I just don’t understand trucks that can’t handle any weight. We’ve got a 8.5’x20’ enclosed trailer and I can’t imagine hooking it up to his rig. Keep up the good work!

The 2020 Silverado 1500 comes with composite rear springs. Chevrolet sells replacement rear springs that are steel.

i am in agreement with you about the HD tow mirrors on half-ton trucks, not a fan.

Good video man. I got a couple observations: 1) I’m not sure about the 2019-up half tons but I know for sure the 2020-up 3/4 ton Chevys have very little rake. My 2020 Duramax has MAYBE 1/2” rake. So it does look more squatted than a 2019 Duramax because they had at least 2” of rake. And I always measure from center of the wheel to the fender instead of the ground cause that takes the variable of the ground being different out. Not such a big deal if you measure from the same exact spot though. 2) The new cameras from Chevy are fantastic. My truck has those and when you give a signal light that side mirror camera shows up on the center screen and it totally eliminates any blind spot that you have. 3) When I have my hitch camera zoomed in like that and then stop and go to park my park brake sets automatically. I found this out from turning it back off many times when I’ve hooked my trailer up lol. Great video though guy. I think maybe a 28’ trailer is pushing a half ton but those spread axles really make all the difference. 9000 pounds is also definitely maxing out the half ton class in my opinion especially with an enclosed trailer. Open trailer wouldn’t be as bad though I don’t think.

Didnt read all the comments but that isnt a weight distrubution hitch. So not suprised its sagging so much. Also its a friggin huge trailer for a half ton.

Nice Silverado! I just bought one...low miles like new interior, real "roll down" windows, I'll hint at what I paid....less than the taxes you paid on that sleek trailer! Mine can only tow 6K though as it's the 4.3L V6. Definitely a good move extending the trailer!

Air bags will only help you not bottom out. You need a weight distribution hitch to take actual weight off of your rear end. Also, I have to disagree with the mirrors, your truck is 6' wide and your trailer is 8.5' wide. You need the trailering mirrors in order to safely merge right in traffic, and how on earth can you see the sides of your trailer when you are backing in a straight line.

Had a ford diesel towing my 24 foot travel trailer and got passed by a tundra towing the same… also getting to the campground and the site next to us had all Toyotas pulling the same trailers some even 26 footers… for the average camper… what I have seen, that’s all you need especially if that’s your daily… your thoughts?

That long hitch is hurting your squat for sure. A weigh safe would be good for your testing to show hitch wt vs squat.

I wouldn’t tow that trailer with that truck. Too heavy. The towing limits are just numbers and don’t reflect the towing experience. I have to disagree with the mirror comment. I would much rather have the bigger mirrors for towing. You can see more of what’s near you. Even though they don’t look as good, I’m going bigger. Great video!

As I understand it. if your trailer weight is greater than 5000lb you are required by law, to have a weight distribution hitch.

Wondering if you've noticed any aggressive engine downshifting while going down even a modest hill. While towing my boat, my Silverado will almost slow to a crawl on the downslope of a hill...normal?

U never have too much truck!

I would just put one overload spring and that will take care of all your problems. Plus one overload will be cheaper than air bags.

Bro your trailer isn’t balanced, you only got to look at the distance the wheels are between the tongue and the rear of the trailer. Airbags are good but aren’t going to fix the balance issues. If you only had 400 pounds on the tongue I’d be surprised

For half tons you need a weight distribution hitch for 5000 lbs plus.

The squat is being exaggerated by the dumbest hitch setup I’ve ever seen........The further away from the back bumper the hitch ball goes the more the truck and any truck will squat....

Does this have the 3.23 ratio?

He keeps talking about adding air bags… Air bags will not fix his problem but only make it worse by masking the issue. He never measured the front only the rear. He obviously did not do his homework on any fronts other than reading the spec stickers…. They do not tell the whole story. But since he already committed to a half ton he needs to seriously look into a weight distribution hitch. Even a 3/4 ton PU will need a weight distribution hitch for safe towing. Otherwise he needs to keep that rig off the road.

The hitch you have on this Chevy is too long and will make it squat more and another half tons are not built for towing that much 3/4 or 1 ton trucks are built for towing that trailer hd trucks have bigger cooling systems more oil more transmission fluid bigger rear diffs too sum it up HALF TONS WILL FALL APART TOWING big loads like your trailer you used half tons are toys not work horses buy 3/4 ton trucks if you plan on towing
