You know what I love about your videos? You actually play the game and allow the game dynamics to function. Most CSL videos is jist about detailing and plopping down every single building where they want it, rather that allowing the game to control that. The game must be allowed to respond to your actions. Also, I love how blaze you are with your roads. I tend to overplan and overthink my roads, ending up with grids that is just too perfect. You inspire me to just let things be and not try and make things perfect.
I just realized that this map is the city I was Born! Santos is in the southeast of Brazil, in the state of São Paulo. I don't know if it might be interesting to your gameplay, but Santos main income comes from the port (which is one of the biggest in the world) and the city is full of canals to avoid sea flood!
hey james, 2:45 you just pick the tree from the beautification tab, and then click on the road. of course, you can't adjust the distance between them, for that you need *Network Skins (Airports DLC compatible)* 7:00 you need to turn collision off from the fine road tool's ui, the button on the right. 24:00 I think the option to turn off tree fires is in the base game options? 26:30 you didn't snap to the road you came off. 38:30 again, collision off. 58:00 you can turn it off with the "toggle it" mod. also, it would be great if you could get a theme so it won't look so washed out. mods & assets suggestions: - Forest Brush v1.3 - Tree Movement Control - Network Multitool 1.2 -- includes parallel road tool functionality, which was broken the last time I checked. - Loading Screen Mod temporary fix for Airports DLC - Prop Switcher 2 - Extended Game Options - Rebalanced Industries - Historical Districts - Ultimate Eyecandy v1.5.2 - Optimised Outside Connections - Ultimate Level Of Detail (ULOD) -- for the redwoods especially - Toggle It! -- you can keep grid on always, turn the white overlay on/off etc. - Vanilla Single Metro Tracks (I don't know why they're not in base game) - Vanilla+ Roads One Click Collection - great assets, you can pick and choose. (just add "workshop/filedetails/?id=2440145178" at the end of steamcommunity url for the collection.) - Sun Shafts - Parking Lot Roads and ParkingLotSnapping together. the second makes it sooo much easier. - Instant Return To Desktop
as always' great episode. really enjoying the chillness of it. I'd go as far as absolutely no speed building in this series at all. If you need an entire episode for a highway interchange then that's what we'll get. cheers!
Man I remember watching your Pumpkin Crash Pad minecraft videos years ago, nice to see you back on Cities. You picked a top map too, E6gsy is one of the best :)
5 buses is enough I think if you take the london bus because it can accommodate more people than in the regular one but has the same length as a regular bus
Here's a suggestion: When you start building on the other side of the trunk road running down the middle, make it a divider between an old town and a new town. The new town is gridded roads with clear and non-mixed zones. Just a small aesthetic idea.
I grew up in a town of about 3k people. We only had 10-ish shops. A grocery store, a baker, a butcher, a general purpose store with some books/calendars/pens/crafts supplies, a hair salon, a random shoe store almost no one buys at, a pet supply store, and two small fast food thingies. The amount of shops that Cities Skylines wants for your little settlement is unreal. I love watching your chill videos, though. Keep it up.
we have a lot of jacarandas in argentina, too! one of the reasons why october and november are the best times to visit the capital, buenos aires - the city is painted lavender by the flowers!
Definitely not too slow. Your sims video's used to be this chill.. now they are all over-edited and just very... stressful to watch. That pace is waaaay too high lately.
6:45 turn off collision in the screen where you turn off bending and node snapping so you can add paths and fences without removing the other, just know that it will cause trees to come out through under roads in nearby areas cause that's the game.
Jacaranda trees are super prevalent in Mexico, all over! And South America. Some have been brought to Southern California. It’s in the new Disney movie Encanto too, “a hurricane of jacarandas…..” in a super cute song. ☺️
Pretoria, South Africa is also called the Jacaranda city. We have/had the tradition/superstition that if a flower fell on your head it meant good luck for the exams as they flower during the end of year exam time. They are invasive in South Africa though. I'm surprised they're not in Aus too. I think they South American originally.
Town and district name suggestions: Stars Hollow Sunshine Valley Terwillegar Hills Clover Point Stoneybrook Wyndsun Beach Greengrass Park Moraine Lake Silversands Lake Beauvert Old Fort Point Johnston Canyon Just some ideas :) Please like my comment if any of these sound nice! A few I made up and some I took inspiration from where I live.
Intersection Marking Tool: Press and hold Ctrl + Click to drag the points to the desired location. It's much easier! Also those points are off more often than you might think so you'd definitely want to use that more than once.
My small town middle school had 5 floors 😂 Edits Also I like to put in traffic light crossings at nodes by schools and parks I think by your high-school would be a good place to have one! It looks cool to see all the people cross at once and it feels pretty real by a school lol
Have you tried the theme that was linked to the map? Would look so much better. No need for the LUT that the theme asks for and doesn’t require any other mods on top so it won’t slow your game down
This series is really relaxing for me to just listen to while I work. I’m happy your videos are back. The slow pace is really nice. Excited for the next one. 🥰
Thank you for catching it and timestamping! ❤ I assume there are more that don't show up there due to not having options but should include most of the bigger mods for sure!
Flabs love that you’re back and especially with cities skylines! Really digging the chill build you’re doing, I’m also a big fan of your the movies series and I was wondering if you were gonna bring that back at any point? If not totally fine! I love cities skylines and watching your builds!
I hate to sound mean, but I started dying laughing when you realized the trees where on fire and screamed. It was such a slow relax video then just randomly “OH MY GOD”
As someone who’s always been interested in playing city skylines but always found other peoples videos on it too overwhelming, I really appreciate the slow pace to this. I always thought your city had to expand very quickly since that’s what I always seen other people do. So it’s nice to see that’s not the case and you can absolutely play casually and not for trying to get things all perfect while always expanding at a fast rate. This is making me consider picking up a copy now 😌😉
this is the perfect video for me to chill to while I try and battle a headache til I can get to sleep (it also makes me want to play cities again but my computer won't load it, rip me)
James: "I love that we have a Jacaranda in the game. Are these in other countries? I guess they are..." Me: "Did I just hear an Australian Gamer ponder wether a Tree native to Argentina and Bolivia grows in countries other than Australia?"
I love the way you play James, go with the flow, and have fun. I love how you spend time detailing as well. You should check the campus park mod, and parkify too (which you probably know), and if you want nice roads and alleyways check Vanilla+ Roads: Streets by delta 5-1 and the Small Parks by Youngling. A set of alleyways with plants for residential and back alleys with bins for commercial - all walkable. You can also use Zonable Pedestrian Promenade to create a little pedestrian area where you can place residential and shops, it looks pretty cool. have fun and thank you for all the fun you give us
I think the roundabout is normal and it doesn't need any changes (except for the road markings and maybe the speed) think about it, one reason why who made the map built it that way is, in addition to being a nice intersection, to have an efficient flow of vehicles, those who have to exit at the first exit only have to moderate their speed
