I try to get the cap with copper connections. The replacement that you used was aluminum. In a humid and rainy environment, the aluminum cap has some missing problems.
@TimmyTheToolman
@TimmyTheToolman 4 года назад
Interesting. The cap I used was a Toyota OEM distributor cap. Who sells a cap with copper connections? It sort of sounds like this might be more of a problem with the o-ring on the distributor cap being bad. It's my understanding that moisture getting into any distributor is going to wreak havoc.

I don't think it matters Dude. The ends are pretty much the same on both ends of the coil wire so I think you can get away with connecting in either orientation.

@TimmyTheToolman
@TimmyTheToolman 2 года назад
We have our 22RE Engine Replacement series, where we have to build up the rebuilt engine, but I honestly don't remember the installation of a knock sensor. I just looked it up and it's up and to the left of the oil filter under the intake manifold on the engine block. You disconnect the electrical connector and spin it off with a wrench.

@TimmyTheToolman
@TimmyTheToolman 3 года назад
Hey Lauren, We pretty much show all the things you need to do for a tune-up in our Valve Cover Gasket Replacement video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-N5fAXAuGozI.html You'll just have to pick your way through the video to see all the areas that relate. You would want to replace the spark plugs, spark plug wires, clean the throttle body, clean the MAF (Mass Air Flow Sensor), and replace the air filter. That's pretty much it Lauren. It's a very straight forward job. I highly recommend you get Toyota spark plug wires because they come with all the plastic keepers and everything is already in order. We provide links to all the parts needed in the video. The wires we link in the video don't come from Toyota but they are Toyota OEM equivalent. You'll want the dual electrode spark plugs and not the single electrode. The biggest mistake you could make is getting the spark plug wires on wrong but it's almost hard to do this because of how the wires come. You'll see what I mean when you get the wires in your hands. Great to hear you've been putting our videos to good use. If you have any questions, you know where to find us. Good luck with the job and Happy Wrenching!

Hello Timmy The Toolman, In a tune up was wondering about replace the oxygen sensor, and fuel filter, and if Fuel Injectors should be cleaned? Thank you. James Kappel
@TimmyTheToolman
@TimmyTheToolman 3 года назад
Hey James, an engine can run better with refurbished fuel injectors but it's not necessarily what someone would do as part of an engine tune-up. I've never tried cleaning them myself but there's companies that do it for a fair price like Motorwest Performance in Southern California. Lots of guys have had great luck using their services and buying injectors from them.

Not sure how to do this on a 22RE motor. With vehicles that have an OBD II reader, you can pull this info from the ECU but these older rigs don't have an OBD II reader.

Hey Timmy, i have an 84 Celica with a 22RE and while replacing the sparkplugs i noticed some of them are wet. I'm digging in on the internet and apparently there are no Spark Plug seals, would you please advise?
@TimmyTheToolman

They are wet on the spark plug wire side or the electrode side that provides the spark inside the cylinder?
@ernestoriestra8367
@ernestoriestra8367 2 года назад
@@TimmyTheToolman they were wet on the electrode side and just as added info, i re-checked them again right before replying to your comment and they weren't wet anymore, i did however notice that the electrodes were super crusty for 2,3, & 4, i just replaced them about 5 months ago 😮
@TimmyTheToolman

@@ernestoriestra8367 Sounds like you're getting some oil blow by from worn piston rings. As long as it runs ok, I wouldn't worry about it.

@@TimmyTheToolman thanks 👍🏿 could that cause misfires?
@TimmyTheToolman
@TimmyTheToolman 2 года назад
@@ernestoriestra8367 I think it could if the oil blow by is significant enough to foul the plug. But, I suggest you do a compression check to see the health of your cylinders. If any of them are low, follow it up with a leak down test.

@Timmy The Toolman I sure do miss my 22R I had a 1990 Toyota PickUp the smaller ones with 200,000 miles I did an almost full overhaul on the better since the timing chain guides broke I was lucky the valves didn’t come in contact with the pistons the bottom timing chain sprocket broke in 3 pcs and the upper one some few teeth broke so I replaced the timing chain guides chain sprockets and tensioner along with a new water pump oil pan gasket new spark plugs spark plug wires distributor cap and rotor and all new fresh fluid antifreeze and oil/filter man did I notice a big difference once all this was done to it it was like a brand new motor
@TimmyTheToolman
@TimmyTheToolman 4 года назад
I have heard the timing chain guide is a weakness on these motors. As time goes on, I will delve deeper into this motor and learn more about it. My engine drinks oil so I'm toying with the idea of replacing the valve stem seals to see if that helps. The motor in my rig sat for a long time in storage so I think the valve stem seals dried up and are letting lots of oil get past.
@edwinthetechnician6578
@edwinthetechnician6578 4 года назад
Timmy The Toolman yes they are so be careful the last thing you want is something similar happening to you like what happen to me just a heads up also my timing cover got really damaged from when the chain broke off and it was spinning came in contact with the timing cover and broke off alot of aluminum from it and yes these little motors are great but they are notorious for burning oil mine burned oil I had to keep pouring 1 qt. into it every 2-3 weeks or so
