Hey Everyone,
My apologies for the temporary absence from RU-vid, there has been a ton of great stuff going on in the shop. We've been experimenting with some new machines and getting things really dialed down for efficiency and "OCD" level precision.
Today's video talks about a new series I will be releasing starting at the end of April, 2023. The series will be called "The Precision Rifle Reloader" and will be comprised of several episodes. We will start out at the beginning and end up with a complete, proofed and ready to shoot reload recipe at the end, with all steps covered in detail. This should be very good.
Next I talk about a build I just finished for a customer that turned out fantastic. He will drive out the the shop next month to receive his rifle in person. More on that to come....
Finally, I have a contest for you loyal TPM fans. I FINALLY got my business cards sent out. When I was designing them, I wanted them to not only hold my company and contact information, but also offer my patrons a little fun. On the back you will see a the circular TPM eagle logo which works well as a target 😁.
The contest is simple - email me at my company email address (can be found here on RU-vid or at www.triggeredprecision.com) and send me your name and address. I will mail you two business cards - one to shoot and one to keep, throw away or do whatever with. Whoever shoots the smallest 5-shot group on the card and sends it back, wins. All cards will be evaluated on an episode the first week of June and the winner and runner-up will receive prizes.
OFFICIAL RULES!!!
- Must use a centerfire rifle cartridge - no restrictions
- Shoot from front bipod / rear bag, no mechanical "rail guns" of benchrest stuff.
- Any magnified optic
- Shot from 100 yards
- A cold bore shot and / or subsequent fouling shots are acceptable as long as the card is shot with 5 consecutive shots
- This is free to enter
- Comply with all Local, State and Federal Laws
- This contest is held and sponsored solely by Triggered Precision Machine LLC
- Prizes will be determined by the number of contestants
*** All personal information gathered for the purpose of conducting this contest will be held securely and used for no other purpose other than the administration of the above described contest. All information will be properly destroyed at the conclusion.
***Entries that don't comply with RU-vid's Community Guidelines will be disqualified.
Link to RU-vid's Community Guidelines: ru-vid.com...
Please review
**This is all to be done on the honor system** Try and keep it honest
The card shot has to be sent back to me by the end of May. Please include your rifle and cartridge info on the card as well.
“In the end you should always do the right thing even if it’s hard.”
-Nicholas Sparks
This should be a fun contest!
That's all for now.
Thanks!
-Shawn

I’m really looking forward to the upcoming series on the reloading. Keep up the great content
@triggeredprecisionmachinellc
Thank you, I figured this would be a great topic. I plan on breaking every step down to the very finest point and explaining the "why," something I find very important when learning a new skill.

I'm a avid hunter, shooting a customized Weatherby vanguard s2 in 30-06 caliber. Over the last couple of years I dove into the reloading development with both feet . This is the type of reloading development video series I've been waiting for. Thank You.
@triggeredprecisionmachinellc
You are welcome. I will not disappoint. 😀

Looking forward to the series. Definitely go into the deep end. Go full in depth on everything
@triggeredprecisionmachinellc
Oh I will 😀 My problem is going to be keeping the information well structured and concise. Either way, stand by for some obnoxiously detailed videos. This will be fun!

In Hornady Podcast #50, the guys acted as myth busters about the OCW method, seating depth test, Creighton ladders and other classic load development methods. Their idea is based on the fact that group sizes have a probability distribution. The same rifle, with the same cartridge, under the same conditions, can fire groups of different sizes if we fire three or five shots in groups. This idea finds partial confirmation from Brian Litz. It caused a stir in the shooting world. Eric Cortina has devoted several of his long interviews to discussing this fact. Including an interview with the creator of the OCW method. I think that it could be interesting for everyone to see in practice how the classic load development methods work when increasing the number of shots in groups. Thank you for your work. Looking forward to your new videos.
@triggeredprecisionmachinellc
I absolutely, 100% agree. Sample size allowing for a statistically significant probability distribution in terms of "precision" is absolutely necessary to evaluate performance. I've touched on this before, part of the problem we experience as precision rifle shooters are all the variables, both human and environmental, that play a significant role in how our rifle shoots. Then there is the statistically defined difference between "accuracy" and "precision." In a nutshell, accuracy measures where you shot, or the mean POI for a group of shots, lands in relation to the POA. On the other hand, precision measures your group size, CTC (center to center) for the two rounds that landed furthest from each other on the target. As we increase our sample size, i.e. the number of rounds fired into a group, the probability distribution, which is theoretically shaped like a bell curve, will give us a more "true" or significant representation of both accuracy and precision. The same is true when we attempt to find our mean velocity for a new reload. Firing 5 rounds isn't enough.... Ten is better.... 20 is even better. As I mentioned above, there are so many variables we must contend with on not just a daily basis, but a shot-to-shot basis. Some examples of "daily" variables include the environment / weather, the range we are shooting at, our physical and mental condition that day, just to name a few. Examples of "shot-to-shot" variables include all the mechanics involved with us, the shooters, pulling the trigger, the rifle's condition, once again weather, and so on, and so forth. I've tried hard to think of another sport that is as challenging to get true, raw, statistical data regarding performance. For true "testing" there are a few things we can control. We can bolt a rifle into a mechanical fixture to eliminate the shooter's input, we can use electronic or mechanical devices to release the firing pin, although unreasonable, we could check the case volume of every case we reload, check our case dimensions with a laser coordinate measuring machine, charge powder to the .000x grain, weigh bullets, check bearing surface dimensions, the temp of our rifle / ammo, etc. On the flip side, there are also several things we cannot control - weather and environmental factors, the burn rate consistency of the lot of power we use, the flame heat from the primers we choose to ignite the powder, the cumulative effect of throat erosion, land / groove changes from bullets traveling down the barrel. I wasn't a statistics major but I did take several undergraduate and graduate college courses on stats but unfortunately I've forgotten quite a but 🤦. This is the part of precision rifle shooting that can either interest you to the point of obsession, or make you go crazy thinking about it. Either way, great information, great post, and and great points. Keep this stuff coming boys! -Shawn

Looking forward to all the videos. Especially more on the 300 Norma. I'm a 300 NM crackhead..I need help.
@triggeredprecisionmachinellc
HAHA! That made me laugh. I guess you could consider me a 300 NM addict as well! I've built three so far, and I think I'm going to get the "improved" reamer sent out to play with. Supposed to do wonders for efficiency and velocity. There will definitely be a video on that canon. Thanks for watching! -Shawn

In the reloading series you mention seating depth test for final tune. Hoe about follow that up using barrel tuner. Looking forward to seeing the videos.
@triggeredprecisionmachinellc
Absolutely! I separate that stuff into two areas - tuning the ammo and tuning the rifle. The ammo tuning gets handled first and if you aren't where you want to be accuracy wise, then we can either re-address some different things with the ammo, or make changes to our rifle. The tuner / tuner brakes are an awesome way to wrap up your tuning for maximum accuracy.

This all sounds great Shawn!! I'm always looking forward to reloading information. And I'll participate in the TPM card challenge. If I can get my 6mm Creedmoor fine tuned I'll use that otherwise it'll be the Tikka 22-250. Take care buddy.
@triggeredprecisionmachinellc
Sounds awesome, Todd. You are pretty darned knowledgable about the reloading stuff. If you come up with any nifty topics I can cover, shoot me an email. Thanks man! -Shawn
