I would trade Kovacevic and between Harris and Struble it’s really hard as Harris seems to have better hockey IQ but Struble can play really tough, as tough as Xhekaj which is essential especially in play off.

Norlinder is worth a dozen of sticks. Wasn’t even a regular in the AHL and will never be an NHL player. Trudeau worth nothing as well for other teams. To me Hutson and Ghule possibly Reinbacher are the only three I’d really want to hold on to. Wouldn’t get rid of Mailloux or Xhekaj just for the sake but would listen to offers. As for Matheson, I think we can use him to possibly get a top six forward that would change our dynamic. Love the guy and his passion for Montreal, just think he’ll be on the downward Sloan when we are contenders. He is our best bargaining chip.

They definitely could stand to move a Defensive prospect or two to try and bolster assets elsewhere, but as Jesse said it's worth having a stock pile. Despite what they look like ahead of time, most prospects don't hit at the NHL level, and there's a smaller margin in terms of usefulness/impact for D-man who fall short than there is for forwards. Hang on to as many as you can (sensibly), and increase your odds of finding ones that turn into meaningful, impactful NHL players.

Yeah don't count much on Konyushkov, he's got a contract with this KHL team until 25/26, he's not even 6"00 tall... The fact he played those big minutes is more indicative of the state of his team and of the KHL overall than of him being a Defense messiah on the ice. Dmitri Kostenko has more chances of making it for the simple fact he can be there this summer.

I thought Kovacevic would've been traded at the deadline. Could be traded this summer, but I don't think the return is gonna be nearly as much. Harris looks like the odd man out, although the fact he can play both sides might help him. At this point, Justin Barron is starting to skate on thin ice. As a RHD, with a good point shot, his value could be even higher than Harris/Struble, and if Konyushkov is coming over (and especially if the Habs decide to target a RHD early in the draft), I could see them moving Barron for a forward.

It’s going to cost a D prospect at least, maybe two, maybe another forward prospect and a first this year or next, to find something that’s going to be of some kind of quality. Harris, Struble, Kovacevic, Barron, Farrell, Mesar, and maybe other options, to potentially get something back

Its better to stock your team with defensemen that can play the third/fourth line, then forwards that play the third or fourth line. That's why it's better to draft them then forwards that are unlikely to become 1st/2nd line scorers. Which if you are getting them in the 3rd or 4th rd, if you find one, they are likely to be small.

I wouldn't want to be the one deciding who to sacrifice. The thing is, the Habs don't need another third line player, they already have too much of those. They need a top six scoring machine and these guys are worth gold. Hughes will have to sacrifice a precious defenceman to have a precious forward. I predict that Mailloux will be sacrificed. The Habs brought him into the light and now he's ready to go. I don't want Mailloux to leave, I think he is a special player who will have a great career, but we urgently need a star goal scorer.

I always hear that we need to keep all the best D we have (Popcorn, Hutson, Mailloux, Matheson, Guhle, Sheriff etc etc) but what we need to understand is you can't keep 6 Ds that will all make 5-6-7-8 Millions a year. You can't built that way. You need to have a top pair at 6-8 Mil, then you need a middle pair at 4-5 Mil each then a bottom pair at 1-2 Mil and a 4th pair at minimum wage. So you will need to keep 2-3 guys like Harris, HondaCivic, Struble, Barron, Trudeau etc etc.

Trade proposal- Toronto will make Marner a scapegoat for why they keep losing in the playoffs. So why not trade trade Harris, Kovosevic, Trudeau and a 5 or 6th round draft pick or something similar? Montreal can eat the contract and they get an elite forward. Makes sense to me. What do you think?

Feel like the Habs have some untouchables on D. Guhle Hutson and Reinbacher being the obvious 3. All especially Hutson show superstar potential and theres almost never a case where trading a superstar or even potential one works. Ex: Sergachev. Mailloux i dont think has that potential but still could be like a Thomas Harley kinda guy who i consider not an untouchable but definitely an avoided. Xhekaj also is definitely here. You just cant trade him. For everything he brings. He is in above untouchables in like unlookables. Other then those though. Im okay with Struble Barron Harris Kovy Matheson Savard and our other prospects getting traded.

I’m shocked at how little love Mailloux gets. The guy is a stud RD who provides offence and plays physical. Laval season was turned around when Wifi was partnered with LM. Everyone clamouring for a Dman to be traded for a top 6 forward needs to leave Ghule, Wifi and Mailloux names outta that conversation.

Hudson and Savard would be a good pair. This would let Hudson be the offensive threat we know he can be. Having a savvy vet like Savard beside him for his first couple of seasons is only going to benefit Hudson and the Habs.

If we hope to have a cup contending team, we have no prospects in the pipeline that would be a top six forward on a true contending team. Roy, 3rd line on cup contending team, same with Beck. Mesar, don’t believe he’s an nhler. Farrell, nope. Kapanen, third line at best. This years pick, possibly.

If we want to make a real legit trade for a young power forward like Zegras. We will need to let go some good guys. They wanted Arber Xhekaj. We will not part with him. Maybe they will want a combo of Kaiden Guhle, Savard, Kovacevic, Struble, Matheson and Jordan Harris.. Or all of them and a draft pick. We Have to make way for Lane and Mailloux anyways. Our current D guys are not that good. We have been the bottom 5 in the NHL for a few years now. We need to take some risks and put these guys out there. I wouldn't really trade anyone for draft picks at this point. We need proven talent now to compete. Not guys ready in a few years.

Harris is the most likely to go, I think. Maybe Kovacevic, too, although his size would be tough to lose. I do have a comment about one term that you use a lot: upside. It is one of those terms that ceases to have any meaning. What does it mean to say a player has "upside"? Don't any potential NHLers have some kind of "upside"? It seems that a lot of expressions that have become popular in recent years are most vague than the ones they replace. I'd just drop this one. Also, Jesse, you really say "as well" too much. I think it becomes a verbal habit. It's almost never needed. I don't' mean to be critical but I think these small changes would make your videos even better.

Untouchables for me at D: Kaiden Guhle, Lane Hutson, Arber Xhekaj. I would trade/package pretty much anyone else as long as we get fair return of course and as long as we make a "buy-low" type move on anyone except Zegras or Kaliyev. Those two are not playoff built. Also, reason why I wouldn't want to buy-high on anyone is because I don't think it's necessary. I like the way our team is developing now - no need to blow it up.

I dont disagree. But it's not the only way. Matheson is a #1 defenseman. He was top ten in scoring for all defenseman. Thats a #1. So any team that dosent have an already better one I think would. Florida for me is interesting to see him go back there. Montour Ekblad and Forsling are all good but not #1 PP defenseman like Matheson. Maybe Lundell for Matheson? Seattle as well. They aren't rebuilding and have some solid top 6 forwards. I can see a McCain for Matheson 1 for 1. Utah as well needs a #1. Maybe a Schmaltz for Matheson 1 for 1? I think those all make way more sense then trading possible stars like Mailloux Guhle Hutson Reinbacher

Trade Harris and Barron. The untouchables for now,unless the return is significant: I would not move Xekaj(can't teach his kind of toughness), or Hutson ,Mailloux,Engstrom( may be the best of the bunch),Reinbacher,Guhle( though his being prone to injury worries me)Struble is a nice insurance D, and may have interest to other teams.We are going to have to trade some of them eventually,we can start with Barron(i miss Lekhonen) and Harris,imo

Guhle does not fit on my team. Matheson, Hutson,Xhekaj on the left with Struble as extra guy. Guhle is going to be traded, Harris too and maybe Barron as well. Mailloux passed Barron and Reinbacher will too. Honda Civic stays with Savard and Mailloux on the right side to complete opening day defence.

I think Montreal trades Matheson to Utah for Schmaltz and a 2nd. Utahs owner said hes willing to make BIG moves and wants to make his team good now. He could be their #1 defenseman who can put up 60+ points. Montreal gets a very good top 6 player who has proven he can get points while being physical. He would fill in a nice role for us. Win win. We have Hutson to replace Matheson or even Guhle and Arizona gets a legit #1 while we get a very important piece. MTL: Nick Schmaltz, 2024 2nd UTA. UTA: Mike Matheson Maybe a smaller trade with Utah again would be Barron. He was on pace for 32 points in his rookie year and they need offense from their defense. Josh Doan looks like a future middle 6 stud. I think a 1 for 1 trade could work with them. Maybe we add a pick? MTL: Doan UTA: Barron, 2024 4th MTL.

@robertlegault9226 Eh you don't get much outside of offense to be honest. With Matheson. With Schmaltz you get that offense and physicality. I think Matheson is the better player but this was probably a carrer year and it's a win win. I was thinking they add a conditional over a 2nd but i didn't want to get hate comments
