This was amazing last Christmas and this year I just HAD to search through every recipe to find it again. Honestly made our Christmas, thank you. Save the recipe folks! ❤❤❤

Your jelly is the boss! I'm a 'drown the sponge' person. your cream was whisked to just the right stage. Gorgeous

our family used a raspberry jam swiss roll, sliced & soaked in sherry (& fruit juices if using tinned).We left off the custard as cold thick custard was not popular. we made variations - banana & raspberry (with a red jelly). mandarin & pear eg (with an orange jelly). plenty of whipped cream. crumbled flake on top with walnut halves & pieces of the fruit. No additives to the cream. (eg, no vanilla or icing sugar). Delicious!

I’ve discovered that everyone makes their trifle a little (or a lot) differently!😁

This recipe reminds me of my dear old mum. She used to make 2 large Xmas trifles from scratch as there were 10 of us, we all helped her. She always made a strawberry 1 and a mandarin 1. Very much like Xmas pudds and cake which we all helped in October/November. Wonderful memories of our huge Christmas’s that we loved and mum & dad made so special for us. Thanks for the recipe and bringing back those wonderful days off gone.

That's very similar to the trifle we grew up n in Australia, being of Irish decent i guess it would be similar. We don't tend to put fruit in the jelly but usually have a great big tropical fruit salad as well as the triffle, pudding and sometimes pavlova as well. Not being a fan of sherry we now use Malibu (Coconut flavored white Rum) to soak the cake in and a little in the custard. Makes a delicious change to the sherry. TFS

Hi Cheryl, What diameter was your glass bowl please and did you make the custard? Never made a homemade one and always bought the Birds Eye Trifle rubbish lol Really want to make this for Christmas.
@WhatsForTea
@WhatsForTea 5 лет назад
Hi Beth :) It's roughly 8 inches. I just made custard from powder....it's best for setting! It gives a good barrier for the cream....so that it doesn't sink through. I used to make the Birds Eye ones years ago until I discovered this way...and never looked back lol

Yuk jelly in a trifle changes the experience of a true trifle taste , the Victorians invented it and had NO JELLY 🤷‍♀️

Jelly has been used in trifle for many years. Yuk yourself. Maybe make trifle the way you prefer and then kindly cram it up your bum
