Payson was back in town for his January training camp, and if there's one guy who I like shredding gravel bikes with it's him. We linked up for two rides, this being the first. I took him on my favorite local loop, which I call the Paseo Loop. You get to see a little bit of everything, sharp mountains, beautiful canyons, ocean views, some of the neighbouring communities, and all sorts of dirt surfaces. Finishing at the ocean is always a great way to cap a ride too!

To me, safa, that is the best video up to now, so interesting, scenery is amazing, insane that you are in that backcountry then finishing in the city, everything so close together. Love it! Keeps me motivated riding indoors watching you guys shred! 😍

Wow X 1000, these just keep getting better and better Safa. Great ride. Many thanks. Watched this as a finishing bit to a two hour spin session. Excellent camera work, drone footage was superb. What's just as impressive is where are all those hikers and runners coming from, miles from any car parks, no water stations in sight. The beach ending was the icing. Way to go 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼🤗🤗👍🏼😉

What width tires are they using?
@liamkaloy
@liamkaloy 2 года назад
@25:07 Indeed, If this is already on the edge for someone like SAFA it means it is really not easy. I am long time MTB and road rider (decades) and to check if I have to buy/enjoy gravel bike I put on narrow tires on my MTB and locked the suspension. On perfect quality off road it was fine but on bit worse but still MTB-peace-of-cake dirt road I managed to crash after 2 miles - mostly because of the "binary" nature of gravel bike grip. Because I also broke my arm during that crash I was completely healed from buying a gavel bike. On MTB you can do so much more with just fraction of the skill you need to have on gavel bike and still while riding only at 75% of the MTB speed. So for me for me gravel bike is only for people who either want to ride slow or are exceptionally skilled and can ride fast on binary grip bikes.
@jirihutecka9020
@jirihutecka9020 2 года назад
I decided buy canyon endurace instead of gravel bike. It's road bike where you can fit 35mm tires. Which is plenty for some light off road..
@johnschmitt3083
@johnschmitt3083 2 года назад
You just simulated a MTB without suspension and narrow tires, nothing more. The whole geometry of a gravel Bike, the angles are limiting you to the point that you just can't enter curves the way you would with a MTB. Imaging someone doing it the other way around. You would just test a gravel bike with suspension and wide tires. I come from the exact other point of view. To me MTB means downhill everything else is too easy for a MTB. I switched to Gravel because with the MTB im always riding at the outer limit of injuring myself. So im in a way protecting myself. I don't integrate downhill trails into my rides and im not on the constant verge of testing limits and going over them, i just can't help it with a MTB. With the Gravel im more cautious as you feel the limit all the time. You don't have much buffer.
@liamkaloy
@liamkaloy 2 года назад
@@johnschmitt3083 yes, sure I know that in my experiment it is MTB with narrow tires and it still is a lot more off-road bike than gravel bike. For me just the fact of narrower tires and lack od suspension made it unusable. 100% gravel would be even worse. As for MTB being too easy - you can always ride faster, as you wrote - on the edge of you limits. I love speed - no surprise here - as most ppl who watch SAFA movies - and on MTB I can be fast off road and on road bike I can be fast on tarmac. Gravel is suboptimal for both. If just riding close to your limits is all you want to achieve then gravel can be fun, but for speed you need a tool dedicated for the task.
@johnschmitt3083
@johnschmitt3083 2 года назад
Did you ride a gravel bike by now? I know so many people that were instantly negative towards it, in an ideology kind of sense and now switched from their road bike, hardtails and fitness bikes and ride only their gravel bikes even when doing road bike tours with others. The gravel bike is the ideal bike for how and on what surface the avg biker is riding. And what the environment is offering them. Another big reason for the gravel bike is to get away from roads and with that higher chance of death and onto gravel roads. The only negative thing about Gravel Bikes is that even the most non aggressive position with a ratio of 1.57 could still cause pain for people after some hours because of how bodies deteriorated from too little movement and too much sitting.
@liamkaloy
@liamkaloy 2 года назад
@@johnschmitt3083 Yup, I tried 100% gravel bike but on tarmac only. I swap my road bike with my fiends gravel for some miles. Position was a bit more more relaxing (and probably would be substantially better after more accurate fit because we only changed saddle height), but this was the only advantage gravel had on the road over dedicated road bike. As for off road I rather do MTB single tracks, for example I would use roads like on this move only to get to interesting MTB single track. So I do either road or MTB. Fortunately where I live now I don't have to ride more than a mile to get to MTB tracks and there are also some asphalt roads with not that much car traffic. But if I had access only to gravel roads - which I define as a road where typical family car could drive at min ~20mph without problems - then who knows, maybe I would buy a gravel bike.

unnecessary reckless behavior, am all for having most fun on a bike but not in a way where you can endanger other people or cause them to literally run you over with their car because of your own stupidity and dangerous driving like in this video,just stupid.

Dont know what you guys are wanking on about there riding was fine sure they didnt stop at the stop sign so what and they did cross double lines ooh . If your seriously bagging them about the final decent on the road its obvious you have zero skill and awareness for how to ride fast smooth and not die from most car drivers .
