Looking back to 1989 and a busy day at March Station in Cambridgeshire with a variety of freight trains going to and from Whitemoor yard with class 31, 37, and 47's. originally shot on Video 8. I hope you enjoy watching.
Lovely video.. I joined the railways in October 1988 and I'm still there, I'm currently a resident signaller at March East (13yrs) so it's nice to see the trains from a different view and how it use to be. 👍pity we still didn't have the back lines ,would be handy for the whitemoor traffic.
Wow, 30 years ago, a real blast from the past! I used to film a lot at Peterborough in the 80's & 90's and remember the grain, car, chemical, and Speedlink workings very well.
I love these videos, a real and very interesting historical archive. It was a time when I travelled a lot for business and always stopped off in March when possible. I always found it fascinating observing the decay of a once busy rail centre (rather sad I thought as echoed on many of the comments on this channel). I haven't been that way for some time and imagine that there is very little variety these days (?).
As of 2023 we get the usual passenger stock, then its 99% class 66s unfortunately. No large operations now the yard is all ballast and things so its mostly a loco comes in with a rake, swaps that rake for new ones, and goes back out again usually same day. Our busiest days are the ECML diversions but even they are beginning to fade now.
shortly after they rip up the tracks on the platforms at the back although the platforms are still there the track is no longer there along with some other signal box's in 90s they build whitemoor prison on part of the marshing yard back then as a kid you could here the trains at night from my bedroom used to send me to sleep
