Very informative video. Was trying to decide whether or not to try those small Flame King canisters with my butane stove using just an adapter, but you are right that a regulator should be part of the system. I think I'll stick with butane for now. This is just too many parts to bring on a backpacking trip :) Thank you!!

Great video. Thanks for covering the butane box stove connector. More information is always better. Using windex to check for bubbles which indicate leaks is one method. Dish soap in water is another. Also there is a pink teflon tape used for natural gas. It is a bit thicker. That might be better for thread sealing and lubrication. Teflon tape helps the threads turn.

Thank you for watching. We are using the yellow LPG tape on the fixed components (the connectors attached to the regulator). Those connections are one time use. The threads deform on tightening and create a seal. The tape helps, but is not entirely necessary. We still use it. The examination for bubbles is very important. We will be creating a video on a gas detector very soon.

Thank you so much for watching the video. It is technically possible to run propane on a butane stove without any regulator. It is much better to use a high pressure regulator, and the system to simulate butane pressures. The experience is much better and it is safer to have the propane running at the lower pressure of 2 atm. Be sure to use a high pressure regulator, and not the common low pressure regulator.

I'm wondering if you have any working knowledge with coleman stoves? more specifically a coleman 2-burner camping stove like a coleman triton. My extended family uses a big 10lb propane tank and after watching this, I'm sure the tank pressure is too much for the stove because the flow knobs don't have very much arc between off and full blast. Can you say what the pressure ranges should be regulated down to or even recommend a specific regulator for this type of stove?

As long as your parents are using the regulator that came with the stove for a propane tank, they should be fine. Those Coleman stoves tend to have a very small amount of movement before the burner is on full blast. This is why we are using a grill boss portable stove. Those stoves have much better set up for simmering food.

The attachments cost more than the stove system. Not feasible, maybe buy a different stove that accommodate propane or small LPG tank.
