Transmission Range or Neutral Switch 

For component location you need Alldata or Mitchell-1. They're online and for a small fee you have access to the repair manual. You may also try Chilton. But the TRS is normally attached to the transmission, at the lever attachment from the cable coming from the shifter. Hope this helps.

Scan for codes with OBD-2 (cheap) scanner and post here. Can't help without codes. Transmission codes are part of OBD-2 diagnostics. We suggest the Scan-1 Diagnostic System.

The Transmission Range switch as in the video, is a variable resistor. Check voltage reference using a VOM and also the sensor's outputs. You also need a wiring diagram and an operations data. This is all available online and for about 20 bucks you can get it all at Alldata or Mitchell. The VOM can be purchased online sometimes for as little as $5... So as you can see it's all possible. Don't change the TRS because you could be wasting your money. It may be an electrical issue. Good luck.

@ADPTraining CONTINUED: Check for power and ground. All the RS does is complete a circuit, like any switch. Check for continuity with RS connector disconnected and using an inexpensive multimeter ($9.00). A multimeter is your best tool. Good luck.

2001 GMC Yukon XL...had been shifting funny for the last few days...one day would not start...the truck was put in neutral, rocked back and forth, put back in park and it started right up....now its not reading the [P] position...will roll when the gear is in park...clicking noises heard while it rolls....take a minute to get it to Park (none moving) its been suggested that it maybe the neutral safety switch....just looking for more input

So if I connect an arduino with this I can create on of the newer style shifters you push a button or turn a knob and the car would act the same?

Can a bad switch show the wrong gears? My GMC Envoy goes into drive when the indicator shows neutral & drive 1 shows as drive 2. R works with no issues. When in drive / N it won't take off I have to shift to D1 which shows as D2 & once in D/N it doesn't go into O/D & does not automatically shift.

My transmission will not shift to OD when outside temperature is 75 degrees or hotter.shifts fine when outside temp is in 70 or lower.

The 700 code is a general purpose code that's for naught. It won't do us much good. I have too little info to go on here. I need more data to help you out.

Jatco F1C1A has no range lights on dash, ie PRNDL do not light up at all in gauge cluster. Is there a fusible link somewhere North of the range switch and if so where is it? Right now the box has no drive or reverse but if I disconnect the solenoid harness I get both but the transmission acts as if it's stuck in high gear.

THere's an issue with the transmission range switch (P0705). This is the same as the old neutral switch, but not it's more like a potentiometer or variable resistor. You need to learn to check this component and see where the issue is coming from. I get a question, my mechanic told me I need to replace transmission multi function switch while the code is P0706 telling a transmission range sensor malfunctioning. Are they (MF switch and transmission range sensor) the same thing? I was quoted 729 for my 2002 VW Passat. No idea if that is too high or not

Hi. I have a 01M automatic transmission, it have installed F 125 multifunction neutral switch. This control PRND321 display on the board, when a put D it shaded but later it nor shaded. And gearbox becomes in Limp mode ó emergency. I think this switch it´s responsible. don´t you'? I ask you, how can i disarm this f125? I have no money Help me please

Christopher, I can tell you that it's probably not the Range-Switch. The trans going Neutral when hot points to a valve body, hydraulic pump or pressure control solenoid issue. Here's the thing, if you totally DISCONNECT the trans, it'll be in 2nd gear (limp-in mode). So, do that after you start experiencing the neutral issue. If back in 2nd gear, then issue's electronic. If not, it's mechanical (sol, pump, VB, etc). Good luck.

my Suzuki forenzi 2007 will make a loud noise and jumps to a different gear. so far it has went to drive or 3rd gear, I shut the car off for 2 minutes, start it up and it runs fine until it happens again, Any suggestions ?. Vern

First of all thanks for all the videos. I have a 2002 explorer with 5r55w Trans, im getting late shifting from 1st to 2nd with the P0775 code witch is the solenoid, I replaced it the entire block solenoid, I change the trans fluid and filter and I still have the shifting problems. Im thinking change the Digital Trans Range Sensor, because some times I cant start the car in parking just in Neutral, and I believe that sensor maybe is the problem of the shifting late too. The Digital Trans Range Sensor work with the solenoid or controls the oil pressure that can cause me this late shifting? Thanks a lot PD I don't think is the bands or servos, because the car was working fine before take it to a "junior" mechanic for do a trans remove to replace the front seal. I believe he remove the range sensor and get worst because the range sensor was lightly bad. Thanks

I have an 04 Toyota Tacoma automatic 4wd. The n/s switch is good, I tested it with a meter. There are no functional problems. It runs,drives,starts, brake lights, back up lights work. I do get p0705 and the check engine light is always on. I don’t know if it’s related, but I can’t get the cruise control to work either. What would you suggest? Do I need to check the wiring harness next? How do I proceed.

06 mercury mariner, P0707 code, starts and immediately begins cycling between park/neutral/drive, eventually stops and the screen stops selecting anything. At this point you can drive it, but have to help guide the shifting for each gear. Over 2,300 rpm and it starts going into neutral/1st/2nd. I've replaced neutral safety switch and replaced transmission fluid, it's made no change. What am I missing?
