I bought used 2017 Chevy Silverado 1500 with 46,000 miles about a year ago and immediately deleted the afm and installed the transmission cooler bypass as well as changed all fluids front to rear! Hopefully I'll get many a mile before any serious issues! My transmission temp is almost always at 145 after the fact and the highest I've ever seen since is 170 but goes back down after climbing a hill while towing

I had a video made when it was 17 below zero and my video got destroyed but yes it took less then 10 minutes to get the transmission up to 60 degrees with the delete installed I couldn't ask for it to work any better besides what people don't understand is from 2008 to 2013 this same transmission without a transmission thermostat had a lot less problems with the same torque converter

The transmission sends fluid first to the cooler in the radiator, so the coolant runs at 195 degree, the second cooler is not sufficient to help. On my truck I eliminated my lines to the radiator, I now use 2 external coolers with fan's, the sensor I use turns the fan's on at 180 off at 165, I also have it wired to my A/C. When my account clutch engages the fan's come on. 93 degrees day my 6L90 has never gone over 165 degrees

A complete bypass is a bad idea IMHO as the TBP bring the trans temp up quickly for better operation and regulates it at a lower temp ... Installing the GMC upgrade mod TBP will keep the temps at 150*s city to 160*s/70*s Hwy ...On hot summer days in stopped traffic its gone up to 180*s+ but comes right down when moving again ... Just remember that ATF best operating temp is 175* ... :) Reply

@fishman80
@fishman80 8 месяцев назад
so let me respond to the part about subzero weather in the video… I have this installed in my truck 2014.. no issues no complaints. It works fine. if it’s 30 or 40° out and I’m cruising on the highway I might hit 150 but usually in the 140s… OK probably fine with that.. as I go into Northern Maine, if it’s -10 or even zero outside my temperature runs about 100 to 115° degrees. The outside temperature seems to dictate a lot of how the surecool works in my truck. if I travel at lower speeds, it warms up a bit if I go faster it cools down. but outside Temperature plays a huge part. It’s a great product it does what it says for the most part. I’m just not sure if I like my transmission running at 100° when it’s subzero sometimes it doesn’t even hit 90 if it’s below zero. Unless somebody can tell me that it doesn’t matter.

Hey, I just installed this on my 2019 suburban. Had it installed for about 3 days now. The first day was great, temps dropped down to 150-160ish and about 140 on the freeway. @codemansauto208
@codemansauto208 4 месяца назад
Transmission failure starts to happen at around 240 degrees F so you have to realize that your cooler is running through your engine coolant which should be around 210 degrees so if your transmission doesnt go above the 210 for long periods of time then you should be just fine the thermostat that you deleted holds the transmission at 195 degrees and never allows it to cool down and that destroys your fluid

I just got it back noise is gone thats good news but the bad still overheating i have the same problem keeps going up to 214 hot and I’m not even pulling anything yet. and it will probably go higher but i don’t let it. This video while factually true is misleading. 1) The trans thermostat bypass valve (TBV) purpose is to reach optimum operating temperature quickly in all seasons, increasing load handling and fuel economy. 2) The stock GM TBV on the 6L80E used to open at 194°F(90°C) but they released a TSB. Talk to your dealership and they will replace it with a 154°F(70°C) one for free. 3) Closing the bypass doesn’t increase the efficiency of your trans cooler, meaning if you hit 220°F in town, you will still hit 220°F in town it just takes more time to get there. 4) The trans cooler doesn’t go through the radiator. If you look at your lines you will realize it has a separate cooler as part of the AC condenser in front of the radiator. 5) If you live in a cold climate, expect to lose slight MPG with the bypass delete mod because the trans will take a long time to reach operating temperature. 6) I installed the Shift Technology STL010 kit and drove up into the colorado mountains and it still hit 250°F before I let it cool off. Without it, it would have hit the same temperature only quicker. So, the point here is that sometimes you need a bigger cooler, and with a bigger cooler you probably want a thermostat! Because closing the bypass would make it even harder to reach operational temperature. 7) If you only do highway or short trips and don’t tow and don’t off-road then a closed bypass mod will give you lower temps because the rate of temperature rise is lower, and it removes the temperature floor of the system. Anyways, so that’s what I’m doing, ordered a bigger cooler, and will put the 70°F TBV back in. I’ll have a quick warm up and a much shallower angle of temperature rise vs load.
