RC Review have you addressed the interference with the front links? and if so what did you do to fix the issue? I’ve done these mods on my TRX4 and love the extra articulation but think it could be a little better if the front links weren’t bottoming out so soon! Love the channel and the detailed info!

I have mine set up with 10w oil, Traxxas soft springs (I think white rating) and the front drag links adjusted so they don't interfere as much with the axle housing while under full articulation and the bump stop spacers removed. The kit is a bit over priced but it makes a big difference for crawling when properly set up. Made mine long travel.

Ordered mine from my local shop today. $129 for colored kit, $119 for black. As I mention on another of your videos he also sells Sport RTR $299, Bronco $399, Blazer $429. No where online can come close to those prices.

I have a High trail and I’ve done very simple mods(adjusting rear shock mounts, softening springs) and it out crawls almost every stock height trx4 I have been around. If you use it to crawl and are are thinking it will have a negative impact, it only takes adjustment for it to work great!

If you install this kit and still want to crawl, I recommend some brass upgrades. Brass portal housings, diff covers, and maybe some steel drive shafts. You want to bring your center of gravity back down as much as you can. Everything else he said is good information.

Exactly. Offset that weight. Traxxas has a bunch of new long travel springs now. White and Yellow are the key ones for this vehicle. Want the softest ones for proper sag.

RC Review I’ve been looking at the trx4 and I really want one bad. If I have $500 I’d be buying it right now. I really want the ford bronco with a long arm kit. I’ve watched your other vid with the sport and it was super capable. I got a new video idea for you. I think we’d all like to see if there’s a way we can do it ourselves with out the expensive kit that we have to modify anyway. . . Can you scavenge for some more affordable parts and maybe make a detailed video of everything you do to make it work well. Love you vids, looking forward to more trx4 vids.

As for spacer removal, rear is fine front cut in half per side cos if one removes both front the axle will flex more on the passenger side and driver side hits the servo drop mount...

I never thought of the TRX-4 as a Mega Truck but when Harley Designs did that one it looked great. I remember when the TRX-4 first came out Traxxas called it a basher. I don't see it that way.

I just got my kit dropped off by UPS today. I chose the black, not because of price but my choice of color. I personally think it looks better. Not so flashy and eye catching. It is a Long Arm Lift Kit, not a long travel kit. I wanted it to enable use of bigger tires. Not the 2.2 but the 1.9 Super Swamper XL (4.75”)
@ztwntyn8
@ztwntyn8 4 года назад
I think I’ll stick to trying 2.2 with no lift then. I do t want to sacrifice any more high CG on this truck. My dad taught me (43 now :) that he saw lots of high lifted trucks do poor in mud and trails etc because one side would sink or the truck roll. Same with scalers. Dad had a 1977 Chevy Cheyenne 400 small block 35” mudders cut fenders no lift gear driven transfer case. Looking to do the same low stance big tire on his bronco my defender and son’s tactical Tex-4s
@FarmerFpv
@FarmerFpv Год назад
I didn't use the servo drop box. I get full compression with mine. You have to add a 3mm spacer between the servo horn and the link. It must be aluminum or steel. The geometry is just fine other than full droop but that doesn't affect it one bit when climbing or articulating over obstacles. With the servo drop box, it would not get full compressing as the Panhard kits the servo horn. Since you're running a droop setup you don't need the servo drop box. Mine crawls like a mountain goat with this kit and over-size 1.9 tires stretched over 2.2 raceline wheels.
@davetscantech
@davetscantech 2 года назад
I haven’t gotten my TRX-4 kit yet but I got the optional shock towers to remove the fenders so I can run a tucked rock crawler body, I figured could put bigger 2.2 tires without raising the truck. On my real world 4x4 trucks I have always put the biggest tires with minimal lift to keep it lower, 37” with a 2” level kit and fit no problem. A two beer project for a 6 hour project? I would be at 5-6 beers in by then.

Thank you for sharing this with us!!! I was thinking the kit was $190+ tax... I was thinking $80 was going to be pushing it for the cost factor! I suppose $175 painted & $150 black is still a little better than the $190!!! I see everything in the kit and it all looks pretty awesome! But I still have a hard time with the overall cost. So here's an idea for running a 2.2" tire on a 98% stock Bronco. #1 move the front and rear bumpers out one extra hole, so they don't rub on the factory $165 body. #2 pull off, or trim the stock running boards. #3 using a dremel, remove anywhere from 1/8" to 1/4" of lexan from that exotic body. #4 if necessary, add a little longer bottom shock eyelet. I'm pretty sure Traxxas makes something that will work. #5 install a 2.2" 5.90" tall monster set of tires and enjoy. I will let you know how it turns out...

When the lift came out, I wanted it, but then compared tire scale to the scale of the truck and found out it wouldn't work how I want it to. The scale of the 1.9 tires would be like running a 36 or 37" tire. What I did instead is buy some 105-110 Proline shocks. Kept the 105 rod end on and gave it as much droop as I could. I think it works perfectly, or at least perfect for me.

@jackk8422
@jackk8422 2 года назад
Stock canyon trails are 4.6 inches tall. Multiply that by the vehicle scale which is 1/10th equals 46 inch tires
@SebastianLong
@SebastianLong 2 года назад
@@jackk8422 That is why many people believe the TRX4 is a 1/8 scale because if you compare the overall height of the body of the Bronco to the overall height of the tire, it equates to a 36 3/4 inch tall tire. Check it out if you are ever near a full sized 79 Bronco.

Got one for $158.00 I about shit when I saw that travel didn’t increase. Not for my defender but for my son,’s tactical. He likes mud and it gets too close to the motor. We run pyrax 1.9 so we are on the right track. The bottle didn’t say what oil but I figured it was thick and the springs are def too stiff. I am relieved to watch this and see we can tune it in. Rewatched this after installing the lift kit on my Defender. Gonna grab me some of the softer springs. Although I did remove the shock spacers I went with some 2.2 Proline BFG Baja KR2 for my tires and some dual stage foams.
@thereasonableamericans411
@thereasonableamericans411 4 года назад
All they need to do is change the shock towers to be taller and put in longer shocks, leave most everything else alone. This would give us a little more flex without a higher center of gravity resting height. I suppose I can accomplish this on my own, if they just made the longer shocks that'd sure make it easy.

Excellent, honest (I wish honest were something we could take for granted, but sadly not) assessment. Good to know since a buddy of mine just bought this kit (to my complete surprise) and he sometimes leans on me for tricky installations. That aside. "15wt oil" caught my ear. There are only two people I know of who run oil that thin. You and me. Ha. Also, I go with the red plungers for faster damping response. FD I don't own a Traxxas truck; I run GTS shocks on my 10ii. Thanks for the video and the channel.

With mine i was able to buy just the links and servo drop box and it came to shy of 90 dollars i believe it was. Then i had 110mm superlifts from rc4wd so i could adjust dampening and their normal size 2.2 mudslingers are about the size of your slightly oversized 1.9 tires. Added some wheel weights and it crawls better than before the liftkit in my case

I have the clearance issues as well with the servo arm, the key is finding a servo that is close to the specs of the stock servo, which is hard. My promodler and reef servos are still to tall in that particular dimension. I did find a very skinny servo arm made by hudy that helped a lot. I ordered a 3brothers servo to try I think I can make it work based off the dimensions he emailed me. Or at least be a lot better off than now.
@RCReviewChannel
@RCReviewChannel 6 лет назад
Right. Key is a low profile servo and a TRX4 servo horn. We'll try to mount the servo as well to clear. The reason it's so low is to avoid bump steer. But that's not a big deal for crawling.

Also, what springs did you use? Everyone says to use the 90mm springs on the 120mm shocks but they are way too short. Maybe they stretch them out? What springs did you use?

I know I’m super late, but what weight oil did you use? I installed the lift and I’m trying to replicate your setups - remove spacers - white long travel springs - and the oil

That 12-13 mph speed is more for trail and light bashing. This vehicle has a big range since it has unlocking differentials that allow it to handle well at speed.

So from watching the channel and looking at all the TRX4 models , here’s what I’m going to try as regards suspension tuning , TRX4 Defender , yellow front springs , white rear springs , 20 weight shock oil for the rear shocks and 10 weight oil for the front shocks TRX4 Sport , yellow front springs , white rear springs , 10 weight front shock oil 20 weight rear shock oil Does this seem correct RC Review ? And would you advise getting yellow springs for the front and white for the rear with the lift kit to achieve more sag ?? Trying to get some feedback before purchasing the lift kit .... in red .... more money 🤦🏻‍♂️ Love the channel , would like to see more on the RC Review TRX 4 sport and what mods you’ve installed 💆🏻‍♂️
@RCReviewChannel
@RCReviewChannel 5 лет назад
Correct. For the lift kit, we are using the soft springs that came with the Redcat Gen8. They are long enough. And it looks like Traxxas just released a bunch of soft springs for the Long Travel Kit. www.amainhobbies.com/search?s=long+arm+lift+kit+springs

I landed a bronco with this kit. Threw in 50w oil to slow things down but im hating how this top heavy rig flops around. Is there a stiffer spring by chance?

If I had two trx4s I would do one with a lift kit and make it more of my mudder rig, I wouldn't do it in it it was my only rig I like the lower look I think it looks more scale.

Agree. The lift kit is more for big tires and bashing. We did figure out how to make the lift kit a long travel kit with a few mods. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IYYeajpCig4.html

Ugh, it’s so irritating that Traxass wants so much for their stuff. They could have cut the cost if they made 2 different wheelbase kits and eliminated some of the additional parts you don’t need. I just installed it w/2.2s myself. Black of course lol, offsets and all the brass I could get my hands on plus lower frame weights. With all that and the wheel offsets it absolutely crawls better than stock. I just need to go brushless. The Savox servo is definitely in the way but after dealing with all the clearance issues I’ll be more than happy. Someone in Traxass engineering needs to step it up though. As a lift kit from the Manufacturer themselves, it’s a massive fail. And come on man, Use a decent servo supplier!! Mine crapped out after 10 packs or so OF NORMAL DRIVING!!! So’d my XMaxx Forget warranty, I don’t want the junk electronics replaced with the same new junk either. Waste of time wrenchin’.

How did you resolve the issue with steering servo and front link interferences?
@OutlawFirebird1
@OutlawFirebird1 4 года назад
So how would you fix the servo clearance issue? I'm not sure how I should fix it. Tried putting the stick servo mount back in, but the steering arm will not reach, tried a longer arm, but that seems to put alot of pressure on the components, so it might snap something.

I’m typing this early you may cover it but I just did the long arm lift kit on my bronco and put the 2.2” wheels with super swamped on and am having steering clearance issues , the inside of the tire catch’s on the suspension links , any fix’s / or is it something I have to live with

Try looking up some hex extenders or on my old trx4 I had the MIP extended axles they are like 25$ and extend the wheels out about a 8th inch on each side, that would fix your problems for sure.

If I need to lift my trx4 slightly, can't I just put 5 or 10 mm longer shocks on it,? I assume unless I go crazy the geometry won't change much.

Quick question... I have just recently got the proline hyrax 4.75 for my Trx4 defender and they are hitting the body in the front when the suspension is fully pressed. Everything is stock, nothing changed and now when I check with the original wheels and tires even they are hitting the body. I did change the shock oil but that should not cause the tires to hit the body. Please help and let me know where I’m going wrong.

I don't have a good recommendation or part number yet. A lot of my Traxxas springs are for 90mm shocks. I used the stock springs from an HPI Venture since they are long and soft. They key is to use a spring that sags the truck through 30% of its travel when loaded. Then allow some adjustability firmer or softer from there.

Late to the game but got me a trx-4 sport and what can i say, it is really fun and challenging on a whole other level than to just go out and blast my 3s granite. Love the runtime i get on the stock brushed motor, way over an hour of constant driving with a 5500mah battery. I have been wondering how to get more articulation but as you explained it, it cannot be done without sacrificing center gravity, am i correct? Can you do this kit and add some brass gear to keep the cofg down low, or wont it help?
@RCReviewChannel
@RCReviewChannel 4 года назад
Correct. Center of gravity is compromised for sure. Even when the vehicle is lowered with soft springs, it tips over easy.
@danielnavarro8569
@danielnavarro8569 6 лет назад
Do you think using some weights in the wheels and axles would counter balance enough the higher center of gravity (maybe it will be similar to Stock?)
@RCReviewChannel
@RCReviewChannel 6 лет назад
Yes, most definitely doable. We've seen it happen to our Defender. It's got so much weights down low now that it will outperform most vehicles as it's hard to tip over now.
