Traxxas TRX4 Long Arm Lift Kit on the TRX-4 Bronco! We slap bigger wheels and 2.2 Boom Racing Hustlers underneath and then we put the big, heavy crawler through its paces.
So, is this a decent upgrade? Is the TRX4 better on the rocks with the long arm lift kit and 2.2s than it was with the 1.9 Canyon Trails? Let's find out!

Another really cool video..that thing looks crazy big with the lift kit..looks like it's ready for deep mud and river crossing. I just noticed that you've got a right hand drive interior installed..that's really cool and scale looking..Can't believe how easy it did all 6 problems with the right lines and careful driving can't wait to see more of the Bronco!

I wanted to put a high lift in my bronco or blazer but didn't want the high center of gravity. Then came the K10. Bought it and love it. Totally different drive then the other two. I recommend if at all possible get both rigs. You won't be able to wipe the grin from your face. RCTNT 💯👍

My Bronco drove and rode like a lumber wagon until I put the light or white springs on the long arm shocks. It doesn't sit as high but it flexes and articulates like you wouldn't believe. Give it a go and see what you think. Cheap upgrade. I did go with 45wt oil in the shocks
@RCTNT
@RCTNT 2 года назад
Nice job, that sounds like a really effective mod. With that in mind, I'm considering even just running a droop setup to compare performance with stock springs. Your performance would sit somewhere between the two, possibly, or else it might be the best of all three. Dunno yet. One way to find out! Keep experimenting! Thanks for sharing :)

I know I'm super late to the game, but with the white Traxxas springs on a *stock* body it worked great with 1.9" tires. When i added a roof rack with heavy items, the rear tire carrier, and lights, it was too much for the white springs and I went back to the stock long arm springs. Still on 1.9s, with brass carries and portals it's super fun to crawl with.

Holy Crap that thing is too damn high! Looks just like my Bronco on 40s did before we took it back to sanity on 36s. Does the cab need its own oxygen supply and do they need to file a flight plan anytime they go out crawling? All kidding aside, thanks for showing this. I was wondering what the long arm kit would really do in the real world, and you have answered the question. That's a lot of dosh for the kit, and in my case I don't think it would be the right path to take for what I want to do, but... for those looking for that extra clearance, I think you've proven this is the answer. It looks great, the parts seem to be top notch, and it seems to just work, exactly like it's supposed to. I'm curious to know how it performs on the stock tires and wheels with that kit. I suspect that's what a lot of people would do with it if they got it (I would), so knowing what that does might be important.

I would put the longer rod ends as it keeps it from flipping back on the steep climb. The wheelbase still looks stock as the lift sucks in the tires toward the center. I used the white softer springs and 15wt shock oil with the stock servo mount. You have to put the original front shorter upper link back on so it doesn't bind or bump steer. I also removed the plastic shock limiters. Its now almost a belly dragged with 2.2 tires. Crawls like a mountain goat on crack. lol Excellent crawling cause you have. Also great driving skills.

Hey, thanks for the vid! Looking into lifted trx4s cause I'm thinking about getting the high trail. What are you thoughts about widening the wheel base on a lifted rig for helping side tipping?
@RCTNT
@RCTNT 6 месяцев назад
I often don't like a widened track on crawlers because it increases the likelihood of diffs being hung up on rocks. That said, with 2.2s under portals and the long arm lift kit, there may not actually be a better vehicle configuration than this for widening the track a bit! I think you should go for it, maybe even up to like 8 or 10mm on each side. It'll increase stability and if you're cool with how it looks, I think you'll be happy with how it drives.

Anti foams next? And maybe a setting to pull chassis down on the fly when lower C of G needed.
@RCTNT
@RCTNT 2 года назад
such a simple concept but not that easy to pull off! You can experiment with a droop setup (I may make a video on that), or with cable-articulated damping, but if you raise the truck, the best antidote to the center of gravity issue is practice. You need to take different lines with the higher vehicle, but with practice, driver skill will trump most technology-based upgrades in a comparison. Antifoams: I must get around to finishing the ones I designed a couple of years back. Been meaning to do it, especially now folks are talking about the 3Bros ones. Watch this space!

Lift kit and bigger wheels will be more versatile than the Traxx, but the Traxx will be best for sand and snow - but not much else! Personally, it'd be lift kit and bigger tires all the way. I just put the lift on mine w/ 1.9" Pro-Line Interco Boggers. Also have some extra unsprung weight. I used the recommended spring settings on the shocks, but the body roll is best way too much, too easy. Even rubs the body (K5 Blazer) really bad. Did you tighten your springs more than what it suggests in the manual for the lift?
@RCTNT
@RCTNT 11 месяцев назад
I did add some pre-load to the springs, in the rear in particular. That will help lift the body up a bit. Also, the Boggers are 5.4" from memory. The 2.2 Canyon Trails are 5.3", which is similar - but they don't have the same epic lugs the Boggers have. I think you've got the right idea: add some pre-load and test, then repeat until you're happy. Hopefully that works for you!

Ah, that might explain your clearance issue. You can fit more shallow offset hubs or wheels, depending on what you're running. But it's all gotta fit together, doesn't it! Hope you get it worked out!
@Andy_Yates

Of course I was thinking the Bronco would topple over on most of these but it really stuck well! The weight down low seemed to balance out some of the height and heft of the big body. I'm in the position now of wondering if I want to try the optional more overdrive in the front. For the crawler nerds in us, it might be cool to have a video on more front weight vs more overdrive vs different tires / traction. I watched your Gladiator video about adding front to help with its length and balance. Do you think the optional overdrive in the Sendero HD would adversely affect the trail-ability? Still being new to this I don't know when drivetrain strain starts to hurt the motor or parts. I should probably just keep practicing before changing more things 😇😂
@RCTNT
@RCTNT 2 года назад
Hi Andy, thanks for the thoughtful comment. Overdrive does add a little strain to the drivetrain on the trails (and on the rocks, to be clear - moreso, even), but the vehicles are light enough that things will skid and move rather than anything breaking except in extreme traction (which will be on the rock rather than on the trail, if it happens). I can give you my 2c right now on weight vs overdrive vs tires: better rubber every time, first. Then, overdrive if you're doing tight stuff or a little extra weight for steep ascents. Generally speaking, overdrive is helpful in many problems, as is weight. I'd do tires then o/d then weight, though o/d is often impractical unless there's a transmission or diff gear option for the vehicle. Do o/d if you can, but tires are the big one. And driver skill trumps all of them, so get out there :D

@@RCTNT That's awesome, I really appreciate your advice and time. I bought some good size rocks at the gravel yard when I was buying some actual gravel. When I'm done spreading the gravel I can place the bigger rocks and it'll be protected from the rain 🙌. The big rocks in my yard now are covered in wet moss thanks to the Pacific Northwest here in Washington state. In the meantime, the new rocks are living in the garage and I can practice in the cold haha. I'll try the stock Grabbers and see if they do any better on these dusty rocks. @RCTNT
@RCTNT 2 месяца назад
It doesn't matter a great deal for crawling, honestly. You're not usually trying to dampen repetitive movements that are typical of a car at speed - that's when shock oil really matters a lot more, to ensure traction on rough surfaces. For crawlers, having some oil is better than no oil, but anything from 15 to 50 will do. I use 30 usually.
