I like how Hasbro went the extra mile with Cyclonus when I came to Minicon compatibly. Like they didn’t need to have crumplezone turn into a cockpit but it adds so much extra value to the toy. For a recommendation, i person recommend giving Armada Demolisher a try. He’s a fun little boy just like his pal Cyclonus.
@@GR-ic7mt I never had Demolisher, when I was collecting Armada around 19+ years ago, fun times. Until recently I had ordered him through eBay, with 3 additional minions. I believe the extra minicons that I ordered for him, are called the land military team.
The green repaint of Cyclonus that I found in my local department store as a kid was one of those toys I BEGGED my parents for with the lie of “I promise i won’t ask for anything else” Sometimes I wonder what my life would be if I actually kept that promise 😂
To me this will always be my Cyclonus. People usually have the G1/IDW, probably IDW or the RID 2015 as their Cyclonus but not me. I just think the name works for a crazy Decepticon that turns into a helicopter. His constant cackling is also what sells the character and that he sort of serves as a comic relief, too.
Bet you’d have fun with the Minicon Street Team, wouldn’t you? Funny little minicon combiner, bet you’d love that you sicko. Would love to hear your take on Side Swipe and Nightbeat though, given how controversial he is
I still laugh at the thought of mini-cons. Like, the big bots are in the heat of battle and to gain a bit of an extra edge, they decide to deploy their mini-con to pop out some hidden weapon... except, it never happens. One is screaming in his radio to find out where his little buddy is at and the scene cuts to the mini-con standing at a Starbucks getting a latte. "Boss, I'm getting your damn coffee like you said... no, you didn't tell me to wait until later!" All the while laser/gun shots can be heard taking out everyone because one mini-con didn't help out.
I've got the Energon repaint of Cyclonus (the arctic camo version with an orange face) which I had since my 11th birthday. The rotor gimmick is completely shot nowadays, but still a fun transformation.
If you're looking for a cool Armada figure that nobody talks about, check out Blurr. He's got a really slick look in spite of his big backpack, and he's kind of special in that his Mini-Con partner functions almost like a proto-cyber key instead of the standard "plop it on top and watch it go" style.
It would've been pretty funny if you used Cybertron Crumplezone in this video, but talked about him like he's still a Minicon that can attach to Cyclonus.
Ah Cyclonus is so good, he's such a pillar of Minicon integration, I really want to start collecting his recolours because I love him that much now. If you do legitimately want recs, go for his fellow goon Demolishor. He's got such a great look to him and has some fun Minicon integration even if its not to the same level as Cyclonus here. I'd love to see them redone today they're so good
Armada Cyclonus and Demolisher are toys I really want to see remade into legacy, heck even as a two pack. Their originals are really good and deserve modern updates. Also fun fact, the little tail fin section with the fins can come off like his rotor, and it’s kind of like he has a second little lazerbeak kind of lil minicon!
The minicon pal integrating into the vehicle mode by becoming a different style cockpit is inspired. About a thousand times better than all those "ah just sit the fucker on a plug on the back of the big guy and call it good" ones. Still doesn't make it a good toy, but that bit is at least cool.
Armada Cyclonus is absolutely one of my Top 10 bots of all time. He's the 'one that got away' from me as a kid and the one I was most happy to get recently and he didn't disappoint. I have so much love for him thanks to the Armada ps2 game and also the cartoon. I absolutely love the craic-head energy
I could sing ballads about Armada Jetfire and Overload on their own! No combination praise required! Glad you’re checking Armada out, it’s loads of goofy fun.
He looks like a brawler who's had his nose broken about a million times. The face sculpts in Armada were a high point in general, so many of them had tons of character.
Armada is my G1. I absolutely love this line, even with all its faults. Armada HotShot and Starscream would be some great toys to see you review. Thumbs up 👍
Crumplezone! I remember a kid at my school had Cyclonus and Crumplezone, and he snuck it in for me to play with, but I only played with Crumplezone, because he was small and had a gun!
I had his Energon repaint as a kid, and it was one of my favorites. I know people usually think of G1, but this is my Cyclonus. Wish this one got a little more love.
Wow. Armada Cyclonus is so much fun with other minicons- granted, specific minicons- I almost can't imagine wanting him updated... Though it makes me wonder what Cybertron Buzzsaw is like.
It's funny to see the wiki at play here cos while you can stick the blades on his arm, it's not something you were ever supposed to do, like he never does it in fiction and it's not in the instructions. Makes sense though eh. Whacking the destruction team mini-cons under his nose is great even if it feels like you're stripping five gears at once
You should check out sideways, he’s such a cool figure. His gimmick is really interesting and he’s good fun. I recommend seeing if you can find a Japanese copy (his name is Doubleface if you decide to go for that) he has a more show accurate deco that looks phenomenal. But either version is fun.
I’m really hoping we get more armada boys in legacy, I love the designs. I miss my childhood days where G1 Powermaster Optimus was my stand in for Cybertron Optimus and such. It was so much fun to goof around with gimmicks.
A really neat little Transformer. The Armada line pushed the gimmicks in tbr toys and sometimes, made impressive features. This one is no exception. Great review.
I do love the cockpit integration for his lil partner. The toy overall is clunky but they sure didn't skimp on the theme of minicon gimmicks. It's a choice I was neutral on at the time but have only grown to respect more and more. I back the recommendation for Demolishor. His minicon integreation is not as dramatic but his robot mode is a good touch more elegant than Cyclonus. If someone wanted to have a go at an Armada toy, I'd hand them Demolishor. He's just a little delight.
One of the mini con teams, which had a drill, sand shovel( which was confused with a buzz saw) and a form of two gun tank were made to use the cyclonus gimmick, but I could never get them to stay on once trigger was pulled. And Don't get me started on the Cybertron remould "buzz saw". Bought the Japanese exclusive repaint of micron crumple one for that, and because of remould would not fit in place.
I love love Love armada Cyclonus he's super definitely needing an new figure, best would be the exact same transformation jus with extra articulation. Demolishor too I love em
Do Armada Supercon/Deluxe Optimus, but since you already did Ultra Optimus, you can choose other flavors on the Deluxe version, such as Cybertron Optimus, Ultra Magnus and Nemesis Prime!
I never knew you could do that with the helicopter blade!! I thought you were joking!!! *it looks like you've reviewed all the great armada toys! except for the best of the best, HOT SHOT, sadly I don't have mine anymore or I'd donate haha The mini-con combiner teams were the special treasure I could never get my hands on... is there anything cooler than a robot skateboard?? or a sword made of airplanes?? Sideswipe was the only one I never wanted. even a kid can spot garbage
I use to have him but the spring inside of his end broke and it caused the mechanism to crack my toy up.... I miss it, so I hope there is an update coming soon. I still have the others though ^^
Demolisher is my personal favourite, so would like to see him get reviewed. Sideswipe is one of my least favourites so would be fun to see what you make of him.
the two you've just done recently are two of the first Transformers I got as an... "adult" is too strong a word, maybe... how about "person who drove themselves to the toy store to buy their own toys." Anyway, they really spoiled me for gimmicks and mini-con integration. I'd recommend any of the other Armadians I had, because I'm who matters here, but besides some mini-cons (loved the Street Action Team, what a fun combined mode) I think that's just Sideways, Optimus (the red-nosed recolor, but whatever) and Hot Shot his jammin' self. And you've already done at least two of those, haven't you?
...I have had the energon repaint of this guy since I was a child, and this is the first I've heard that you can take the rotor off. Like, I never even tried, or like played with it so hard that it fell off (phrasing, I know.) I think I'm having an existential crisis now.... oh, and by the way, did you know the little set of wings on the tail come off? Now that I did know. Not sure why, doesn't become much, I guess you can pretend it's a little Lazer beak or something. It always seemed like it should attatch somewhere else, but I dunno, never figured it out. Anyway, gonna go seek help now, see ya.
I actually own the Cybertron Buzzsaw which is a retool of this figure but less fun because he doesn’t have his mini con or the thing that activates the leg guns.
Starscream is fun. You'd probably get a kick out of demolishor Sideways is unique Wheeljack is bizarre Hotshot is infamous Scavenger is daft. Tbh, you'd probably get a kick out of most of the line.
ooh cyclonus :o I recently finished armada. I was expecting to hate it based off what I've read and heard, but I actually genuinely really enjoyed it! However Energon so far... yeah... (gav, if you wanna feel really decrepit my first transformers show was cybertron when i was at the young age of 4)
I want your honest opinion, is this guy worth getting? I loved his wacky personality from the cartoon but I was hesitant about the toy itself. Hold it, since when could the rotor blade be attached to his arm?! That reminds me of Blackout so much!
armada relly pointed to the decepticon toy to be better, at least on paper. sure, red allert is a whole gimmick playset, bu the decepticons are almost all at least very enjoyable, while the autobot got a couple of the worsr toy in the franchise, and smokescreen which is in quantum equilibrium for other armada toys, beside chunky boy tidalwave, starscream is loved enough he got a new toy, and beside that, demolishor andsideways are among the most loved, the latter people are trying to "12 monkeys" it into being the next one, as habro basically confirmed we did with tidal wave
I've never seen that before, either. I used to own the toy, and nothing I saw in the series or anything in the instructions or anything else of the like ever suggested it was possible
It seems like it is either an undocumented feature or a coincidental feature from the size of the attachment point. More than likely it was intentional though considering how surprisingly functional it is. The propeller isn't even the only thing like that on Cyclonus. The end section on the helicopter tail can also slide off and supposedly becomes an arm cannon, but it's not really clear how it's supposed to attach to the arm/hand properly if this was intentional. It is doable, but it definitely feels more unintentional compared to the blade.
@@Jetstorm0000 Welp i tryed it on mine, the blade comes off with no problem and im shocked i haven noticed this for so many years xd but the end of the tail seems pretty firm on there and i dont rly want to break my figure
LOVE when helicopter blades get a gimmick to rotate em, they get the gears in my head... _spinning_. too much of a stretch? is that one reaching? idk and idc
Ahhh it’s a helicopter pun. That’s why they used the name. They couldn’t have just, I don’t know, used the obviously superior helicopter pun of Spinister? Given some attention to a bit of a nobody character and made that gaudy colour scheme make more sense? Nah, while your at it, let’s name the Italian coloured sports car with a Mummy face Downshift because fuck it.
It is criminal He and Demolishor got Replaced by Ransack and Crumplezone, They were f***ing annoying, Demolishor and Cyclonus were more funny then them
