Love how he goes from this brick of a truck to a gangly mess of a robot. It's such a drastic change, which means it is possible for us in the audience to one day become bearable
Armada red alert is probably one of my fan favourite version of the character besides the g1 and the cybertron versions, and he's also one of the best unicron triolgy designs of all time,i do like this design even more with the 2007 movie toyline inferno repaint, and i'm really happy that armada red alert did appear in the idw last bot standing comic
What's funny is that the ''Red Alert!'' sound effect is still on the Energon Prowl redeco and the Movie Inferno redeco. Didn't bother to change the sound effect so both just roll in to battle while shouting Red Alert's name lol
Armada was when I really got into transformers so now as a decrepit adult I'm going back and buying the lads that I missed. There's a lot of surprises in this line considering how gimmick laden the toys are. Cyclonus and Demolishor for instance. Not only are they they two best decepticon goons ever conceived (scientifically proven) but they're incredibly posable as well. Cyclonus has an ab crunch AND a gear driven rotor for christsake.
I'm determined to get more into the Unicron Trilogy stuff. Those figures are all sorts of janky but you can't say they aren't fun. Grabbed Overload and Scavenger at TF Nation and they're good lads. These figures get what it is to be a toy.
This was one of my favorites. So the platforms on his legs do indeed work in vehicle mode. The instructions say to flip those down and you open the car door with the no hand arm straight out, and attach the repair tool to make it a repair arm for the corresponding leg flap.
now, i don't know how much people liked the moniker of the Titty Launcher back in the day, but far be it from me to argue with Hasbro on this one they knew what they were doing
Really hope we get a legacy version of all the armada figures. I used to have all the figure as a little kid. But none of them have survived the 2 decades since then. Its a darn shame.
Honestly one of my favourite Armada toys. He looks like a tool but he's such a blast to take down and play with every now and then. Great review as always, Gavin!
They repainted this figure into Prowl and sold it in a 2-pack with Starscream as a Sam's Club exclusive in 2004. I got that set for Christmas as my very first Transformers. I have a lot of vivid memories of transforming him and playing with all the gimmicks. I still have the figures to this day but I'm missing the minicons and Starscream's wings and missiles. This review really takes me back.
I’ve actually found myself returning to the unicorn trilogy toys as kind of a break from trying to find the stupidly hard to find studio series releases and ROTB toys as trying to find those in stores has worn me out. Feels nice to return to more simple and chunky toys that you can do fun things to. Like for example, if you get multiple armada demolisher toys, you can take them apart and rebuild one with dual missile launching shoulders instead of just the standard single launcher he has, and you can do that with every version of his mold so long as you have two or more demolishers of the same kind.
Great content as always TRDQ. I don’t remember seeing many of these Armada toys for sale in Aussie land, back in the day. Mainly, my Repugnus likes to see his brother doing well on RU-vid lol 😂🇦🇺
Its these wild Armada designs that really could do with a 3rd party, or even official remakes. There have been couple, but so far, the fun ones that were "burdened" by gimmicks have been missing: Red Alert, Hot Shot, the lot.
Really appreciate your gimmick rundowns on the toys what has got em. Genuinely did a double take on the claw-missile, I’d presumed it was just two regular missiles.
Yes, the robot mode may be wonktown, but the toy is worth it on the soundchip alone, it never fails to make me laugh listening to the voice actor do the siren sound.
Holy shit. I went my entire childhood not knowing there was a compartment where he had his alternative hands. I just went my whole life pretending it was a gun arm and that was that. My life really feeling like a lie rn
I have the orange redeco of this bad mamajama, and yeah - awful figure, amazing toy - easily one of my most played with transformers as a child, I even had my own simple base mode for him which was a delight. Definitely gonna be digging him out & keeping him close at hand
I have the 2007/2008 Inferno that is a recolor of this mold. I'm super picky about what figures I keep in my collection, and this one is definitely a keeper.
After getting the Siege Red Alert for £10, I've been on a Red Alert kick! The Kingdom one has made the Siege one irrelevant now, but big Red is just a joy. And this is a great version of Red. Such a chunky boi, different to every other version of the character
I had the Movieverse Inferno Repaint as a kid, and I remember playing more with Longarm than Red. I still used the “Red Alert!” Gimmick until it broke!
As a staunch Sunbowner, I'd be 100% down for a gimmick-free, proportionate update of this guy in Legacy, ala Armada Starscream/Nitro Convoy. But these gimmicks actually look pretty fun!
From what I had seen from Armada as an toyline, Red and Hoist (and MAYBE Demolishor) are hands dowm the best normal figures from the line (at least judging by modern standards).
My cousin had this guy, let me have a load of his second hand UT figures, but not Armada red alert, overload, prime, energon ironhide and jetfire, even Cybertron giant starscream, but this guy was a no, fascinating, huh?
Armada toys never did it for me, they looked like bootleg Playmobil trash and crippled by the gimmicks. I was a pretentious A-hole back then, like the G1 toys I grew up with looked much better to adult eyes! Armad-on robots, armad-on!
