Finding treatment for hip arthritis without surgery requires us to reframe how we look at our hip pain.
Chronic hip pain is more than just a hip joint problem. This means that surgery is not always the best treatment.
In this video, Maks explains 3 mistakes to avoid when seeking conservative treatments for hip arthritis.

*Study clarification - In the study I mention that only 15% of hips in hip pain had hip arthritis and 20% of arthritic hips had hip pain. But this was only the data for 946 hips. The study also analyzed another group of 4,366 hips which it reported separately. In that group, only 9% of hips in pain had arthritis and 23%of arthritic hips were frequently painful.

Yes, had 2 oesteopaths tell me I have arthritis. It depressed me so much, but I have decided not to believe this. I am strengthening and stretching and I am so much better....its taken 18months. I was a figure skater, so Im now undoing decades of external rotation of my free leg, with deep internal rotation practise. You are so right about the brain signaling pain.... Im trying to turn off the [ain loop. I love to see your videos. Thank you for such positive content in a sea of negativity x

I was diagnosed with severe hip arthritis...have seen pts...chiros...surgeons who all agreed I needed surgery...I also have a dislocated sacrum and pelvis...I pronate when I walk and limp...after sitting I use a cane to get going again...I'm sure I also have weak muscles....BUT I still am putting off replacement surgery because I don't believe arthritis is the true cause of my condition....I don't really have hip pain...front thigh becomes very stiff prohibiting me to walk....BUT removing a joint because of arthritis doesn't sit well with me. Any suggestions?

Hey! I recommended getting clear on what you're trying to improve. If pain is not the problem, then what is? Some of these things you mention - weakness, stiffness - are things that can be improved through exercise. Strength training CAN help with weakness while flexibility work CAN help with stiffness - if done right. Once you get clear on a goal, it becomes easier to find direction and get advice from various coaches. Good luck!

Hi! You never discuss meds - have you ever…even in the beginning of your initial diagnosis…taken any?

Hey Andrea! Not really. Maybe a bit of Advil before I played basketball but never was prescribed anything.

Hello Maks. A simple question. What led to your hip pain ?

Woah Jose, that's anything but simple, man! Pain is one of the most complex phenomenons that exist. One of my philosophies in my own journey and when I coach others is not to put too much mental energy on WHY we're in pain. This is out of our control as there are unlimited possible reasons. Instead, I like to focus on what CAN be controlled - like learning how to move better and responding to pain sensations in a kinder and more mindful way.
