I think it’s something a lot of grandfathers do. My father in his later years started carrying around a Swiss Army knife and would use it to open mail or slice an apple. I have the same feelings about Mehboob. Yet...that also makes me a touch sad. As a retired American litigator, Mehboob is THE MOST LIKE ME! Our personalities are similar in many ways. Like, I am puckish and quick to spin a joke like gold from thin air 🤣. The part that makes me sad is the fact that because I spent so many years in litigation, most of my friends are male. I am drawn to male friendships because of my personality traits. I am more similar in many respects to men that I am to women in the work that I do, the things that I enjoy, and the people I surround myself with. I am sad, and it may be a misperception, but I am sad that if I moved into Mehboob’s village that perhaps me and he could not be close friends. I do not believe, and again I might be wrong, but I do not believe that plutonic friendships across the sexes would be well received. The sadness that sprang from my heart was great when I considered that, since it means that my village friendships would be limited by 50% to only people within my own gender.

As an Australian, I'd just like to say thank you! This is the first and only reaction video to Vegemite I've ever seen (and there are a lot) where you were kind enough to the participants to tell them HOW to eat it. Most people just put enough to slightly colour the butter on their toast/bread. Almost no one eats it spread thickly or on a spoon, because that would be awful. Even sections of your toast where it clumps together can be terrible. Very, very light. Lots of butter, that's the way to eat it. Every other video I've seen people eat it wrongly, and hate it. Love the crew, they're wonderful people. Especially happy to see Ameeta back recently, it wasn't the same without her.

I’ve been to an African village and...found it hard to eat. (I grew up in Chicagoland.) The villagers also found it hard to eat my American snacks. My village friend’s neighbor (I met some young men who live in a teeny village in Ghana on FB. They invited me to visit and I stayed in their village for a week.)--invited me over for pork one night, and in order to show me how fresh the pork was, the pig’s head and butt were still on the table where we could see them while we were eating. Village life is not for everyone. Very few of my friends want to go back to my off-the-map village with me although I will go back over and over again! Most interestingly, one of my African friends, a young man is 30 years old, tried some of my snacks once and he spit them out as though poison was in his mouth. I’ve been trying to lose weight for years and I like diamond almonds. They have over-flavored almonds I think they’re called bold. I love them because they have a very little fat, a lot of protein, less calories than potato chips and more nutrition. When I’m eating them, I feel like I’m eating healthily! But as soon as my friend had it in his mouth, he spit them out on the ground! And this is a man who is so poor that he does not reject food easily! But as soon as he looked up, he told me, Nicki! That has too much salt in it! It is not for human consumption! I...was...amazed! I haven’t bought them again!!!! The lesson I learned through that incident is that the world’s villagers, people who are closer to nature than Western man is now, they have a lot that they can teach us. Especially about our diet!

To me, that was the most amazing part of this video! Not that people around the world agree to hate Vegemite and side-eye Australians for loving it, but the fact that they don’t have toasters in their village! Toasters are the most simple technology we are exposed to every day. Toasters have been around since the 1800s, right? Actually...I think colonial Americans used non-mechanical toasters over the hearth. I wonder if they know of those.
@chrvatz
@chrvatz 3 года назад
@@nicolechafetz3904 Toasters are more common in places where sliced bread is considered staple food. While the people of Balochistan may be familiar with bread (what they call 'double roti'), I doubt it is popular enough to warrant a special appliance just to toast it.

I think that quote should not have been highlighted because it was taken out of context. I think he was referring to the butter and bread without the Vegemite. Also it is clear from his response that he did not think Vegemite was “bland.” No one in their right mind calls Vegemite “bland.” And this man is very intelligent. Either: out of context, mistranslation, or simple error.

Its made of brewers yeast or شراب کی خمیر , boiled down to a paste with spices and LOTS of salt. You can use it in broths and meat dishes to boost the flavor. Its delicious once you get used to it. More butter, less Vegemite. I live where its made, and we don't put much on toast, just a tiny bit with lots of butter. But we also like to give it to guests from other countries just to watch their faces. 😁
