I love watching these videos! I spent a year in Afghanistan when I was in the US Army and I was so humbled by how warm and welcoming the people of Afghanistan were to me and the soldiers with me. Every time we went to different villages, we were greeted with tea and Parwarda. Even though our presence was not welcomed by all, we were still treated with respect and dignity and we tried to treat the people we met the same. Watching these videos brings back the good memories of my time in the villages around our base connecting as people and not as soldiers or enemies or anything else, just people. Thank you for making these and I look forward to watching more!

If you had space for the crocus (English name?) flowers in your garden, I guess you could grow your own saffron. I mean, the flowers grow even here in Norway, they’re of the first flowers that peek out of the ground after the snow has melted in the spring. So pretty! The saffron is these little strands in the middle of the top of the flower. May be finicky to harvest, but can’t be that bad... Oh well, I don’t know, just a thought... ☺️

@@lottatroublemaker6130 may want to look up how many saffron crocus flowers have to be harvested to make saffron as well as what saffron crocus is. there are several species of crocus flowers including some poisonous ones. the saffron crocus flower doesn't grow in the wild since it is a sterile mutant and has to be cultivated.

toomanyaccounts - Of course, one should always check it up before planting something for food. It seems like Saffron Crocus can be grown some places in the US, not in tropical climates though. From one site: «Where does saffron grow best? Planting Saffron Crocus Corms: In areas where Saffron Crocus are reliably hardy-USDA Zone 6 through 8 in the South, 6 through 9 in the West-you should plant the corms as soon as you receive them. Saffron Crocus do best in full sun and well-drained soil that is moderately rich in organic matter.» From another site: «That's why saffron can be cultivated in dry, moderate and continental climate types but not in tropical or polar climate types. Because the fact that the Crocus sativus is a heat-tolerant bulbous plant, dry and hot summers will be no problem at all.»

That story Shokoor told was reminescent of my own childhood in the US. My grandfather, who lived in the rural countryside, used to set telephone poles by hand and everyone tells me now that it's impossible! People are capable of amazing feats!

I love these so much because, in a world where we constantly dehumanize each other, even our own neighbors, for one reason or another...usually along political, religious, or ethnic lines, these videos force you to recognize the humanity of people who live vastly different lives. Everytime I watch Im just struck by the kindness and similarities. Im a bit of a cynic, especially as I get older, but I'll never abandon my humanity which seems so easy for so many people to do. They focus more on why we are different than why we are all the same, brothers and sisters in the human experience.

I love this video, the part at the end, telling us about their culture behind the tea and about the candies is such a wonderful addition :)

It is amazing to see how different cultures react, but also shows how different cultures use the same ingredients to make very different food to each other.
