Howdy!
I felt like this would be a rifle review that might interest a few of you long range shooters out there, especially those who are looking to get into the shooting games that stretch out past 1,000 yards.
This particular build came with a lot of thought and planning. Caliber selection was a tough one. There are several good 7mm, .308, and .338 caliber cartridges out there that perform great out to 2,000 yards and beyond, but we wanted to potential to push it a little further. After kicking around the idea of going to David Tubb's 33XC or even the 37XC, we opted to go for an "improved" version of the .338 Lapua Magnum. This version is my custom chamber reamer spec. and includes 40 degree "Ackley Improved" shoulders and a generous freebore for monolithic bullets and heavy 300 grain copper jacketed slugs. We will use standard Lapua manufactured brass to start and fireform the brass to match the new 40 degree chamber shoulders. This cartridge should get us to 2,500 yards without too much difficulty, and we benefit from great component selection and a substantial amount of reloading information already out there!

@@triggeredprecisionmachinellc - man, with the factory Hornady ammo it's shooting incredible! 1/4 moa or better. I haven't been able to create a hand load recipe that shoots as well.

Awesome rifle. I"m getting ready to upgrade my barrett 338 lapua with a custom, but many are concerned about traditional rem 700 lug size and barrel tenon as far as lug set-back and tenon swell. Are you? Thank you, appreciate all the info you put out.

Yeah, I prefer to use the beefier custom actions with the .750" / .725" bolt bodies and beefier lugs. Also, I use 1.250" shank barrels instead of 1.200" shank barrels for the extra strength.

I really want to see the results with monolithic bullets. I’ve been looking for a rifle like this that can shoot heavy monolithics in 338.

I'm zeroed in on the Warner Flatlines, they seem to offer the best weight / BC ratio. As soon as I get my ELR rifle built I am trying these. Very excited to see what a 285 Flatline going over 3,000 FPS wilkl do. 😁

For a build like this , what do you think of the mpa matrix pro ?

Love it, that's what I run on my PRS rifle. It would be a great choice.

Are u going with the berger 300gr? Also did yall consider the 33xc? Some advice use Lapua brass, everything else for the 338 is garbage.
@triggeredprecisionmachinellc

We have 300gr Bergers, 300gr SMK's, and 300 A-Tips to test out. I also want to get ahold of some Warner Flatline's to try. Funny you mention the 33XC, I just got a new 33XC and 37XC chamber reamer in today. We chose the Lapua improved just for the brass, it's hard to beat Lapua brass for anything! Do you have any experience with the XC?
@1clnsdime1
@1clnsdime1 8 месяцев назад
@triggeredprecisionmachinellc I personally shoot the Lapua, a couple of my shooting partners have a 33xc. It's a game changer. I'm at 2840, if I remember right they are 250 or 300fps faster then me, with both of us shooting the 300gr berger.

@triggeredprecisionmachinellc also interested in what luck u have with the a tip. I ran the Berger from day one, they shot great, and I never looked back. But I would love to hear your opinion on the a tip. I have had my lapua out to 2750 and it did very well.

I have one sitting right in from of me on my desk, it was actually on my 300 Norma Mag. Great brake but I think the big Salmon River Solutions 5-port brake cuts the recoil a little more maybe. Both are really great.
